I should’ve yawned five minutes ago, but soon I’m once more forcing my heart back down my throat for my next peek outside. This repeats for quite some minutes. If FNAF 4 needed a box blurb, it’d read something like “a rollercoaster of apprehension.” FNAF 4’s composition is another rivet in the series’ steel-clad design which immortalized its Let’s Play legacy in a few short months: five 8-minute nights of staying put in a room while fending off a quick death (and a nasty jumpscare) from creepy, walking animatronic animals using careful surveillance and snappily blocking access to whatever shuffles close. Loud screeches and terrifying robotic visages are common, so a strong resolve helps. Mostly. FNAF 4’s fundamentals stay firmly acquainted—a familiarly symmetrical room; the reprise of Bonnie, Chica, Freddy, and Foxy as primary antagonists; the usage of doors as a primary defensive mechanic—but its differences offer a refreshing new presentation of the risk-reward seesaw of its predecessors. Replacing the ever-troubled pizzeria from previous games is the nighttime bedroom of a kid who both substitutes for the hilariously underpaid security guard as the main character and clearly establishes his traumatic phobia of Freddy’s friends with a constant Binding-of-Isaac-esque flow of tears. In a flagrant flouting of the status quo, the camera system is removed entirely. Checking for an impending attack involves running up to a door, leaning out, and clicking on a flashlight (thankfully with unlimited battery power) or slamming the door shut at the precise moment I anticipate something lunging for me. As before, staying alive demands familiarization with each animatronic’s behavior. Where sight and constant camera tracking facilitated this in earlier games, FNAF 4 tosses that away for a different angle: sound. Audio cues—muffled footsteps, the metallic tinkling of shifting kitchen pans, a huff of breath from something Right Beside You—indicate when to use the flashlight or seal a doorway.

Boy meets demon

Being proactive is essential; a single mistake invariably delivers a booming fright. I liked that avoidance of randomness in failure, as my actions and choices solely contributed to whether or not I’d soon jump out of my chair. And that’s really what Cawthon is best at: ensuring crystallized snapshots of stomach-dropping terror. FNAF 4 uses the sensitivity of your senses to prod out a panicked yelp every time. Does it work? Absolutely. It’s absurdly rudimentary: straining to hear something barely above a whisper connects into a skull-shaking blast of sound and a horrible monster face stretched across the monitor. Of course it works. But it’s a bit worrisome to see an overall pivot away from what made the series so attractive in favor of a single, static mechanical loop across all five nights. The camera system, although imperfect—as later nights grew more difficult, staring too long at the video screen likely meant death—greatly defined the series’ identity. In FNAF 2, checking vents and winding the music box were integral counterparts to the cameras. FNAF 3 piled on the sinister inevitability of tracking a stalking killer. In many ways, the Five Nights games require a certain respect for their atmospheric lore, a twisted menagerie of cloudy dates, murder mysteries, and inter-relationships nearly as spaghettified as a Metal Gear Solid cutscene. Stepping into Freddy’s world, like flipping open a King novel or tuning into a Carpenter classic, is an investment in putting aside disbelief and reveling in the supernatural guesswork of the genre. That’s sadly tougher to pull off in Five Nights at Freddy’s 4; the humdrum repetition of the same sequence over and over—door, listen, flashlight, repeat—is too much of a chore to fully pull me in. It’s certainly the scariest of the four, but the subtle uneasiness and self-doubt so tellingly accomplished in its older brothers is diminished. As a series, Five Nights at Freddy’s has excelled at the jumpscare. As I sit here typing this out, I’m still recovering from one that happened about an hour ago. My heart rate is still elevated, and I still feel notably twitchy. But this time around, the scares are achieved in a slightly different manner to what fans are used to. The first three Freddy games lock you in a security room with camera feeds that need to be monitored. They’re a very visual experience; desperately scanning TV screens for sight of the homicidal muppets out to savage your face off. The fourth game switches things around by being a primarily audio experience: it’s all about listening for approaching enemies.

A different kind of horror

You play a child locked in their bedroom, desperately clutching a flashlight and listening out for things that go bump in the night. There are four places that need monitoring: the two exit doors to your room, the closet, and your bed. Clicking each one approaches them, and then you need to give a good listen. If you hear noises, its time to pull the door shut. If it sounds clear, you turn on the flashlight to check further down the corridor. The simple mechanic is used for the titular quintet of evenings; between midnight and 6am (which lasts around eight minutes) you need to constantly dive around the room warding off any invaders. But should you mess up – ignore a door for too long, or switch on your flashlight when enemies are close instead of shutting the door – a ravenous, toothy teddy will dive out and tear you apart. It’s game over, and time to start the night again. The mechanics work. The countdown timer dials the tension high, and as the final hours slowly tick by you feel genuinely distressed. Flashing the light down a corridor may reveal an enemy who was creeping towards you, and the brief glimpse of a pair of eyes or ears darting away is quite unsettling. The problem is you have to do this over and over again. For two or three hours, you’re checking the same three doors, reacting in the same manner. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Things slightly change as the nights progress – different enemies with different types of approach are introduced – but the key to fending off everyone is the same. And perhaps this would be fine if this were the first time we’d played this. But despite the mechanic changes, this is still exceptionally similar to the original Five Nights at Freddy’s concept. The change to a focus on audio is welcome, but it suffers from not being as accomplished as visual cues. While the game successfully builds atmosphere with the sounds of a house at night – clock chimes, cricket chirps, and rustling in the kitchen – it’s often difficult to figure out what the sounds you’re supposed to be listening out for are. The hints say to listen for breathing, but despite having the volume cranked up and a headset clamped to my ears, I never once heard breathing. Instead I just reacted to anything that sounded different to background audio, which seemed to work but meant I never felt in control. Lack of control was something I felt at all times through Five Nights at Freddy 4. There’s no real pattern to observe in the way the characters assualt your bedroom. You just have to pray you’ve heard correctly, and react appropriately. And when the audio felt confusing, being killed felt a little like being cheated. Which leads to frustration.

