Golf Story Switch NSP Free Download Unfitgirl Golf Story is a title that has been on my radar since it was released for the Nintendo Switch way back in 2017 (yes, I’m a tad bit late to the game). However, it wasn’t until I saw the game included among the many excellent sales on the eShop over the holidays that I finally decided to purchase it. While I have no special proclivity for the sport of golf, or golf games in general, I’m always down for a good RPG and have heard many positive things about Golf Story over the years. In fact, my real life experience of golf is limited to Putt-Putt, visiting a driving range once, and enjoying the movie Happy Gilmore as a child. Oh, and I was pretty obsessed with the golfing simulator featured on Wii Sports some years ago. Fortunately, I was informed by the Internet that even for someone who would never, ever dare watch golf on TV, or whose actual interests in the sport itself are as non-existent as mine, there is still much to enjoy in Golf Story. Hence, I bought it, and, after roughly the 20 hours or so that it took to complete, I am pleased to report that more or less everything I had previously heard about the game turned out to be true. The story in, well, Golf Story, is simple and straightforward. Its narrative is basically on par with the level of sophistication that you’d expect to find in your average mainline Pokemon games. Whereas in those kid-friendly titles you start by receiving a starter Pokemon and then set out on a journey across land and sea to achieve the status of region champion Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

Golf Story begins with a flashback of the nameless protagonist playing golf (what else?) with his father as a young lad. The purpose of the introductory cutscene is to reinforce the object that will become his passion later in life, and the aim of the journey that begins when you take control of him some twenty-years later: to be a golf pro and the tournament champion. Of course, along the way, you will need to convince a prospective coach to take you on, overcoming a number of obstacles and completing a series of wacky quests that are never predictable and only tangentially related to golf; these include cutting grass, assisting an archeologist dig up some ancient treasures (including antique golf equipment), solving a murder-mystery, fighting undead skeletons by hitting golf balls at them, and other ridiculous tasks that were always, at the very least, entertaining. Throughout your adventure you also play frisbee golf and control a flying drone(!). To summarise the narrative and dialogue that underlies it in Golf Story, it is unremarkable but serves its purpose well enough. Or, perhaps more charitably (and to use the cliche), it is simple but sweet. And while it is also like Pokemon in that the writing always felt somewhat shallow and unserious, Golf Story does stand out insofar as it has a lot a charm; to its credit, it is quite witty and more than once I found myself chuckling along at the dialogue if not the absurdity of the situations I found myself in.

IT’S NOT CAMELOT, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT!

All that being said, while Golf Story is a rather simplistic role-playing game (at least in its treatment of quests and stats, which progress via experience points gained from completing various tasks and which usually involve swinging a club), it remains at its core a fairly deep golf game. And on this front the developers totally nail it. Even for someone like myself who knows virtually nothing about golf outside of the limited exposure already mentioned, and despite the game’s dated, 16-bit graphics (a style which I still absolutely adore), the game does a fantastic job of steadily introducing new gameplay mechanics that allow for a surprisingly in-depth and thoughtful golfing experience. At every hole you are forced to consider the types of clubs you will use, the wind trajectory, the angle at which you will hit the ball, the amount of force you will use, accuracy, and so forth. This might all seem quite obvious for a golf game, but again, given the fact that I could have easily imagined playing this game twenty-five years ago on the Super Nintendo, I was impressed at just how fluid and natural it all felt. The golfing itself is actually very addicting and oftentimes I found myself compelled to get through some of the more mundane quests and text simply to get on with the next round of golf. To add to the enjoyment of the gameplay, the minimalistic soundtrack, consisting of simple beats, groovy bass lines, and occasional horns FINAL FANTASY IX 

Fits perfectly with the vibe of the game, whether on the golf course or fulfilling some quirky mission (like melting golfers who have been frozen in ice on a snowy course by using—wait for it— fiery golf balls. Yes, seriously.) This brings me to my biggest criticism of Golf Story. The story works for what it is but where the game really shines is when you’re playing nine holes. Unfortunately, whereas the game had the potential to offer great replay value, outside of the story mode the features that are available if you want to kick back and just straight up play golf are severely restrictive. Sure, there is a two-player mode so that you can play against a friend, but there is no online functionality and worse, no option to even play against the CPU. You’re basically confined to competing against yourself and your previous achievements—and while it tracks whether or not you’ve scored a birdie, eagle, or hole-in-one in previous playthroughs, it never records any additional stats. For me, the game would have taken a giant leap forward if it only offered more options than just a bare-bones quick-play mode. A season mode? A tournament? Something along these lines would have been extremely welcome and would have made it a game that I could easily have seen myself replaying for months and months. Golf Story is the latest indie darling to release on the Nintendo Switch, much to fans’ delight.

