Thea 2: The Shattering Free Download Gopcgames.com Thea 2: The Shattering is a hybrid of game genres. You could call it turn-based or survival. Maybe even RPG. It is tactical and it is rogue-like. Managing all these at once is a delicate dance. Even more, Thea 2 draws upon its predecessor by enlarging the scope of some aspects while adding further detail to others. On top of all this: Its narrative is inspired by the fantastic beasts a powerful deities of Slavic mythology. How cohesive is all of this and how confidently can the player learn the steps? To easiest understand all of these moving parts and how they all work together, it would do us well to break the game down into three functional layers. The Meta layer is on top, broadly defining the statistics of how the game rolls out. The Map Layer is the overworld of each campaign of Thea 2. The Logistics Layer is where the nitty gritty stuff happens. The map and logistics layer handily influence each other, while the meta layer keeps your grand decisions focused. Gopcgames.com

You can choose to play as one of several unique factions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

This is where the bulk of your time will be spent. These are the pages where you design items to be crafted, equip your expedition, manage resources, and assign members of your expedition to cook meals, perform rituals, gather resources and other tasks necessary for survival. The expedition members are the game’s lifeblood. Each member is assigned a class and has his or her or its own ratings in various stats. Strength, Intelligence, Mysticism – these are the primary stats to build a party around. Likewise, each member has his own productivity rating, influenced by these primary stats. Other stats include a character’s efficacy in card conflicts (more on this later). And when enough points have been accumulated, characters will level up, further honing their specialized strengths. God does not play dice with the universe, I once read on a Mini Milk stick, but Thea 2’s pantheon of Slavic-inspired deities seem well up for a game of cards. You don’t play as a mortal in this hybrid strategy role-playing game, but an all-powerful entity guiding the life of a hapless schmo in their quest from wanderer to chosen hero of a blossoming settlement. Thus began the chronicle of Cabbage Joe.

Exterminate your way to victory, battle through the vast array of creatures or simply strive to survive till sunrise.

Some say that on the night he was born, the wrinkled green full moon somewhat resembled a giant luminescent cabbage. Some say that he had some cabbages in his portrait and I’d already been thinking up character names for hours. Whatever the truth, he was the Bok Choy-sen one, Savoy-er of mankind. Like all heroes of renown, Cabbage Joe had an unbreakable bond with a magical spirit animal: a pet crow that increased his perception skill. A useful trait for, among other things, gathering vegetables. And so it was that Cabbage Joe and his Cabbage crow set off for adventure. He’s part of a group who’ll be walking around a hexagonal map and getting into card-based fights, while other characters take care of a home settlement. The opening menu allows you a bit of freedom over your starting party, and since Joe is more acquainted with vegetables than the ways of war, I thought it best to stick a warrior in the party to handle the swinging of sharp implements. An additional craftsman rounded out my starting trio. There’s a few more specialised classes you’ll encounter later, but these three roughly correspond to what you’ll spend most of your time doing. Picking up things, crafting things, and hitting things that try to stop you doing the first two in peace. Family, Friends and Strangers

Aside from the combat, this is all achieved through initially daunting but reasonably intuitive menus. Characters aren’t restricted to certain activities, but those with higher statistics or specialisations tend to get the job done a lot quicker. A warrior might take three turns to catch a fish, for example, while a dedicated gatherer equipped with the gathering tool you just made from some wolf bones might only take one. This is all done in service of surviving long enough to experience as many of Thea 2’s extremely entertaining random encounters as possible. Brendan mentioned a deluge of connect-the-dots fantasy faff in his Thea: The Awakening chronicles. There’s still a whiff of that stuff here, but it’s made palatable by a good helping of Witcher-esque self-awareness and fairytale subversion. The world is separated into islands. You’ll eventually need to craft a boat to visit later (more difficult) islands, but initially, you’ll be travelling on foot, via movement points, across a hexagonal grid. Both resources and story encounters are marked on the corresponding hexes, though many encounters are random.

Expand your influence in the world, build towns, widen your territories or choose the much tougher path of a nomad.