Closing the story?

Each night can be reduced by two hours by playing a minigame before hand where you wait in the dark for Bonnie the rabbit to approach you. If you can turn your flashlight on as Bonnie walks over an X on the ground, then you get the two hours shaved off. However, this only applies once. Failing the night means you’re back on a full six hours, and since you almost certainly will fail, it makes the processalmost entirely redundant. Between each night are Atari-like retro sequences that expand the story of Freddy. Considering the large amount of speculation on Reddit and in forums about the “Bite of ‘87” and various other elements of the story, this will no doubt be a large pull for a lot of players. But unless you’re really desperate for listening at doors for two hours, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 was released a few days earlier to select YouTubers, and I think that’s telling of the experience as a whole. I’ve watched a few people play the game, and found it more entertaining to observe than to actually play. It made me think that actually the best innovation for the series would be to include Twitch integration and allow spectators to interact and mould the experience for the player. The low price point means it’s not a massive gamble to buy into Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, but considering you’ve likely played the previous three games and have now spent around eight hours keeping homicidal animatronics at bay, there’s nothing about this fourth game that begs for you to return. Instead spend the cash on a bag of snacks and some drinks, and watch someone else shriek loudly into a microphone for you. Be careful, if you like being scared and you don’t care how, Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 is going to make you enjoy. In this installment the setting has been greatly improved, and although on a visual level it is still a fairly discreet game, the whole is quite unwelcoming. In addition, everything seems a little more random, and it is difficult to find out how our enemies operate , increasing the tension even more.  Finally, note that the chapters are separated by retro-style minigames that many will already know , which seem somewhat expendable, although, at least, they allow us to disconnect for a few seconds from the main adventure. This is much appreciated after several nights of gaming, even though the minigames aren’t particularly idle either. One of the aspects that has most caught the players of Five Nights at Freddy’s is its particular plot. Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 closes many of the questions that were in the air, although, at least for us, nothing has seemed particularly satisfactory.

Some of the biggest mysteries are only just about right, while others remain shrouded in an air of doubt. We do not know if with the additional content that is prepared for October 31 we will have more answers, but at the moment we do not have a feeling that the story is really closed . Of course, it is likely that we have missed things, since many times the plot is presented in such an intricate way that it takes a lot of dedication and third parties to discover everything and put the pieces together Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 has disappointed us . After three episodes that sought to curl the loop, the fourth has opted for a simpler mechanics in the playable – which is good – and another type of fear: the fear of going deaf. If before we had to watch if something moved, now we have to worry about whether something makes noise, and that something will scare us with full-power sounds. Yes, it is a technique as valid as any other, but making you strain your ears to fight back with a good handful of decibels seems like a pretty poor resource, and it will make you jump in both Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 and Barbie: Ride and play . In addition, it is not that we see a spectacular plot closure, probably because they are reserving something for the content that will arrive on Halloween. Perhaps if you have followed the saga so far you do not want to stop here, but for a possible future we believe that you have to be more demanding and not settle for the easy scare just because it works.

  1. Open the Start menu (Windows ‘flag’ button) in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  2. At the bottom of the Start menu, type Folder Options into the Search box, then press the Enter key.
  3. Click on the View tab at the top of the Folder Options window and check the option to Show hidden files and folders (in Windows 11, this option is called Show hidden files, folders, and drives).
  4. Click Apply then OK.
  5. Return to the Start menu and select Computer, then double click Local Disk (C:), and then open the Program Files folder. On some systems, this folder is called ‘Program Files(x86)’.
  6. In the Program Files folder, find and open the folder for your game.
  7. In the game’s folder, locate the executable (.exe) file for the game–this is a faded icon with the game’s title.
  8. Right-click on this file, select Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab at the top of the Properties window.
  9. Check the Run this program as an administrator box in the Privilege Level section. Click Apply then OK.

  1. First you will need YUZU Emulator. Download it from either Unfitgirl, .. Open it in WinRar, 7ZIP idk and then move the contents in a folder and open the yuzu.exe.
  2. There click Emulation -> Configure -> System -> Profile Then press on Add and make a new profile, then close yuzu
    Inside of yuzu click File -> Open yuzu folder. This will open the yuzu configuration folder inside of explorer.
  3. Create a folder called “keys” and copy the key you got from here and paste it in the folder.
  4. For settings open yuzu up Emulation -> Configure -> Graphics, Select OpenGL and set it to Vulkan or OpenGL. (Vulkan seems to be a bit bad atm) Then go to Controls and press Single Player and set it to custom
  5. Then Press Configure and set Player 1 to Pro Controller if you have a controller/keyboard and to Joycons if Joycons. Press Configure and press the exact buttons on your controller After you’re done press Okay and continue to the next step.
  6. Download any ROM you want from Unfitgirl, .. After you got your File (can be .xci or .nsp) create a folder somewhere on your PC and in that folder create another folder for your game.
  7. After that double-click into yuzu and select the folder you put your game folder in.
  8. Lastly double click on the game and enjoy it.