EARTH REBOUND

Interestingly enough, a lot of hype for the title originated just a month before the game’s release in the Nintendo Nindies Showcase in August. Essentially, Golf Story is a mix of RPG elements and golf and has been oft compared to games such as Mario Golf on the Gameboy Advance. While I personally never played that title, I was heavily interested by Golf Story due to both the RPG elements as well as the aesthetics. The game begins with a flashback to the player character’s childhood, where he recalls learning to golf with his father, also acting as a tutorial of sorts. Flash forward twenty years, and the player character looks to get back into golf, leaving his family to pursue his former pastime. From there, we are introduced to a variety of interesting, unique characters in a plethora of settings. While the game does focus on golf, many of the characters and side narratives paint an overall robust story. While the game can be cheesy or predictable at times, it honestly adds to the charming narrative. The game is divided into two primary portions, golfing and RPG. Before getting into the golfing portion of the game, it should be noted that Golf Story is more than just about golf despite it playing a major role. Rather, the game features a charming narrative that moves alongside the flow of the game. That is to say, Golf Story features eight unique areas with various side quests and challenges, not all of which relate to golf. FINAL FANTASY VIII – REMASTERED

Without spoiling too much, “combat” and “mystery” elements also come into play. The golfing element of Golf Story is robust, especially so for a top-down sports game. With most of my personal video game golf experience coming from two or three series, I can safely say that I was right at home with Golf Story’s “three-click” golfing mechanics. Though the game is top-down and looks “simple”, the golfing mechanics feature spin, power, and adjusting for wind speeds in addition to the slopes on the green. While playing rounds of golf is the major portion of the game, various activities also include disc golf, mini golf, and a variety of challenges such as alternate courses, driving ranges, and more. Completing challenges and rounds of golf give your player character experience points which lead to level ups. In doing so, the player can choose to upgrade their power, spin, control, and other aspects of their golf game. In addition to pure statistics, players will gain access to a variety of equipment that will allow them to tune their skill set to their environments. While the mechanical aspect of the game appears simple on the surface, Golf Story’s golfing system is intricate enough to make the game fun yet challenging at points. As the player progresses, various skills are perfected in increasingly challenging stages and hazards, but the game does a very good job in progressing its difficulty alongside the player.

DO YOU WANT TO DO PUTT-PUTT?

With some charming 16-bit graphics, Golf Story looks like a top-notch indie title. Perhaps the most impressive graphical feature of Golf Story is that the game avoids falling into the trap of having environments look very similar to each other. Rather, the game does an excellent job in distinguishing between the various unique areas both in color and design. While the game will not be winning any technical awards for their graphical prowess, the game looks awesome and is very pleasant on the eyes. Likewise, the game’s soundtrack is simply delightful, with upbeat cheerful tunes that match their designated environments. Despite a lack of any voice acting, I never felt like that was a feature that was missing, but rather one that was noticed. A lack of voice acting takes nothing away from the game, though the impressive soundtrack keeps the game light and entertaining. Lastly, Golf Story has plenty of minor nuances that make it what it is. Firstly, players can tee up anywhere, launching golf balls wherever they see fit in order to solve puzzles and potentially find new areas. In addition to that, players can also throw golf balls at various characters to elicit a response. For the collector in some of us, there are also hidden caches throughout the game, found by solving various riddles provided by various characters. On the other hand, I did encounter a couple issues with the game Fireworks Mania 

Golf Story kicks off with a heart-warming flashback you and your dad playing golf. In it, you’re taught the basics in front of a crowd of geese, and start to believe that some day you’re going to go to the big league. That doesn’t exactly happen as the game continues years later when you’re a somewhat unsuccessful adult, and eventually you decide to go back to your golfing roots. You have to find a coach, play through the various areas, and pick up new skills before competing professionally. Oh, and have a ton of fun on the way. The characters are what make the game more than just a cutesy golf simulator. They’re all rather daft, vary from location to location, and you can’t help but grow attached to them as the game goes on. Though the main concept is to play across nine holes in eight locations, there’s so much more to the game than that. Each world is riddled with side quests, and some of them help you learn weird and wonderful techniques, like bouncing your golf ball off a turtle’s back to launch it further. You earn money for completing quests, which you can spend on new equipment, and each task completed earns you various amounts of XP. Once your bar is full you level up and pick what stats you want to improve. The interesting thing here is that you have to balance out increasing the power of your swing with the other available features, like ‘spin’ and ‘accuracy’.

Any time you increase your power, the other stats will be affected as well, which is a really neat idea. Grab a couple of Joycons and you can take on a friend on courses that you’ve already unlocked. It lacks the features of the rest of the game, but that’s not really the point for this kind of quick-play PvP. Golf Story would be nothing if its primary mechanic was awful but luckily the golf itself is brilliant. It eases you in but doesn’t hold your hand, and all through the story you use the same three-click system. It manages to avoid tedium with its slow introduction of different skills and techniques, and by using environmental aspects like the slope of the green or the strength of the wind. You also have to watch out for marked areas that host molerats or cheekybeak birds. Those guys will steal your ball, so you have to plan your shot accordingly. Another excellent element is the integrated HD Rumble. Whether it’s responding to conversation, the swing of your club, or that lovely, little ‘plonk’ you get when your balls sinks into the hole, it’s one of the most interesting uses I’ve seen of the feature yet. If you ain’t got that swing I admit, it took me a while to get into Golf Story. I enjoy a game of mini golf I usually find the full thing a bit boring.
