Raptor Boyfriend A High School Romance Switch NSP Free Download Unfitgirl Do you ever wish to go back in time and relive your senior year of high school? Personally, I had an uneventful high school life, but Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance makes me nostalgic for a simpler time. In this dating sim visual novel, you play as Stella, a teenager about to embark on her last year of high school in a remote town. The year is 1997 and Stella and her dad have just moved to the quiet town of Ladle, Ontario after the passing of her grandma. She makes a goal to make her senior year the best year of high school. Determined to find new friends and a love interest, she meets three cryptids in Ladle High. Robert Raptorson, the skateboarding velociraptor, is the uber cool jock and school prankster. Taylor Tall-Toe, the brooding bigfoot, is a reclusive musician and Stella’s childhood camp friend. Day Lilly, a magical fairy, is a talented artist and honour student. I found Stella to be a likeable, relatable character. She suffers from social anxiety due to trouble making friends from the city she moved from. I think we all suffered from some form of social anxiety during our school days as it was a turbulent time. Stella’s plans never work out, but they always lead to hilarious and sometimes awkward moments with her crushes. Taylor the bigfoot was the first character I romanced. I was drawn to his brooding, yet warm, personality as it reminded me of myself when I was a teenager. He and Stella used to write to each other, and they both attended the same summer camp in Ladle. But he has become a troubled teen, and it was a bit of a mystery uncovering his secrets. It was rewarding to watch his character grow and open up as he got closer to Stella. In my second playthrough of the game, I romanced Robert.Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

The raptor has a dark past of his own, despite being so positive and hyped up all the time. His relationship with Jessica, a side character, plays a large role in the story. Robert is definitely a fun, outgoing character that reminds me of the jocks from my high school. I haven’t romanced Day yet, but I’m excited to see how her relationship with Stella will progress. The artistic fae is a brain who seems to have some trouble with her creepy ghost ex-girlfriend, Ingrid. I’m interested to see how the dynamics between Day, Stella, and Ingrid will play out through Day’s storyline. The art in Raptor Boyfriend is amazing; it is hand drawn in a comic style and is quite unique. The animations also flow seamlessly and there are no loading screens. In addition, having a 90’s style acoustic soundtrack adds to the mood and ambience of the game. If I could go back in time and relive my senior year like the way Stella did, I certainly would! Without a doubt, Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is one of the best visual novels I have played in a while. I practically played each storyline non-stop until the ending and wished for more. There is great diversity and queer representation. Even though the love interests are cryptids, their human personalities and backstories make this game an emotional rollercoaster. I hope to play more of Rocket Adrift’s games and will definitely support the Canadian indie company’s future endeavors. High school is, as an adult, a way to reminisce about the naivety of youth. What we could have done better, if not what we could have done at all. A needlessly nerve-wracking time of life that’s bound to be filled with awkward encounters, lost loves, and regrets.

Raptor Boyfriend A High School Romance Phone calls.

Even still, it’s a hotbed of emotional turbulence that will inevitably determine your future, for better or worse. Raptor Boyfriend allows one the chance to go back in time to 1997 and determine the life of Stella, an awkward teen who has just moved to a new, yet familiar town. There she will meet three distinct characters that are slightly off the beaten path. Intriguingly enough, the game title is slightly misleading—Raptor Boyfriend does indeed involve a potential raptor boyfriend, but that’s only one of three flavors. Also involving a fae and a bigfoot, the small town of Ladle has a supernatural touch. Yet all is not magic and whimsy; these teenagers have insecurities and traumas like any others, which become a prominent focus of the game. However, you will have to choose who among them will be your one and only. Such is the opportunity of youth. Being a visual novel/dating sim, the story is nearly the entire worth of the game. If this were to fail, there would be no reason to recommend it whatsoever. There’s a lot of pressure by the writer(s) of these games to develop an engaging narrative that suits the atmosphere or vibe they’re intending with their work. Consisting of a three-person team, developer Rocket Adrift has all three members listed as a writer for this game. The cooperation they denote may end up sharpening the efficiency of various tones throughout the game… or hampering them. In general, the characterization and progression of plot is fairly well done. Each potential love interest has a distinct persona to them, whether broody, nervous, or totally radical, bro. Though this is only surface-level flavor—getting to know these people ends up being rather rewarding.Army of Ruin