Also marked on the map are settlements, which can be either be hostile, neutral, or friendly, depending on your past actions. After you’ve used up all your movement points, you can break camp for the night, which accelerates healing, and allows you to gather resources. Once you’re all out of movement points and have set everyone to the gathering of shiny rocks, you hit ‘end turn’, and start again. To a newcomer, Thea 2: The Shattering is about as unfriendly and unwieldy as they come. Clearly optimised for PC and then ported to console as something of an afterthought, it’s an ugly compendium of interfaces with tiny text, awkward menu selections, and very little tutorialising of what each screen (of which there are many) does. For days, we plucked up the courage to break through its impenetrable armour but bounced off, making excuses and playing something else that was a bit more Xbox-centric. Eventually, a key presented itself – bizarrely, in the form of another game: Curious Expedition 2. Somewhat similar to Thea 2: The Shattering (and many times better, we should add), it is an exploration-oriented game that’s complicated on the face of it, but becomes apparent the more you play it. It tutorialises as it goes, and it made us wonder if Thea 2: The Shattering did the same. Fantasy Blacksmith Switch NSP

To a degree it did, and the similarity of the two games helped. If you’re in for playing Thea 2, we’d encourage you to persist through the tough times. Thea 2: The Shattering exists on multiple different levels. The first, and the one you will be grappling most often with, is the world map. A hex-based, board game viewpoint on top of a vast archipelago of land masses, it shows your team of adventurers as they use action points to make moves across a map. A fog-of-war encircles everything, so you’re making tentative steps to see what surprises await. Think of the opening moments of Civilization and you are halfway there. By taking these baby steps, you are uncovering events, resources, towns, combat and more. Your first objective (not that it’s clearly presented to you) is to settle. Once you’ve chosen somewhere suitable, the story of Thea starts to ramp up, largely as it brings factions out of the woodwork. How you deal with these factions is largely down to you, as you determine whether to swallow the ultimatums they toss on your lap. Align with a faction and it might put you in misalignment with another, so there’s some strategic thinking to be done.

Explore rich, procedurally generated and diverse new environments and biomes.

Which brings us to the second reason why it took us so long to write a review. Thea 2: The Shattering is designed to be played multiple times, with procedural maps spiralling off in new and wonderful directions. But these opening moments, as you’re exploring the archipelago, feel far too similar on each run. The first half-hour or so were the game’s worst, and – again – it led to us making excuses to play other games. Bad form for a reviewer, we know, but Thea 2 made it so easy to construct reasons. I’m a sucker for a good turn-based strategy game. I’ve spent countless hours over the past two decades on the Civilization series alone, all the way from Civ II to Civ VI. So when given the opportunity to play Thea 2: The Shattering, I jumped at the chance to explore something different in a genre I adore. Thea 2’s fantasy setting with a card battling system (which is all the rage right now) seemed like a match made in heaven, so why did it sink like a stone for me? Fap Nights at Frenni’s Night Club

Thea 2 is a turn-based strategy game that’s part city building, part exploration focused, and part card battler. At the start, similar to choosing a leader in Civilization, you select a deity from a list with varying perks/attributes to aid you based on your preferred playstyle. In addition, you choose a “chosen one” that acts as the leader of your troupe. These heroes are selected from a variety of classes such as blacksmith, miner, or even child prodigies. The overworld map is cut into hexagonal slices, and your scrappy band of heroes can move along on each turn provided you have movement spaces left. You can set up camp at any point on your turn, where options to forage for food, gather raw materials like wood or iron, and craft items become available. To do so, you have to assign party members to specific tasks, which over time will accumulate points until a full bar is filled. That triggers the receipt of materials. It works decently, but be mindful that if you don’t have the right pieces to craft something, it will let you set it up as a task and assign characters still.

It wasn’t long before Cabbage Joe and his retinue were attacked by some hungry wolves. Despite their obvious confusion at why they were defending a man whose only skill in life was acquiring large amounts of leafy veg, the party sprung to his aid. Such challenges in Thea 2 come in three flavours. You can hit things, you can hit things with your mind, and you can hit things with your soul. Each character has six different statistics, two of which correspond to each type of challenge. An attempt to slay an evil pine cone demon tests your physical skills, but you could alternatively try to convince the pine cone to abandon his life of crime and go find a nice Christmas tree to relax, which would test your sanity. Which makes sense because, mate, that’s a pine cone. Characters have separate health bars for each type of challenge, all of which are potentially fatal if they drop too low. This may sound needlessly complicated, but it usually comes down to checking what your party is best at, picking a colour, and playing a card game.