A relatable, if not slightly dramatic, conclusion of character complexity that is easy to sympathize/empathize with. Despite the outer surface of them being non-human, it’s integral to the story to treat them as anyone else, and they do so splendidly. More than anything, though, the real treasure of Raptor Boyfriend is the atmosphere of the world they create. Simplistic as it is, they absolutely embody the timeframe they set out to re-create. 1997; small town; cassette tapes and camps; groovy fashion sense; exaggerative hangout spots; artistic expression; so much detail in instilling a mood that embraces the scale of the setting and characters. It’s, in short, beautiful. I gradually came to welcome all new scenery, every fun reference to media at the time (Samurai Pizza Cats!), and the gentleness of the dialogue whenever it should come to it. “Immersive” is the biggest and truest statement about the game as a whole. If only it had the kind of time to truly develop all that it wishes to, or at least seems to scratch the surface of for extra emphasis. Much of this is shown through the side characters, which do not receive anywhere near the same development as the primary ones. Each love interest is tied to a certain side character, with their relationships kind of spotty. Robert (raptor)’s side character, Jessica, is the one I believe ends up the most memorable, while Ingrid and Brandon, tied to Day (fae) and Taylor (bigfoot) respectively, are fairly one-note. It ends up becoming a little less impactful when it’s seemingly wrapped up without a hitch by the end. This becomes especially apparent on repeat playthroughs. Each character has an arc that roughly follows the same path. Introductory giddiness, close encounters of the romantic kind, an unexpected conflict, a depressive spell, and the falling action revolving around their side characters.

Chill moments.

It ends up making these characters seem more like plot fodder than actual people that exist independently. There are also slight hints at the fear of being judged for their outsider status in bits of story near the end, though it’s never totally capitalized on. Part of this may be due to Raptor Boyfriend‘s overall length, which by visual novel standards is fairly short. Going through the game three times (while skipping quite a bit the second and third time), I have roughly six and a half hours playtime. The first took me just around three hours. That ends up not being too much time to dedicate to these characters in an overly detailed fashion; the developers likely had to work with what they had. Quality over quantity, I suppose. Such expansive gameplay functions visual novels provide! You can click to your heart’s content, save and load and skip whenever, or even make choices! Sarcasm aside, visual novels aren’t the most involved gameplay-wise. Regardless, Raptor Boyfriend does treat the player to a few distinct differences within the genre. Most notably, each “episode” of the story allows one the chance to get a keepsake from one of the romancible characters. Whether a poem, a cassette tape, or comic, they build up a personal story for each character that you can interact with once each episode. It better details the psyche of the character at the time and helps develop their inner insecurities. Receiving them requires you to memorize a specific thing they tell you on the phone (it’s bolded) and then interacting with them further down the road. Though this may depend on how committed you are to one person; occasionally I’d call someone and then not be able to interact with them in that specific episode. The Next Penelope Switch NSP

Then there’s the matter of choices. Not all will provide a substantial difference to the story, though some achievements seem to be locked behind specific paths. Some are there to serve as flavor for Stella’s character—nervous and fidgety, where words don’t matter. Others end up being the difference between who you pursue and whether it earns you items. Most often, though, it’s but a slight deviation from a mostly kinetic path. Not a terrible tragedy, though some may find the “actual” lack of choice somewhat disheartening. It would be for me if the writing wasn’t humorous and cute overall. Sorry, that image got away from us. But still, the point stands: this isn’t a game we’d proudly show to display our interests – it’s a visual novel where we get to woo not only a velociraptor, but a rad velociraptor from the ‘90s. His name is Brandon, and he likes to skateboard and prank people, like Denver the Last Dinosaur (deep cut, ‘90s kids). Not only that, but we can choose someone else as our partner, if we want. We can choose to flirt with a bigfoot, ghost or fairy instead.  It’s a lot to process. It’s only going to go one of two ways, right? It’s either going to be twee and quirky, or aimed squarely at fetishists who, well, like making eyes at dinosaurs. But, the thing is – and we’ve been doing a lot of this recently – we have judged this book by its cover. We failed to spot a third path. Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance approaches its high-school storytelling earnestly and innocently, as a rite-of-passage visual novel. Think Life is Strange, chopped up into a visual novel format and with the odd dinosaur, and you’re there.

Make out sessions.

It is neither twee nor weirdly sexualised.  Instead, this is the story of Stella, a girl (human, no scales) who has recently moved into the town where she used to go to holiday camp when she was younger. That detail’s important, as she has an old friend here: a camp friend who she stopped writing letters to, and is forced to confront. This is the bigfoot, Taylor, and he has been carrying a crush for Stella, which just adds to the awkwardness. But before you get to meet Taylor, you get pranked by the local jock and terrible lizard, Brandon, and cross paths with a bookish but antisocial fairy called Day. These four individuals form your love-quadrilateral, a group of soon-to-be-friends with an ample amount of sexual tension. You are the catalyst for them all coming together, and soon you are collaborating on coursework, traveling to ‘The Lake’ for drunken trysts, and getting high at house parties. This is very much a traditional American high-school upbringing, but with added ‘cryptids’. ‘Cryptids’ is the neat catch-all term that Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance gives its ‘unusual folk’. Ladle, the town where this all takes place, is a beacon for the outcasts of society, and that includes antlered people, ghosts, bigfeet and all sorts of others. It’s a reasonably well-handled metaphor for ‘otherness’, as Ladle is a place where an individuals uniqueness and queerness is hand-waved. If you are looking for stories where being different is celebrated, then Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is going to hit hard. The novel takes place over seven chapters (Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance tried to convince us that these span seven ‘weeks’, but the timeline doesn’t feel right).

Stella meets with the crew, builds camaraderie with them all, and ends the day back home, at a kind of hub where she can choose to make some small, defining choices. She can think about a particular person while sitting in a bay window (which helps the game to understand who you’re fancying right now), and then phone someone to trigger a conversation or a branching bit of gameplay. The scenario in each chapter is surprisingly cyclical: an idea is pitched, normally by the affable, extroverted Brandon, and the rest of the introverted group grumble about whether they can face doing it. Lake-side jaunts, group projects and house parties are all considered, reconsidered and then eventually agreed on. But during the event, someone, often Stella, will perform a socially awkward feat and the outing will collapse in on itself – the group returning to their individual homes. It’s our biggest gripe with Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance. The chapters feel too much like templates. You can fit the above formula to most, if not all, of the different chapters. We’d have loved for it to shake off the shackles, be ambitious and go for something more freeform. There’s one section when Stella and Day split off individually and make drunk prank calls, and it’s a huge amount of fun. We can’t help thinking that it worked so well because Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance had stepped off its own railtracks and tried something different. Our second biggest gripe is that it’s all a tad maudlin. Everyone is dealing with their own crap, which is completely understandable and acceptable. But absolutely everyone is dealing with their crap, all the time, and very visibly. Wounds are on display, and people keep poking at the wounds on other people.

Often, Stella can return home after a terrible night with the gang, and we wondered if these cryptids were actually healthy for each other. We’re still not completely sure. What we are sure of, however, is that more levity would have been a strong medicine. The game didn’t have to be so introspective and downbeat, certainly when it has humour in its locker. Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance can be a very funny game, when it lets itself be. Let’s go further than that: Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is an extremely well-written game all round, but it can drag and repeat, and with a better editor or an understanding of its issues, Rocket Adrift could be standing atop the virtual novel pile. Its peaks are that peaky. Even with the flaws, we reached the end of Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance with a deep affection for its shabby, lazy, endearing little characters. They are all easy to love, once you get to know them, and we felt Stella’s pain at the prospect of not seeing Brandon, Taylor or Day again. In a dating sim or coming-of-age story like this, you want every character to have something to hook onto, and Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance’s hooks are so sharp they could be raptor claws. Don’t be put off by the gimmicky and quirky naming: Raptor Boyfriend: A High School Romance is a heartfelt visual novel, beautifully executed and with a soundtrack that could have tumbled out of Chloe Price’s record collection. If you’re drawn into high-school coming-of-age stories, then this will be your latest pageturner. Just don’t focus too deeply on how the story repeats itself.Sifu Switch NSP
