Out of Space Free Download Unfitgirl Developed and Published by Behold Studios, Out of Space is a strategy game where you need to move into a new home – but in outer space. From the team that brought you Knights of Pen and Paper, Out of Space feels like The Sims merged with Overcooked. With bright colours and cute graphics, you have to put your planning skills to work if you’re going to move into your new house whilst dealing with these issues that can only happen in space. There is no story here, only an objective; you and up to 3 others locally have to move into your new house in space. That means you need to unpack, clean the house, sort out the power supply, maintain your hunger and keep yourself well-rested. What has that got to do with space? Well, let’s just say more often than not you have to evict some slimy alien critters from your new home. But these critters multiply fast and they like to leave their slime all over the place. The goal is to power each of the rooms by placing batteries in the power sockets. They are usually one per room and the game gives you your first battery. But this is just one of the many plates you have to keep spinning. To obtain other batteries you need to purchase them. You get money by recycling rubbish and disposing of aliens. Rubbish appears in small garbage bags as you sweep up the alien slime. You will also notice that some of the doors have been slimed and the only way to clean them is with a bucket of water. Once cleaned you then open the new room by pulling the lever to the door. Usually, each room has an alien (or multiple) as well as a lot of slime on the floor. You need to clean the room, set up the furniture, buy and place a battery into the socket and setup any appliances. Seems easy enough, but whilst you are doing this you have to keep on top of your tiredness and hunger. Sometimes the game will start you off with a way to obtain food. Usually a plant you need to water which provides a fruit to eat to stave off the hunger. But you need to keep it watered to make sure it keeps bearing fruit – so another plate to spin. Then the meanest of it all is the need to sleep, and from the multiple sessions I played you do not start in a room with something you can sleep on. You need to move quickly and find a room with a bed or a couch as a priority as if you don’t get to sleep in time your character will pass out. They take a long time to recover this way and in that time aliens have multiplied and slimed up the place. They can even remove the batteries in some rooms which you will need buckets of water to fix. If you do sort out a bed you can sleep and recover very quickly in comparison. So I mostly played this solo which really gave me that Sims feel, maintaining food and sleep whilst trying to achieve a particular goal. But it’s only when you realise you need to keep on top of everything do you get that real Overcooked feeling of constant pressure. Stepping on the slime hurts you as does coming in contact with the aliens. If you get hurt too much its game over.

So sweeping up slime and using the mop to stun the aliens is usually the toughest plate to keep spinning as it’s never-ending. Even after you sweep up the slime, stun the aliens and put them in the recycler, and use buckets of water to kill the alien eggs, after some time they will come back. You can try and gain an advantage with the money you gain from recycling garbage and aliens by buying other items. You can buy a sink to go in a certain room so you don’t have to keep backtracking to fill up your bucket. You can buy food so you can get a quick fix when you forgot to water the plant for food. Or you can buy another bucket and recycler to try and speed a few processes up. Playing it solo is tough as you have to be on top of all the jobs and if you’re standing still for a second then you’re letting the aliens win. But playing with others gives you a bit more balance as you can discuss tactics with each other on who should be doing what. The game as of yet doesn’t have online play and so it’s local only up to 4 people. You can choose from 5 different animal heads for your character and the difficulty comes in the form choosing the size of the ship, with the larger being harder. I’m a bit of a sucker for co-op games, especially when I know that at some point there will be a blazing row, and awkward silence. It’s like when you break out Monopoly at Christmas, already resigned to the fact that someone will throw their toys out of the pram, and one person will be heartless and take no prisoners. What I like about the couch co-op gaming genre is the requirement to sit around one TV a la 1990s student living. F1 2015

Out of Space has been available on Steam since February, and has received some fantastic reviews, and feedback from its community. The developers have built on this success by releasing a console version (24th November 2020) known as Out of Space: Couch Edition. Developed by Behold Studios and published by Plug In Digital this addictive and frustrating space simulation game will have you; laughing, crying, and screaming with rage. The Steam version is almost identical to the console offering, but with one major difference, and that is shown in its name “Couch Edition”. The console version is a solo, or up to 4 player local co-op game only! In the current climate this does impact the ability to play it to its full, but if you have a household of willing, and able volunteers, then you can all work together to achieve all the goals, and be a success in this housekeeping space simulation. The game premise is simple and brilliant. You control one creature whose goals are to; power each of the rooms on their floating space house, and to take care of their pet dog, who is loyal, and is extremely helpful throughout. This is until he wants food, or drinks all the water from your bucket. The ships come in set sizes; small, medium or large. Each has several rooms that must be cleaned, powered, and have its alien infestation removed in order to be successful. There is no time scale set for you to achieve your goals, but the longer you take, the more chance that the aliens will attempt to take control of your house. You must make a strong plan, follow it, and pray that luck is on your side.

As you progress through each game, you will be given unique tasks to complete, such as; cooking aliens, building furniture, completing games, and so forth. If you can finish the task, then you will unlock new furniture and characters to select from. The furniture that you unlock aids you during your playthrough. You may unlock electrical goods that earn you money, or help you work quicker. Furniture can reduce your fatigue and help you recover quicker. Decorative objects, add a positive effect, and can be easily overlooked, but they are the difference between a simple run, or constantly battling for success. The drip feed of additional items helped to keep the gameplay fresh and meant that I was constantly adjusting my strategy at the start of each game. Talking about starting a new game, you will load into a procedurally generated space house, so no game is ever the same. The opening two rooms follow the same pattern, but after that, you must think on your feet, and take a different approach each time. The larger the space house, the longer a game will take. You think you have got on top of it, and you only have one room left to go, but if you drop your guard for even one minute, the house of cards can come tumbling down, and all your hard work can be undone quickly. Like with the addition of new items, the developers were kind enough to add new aliens, these new beings make life much tougher. With hardened shells and spikes that stab at you as you try to move them, you must adjust your approach to each room as you discover which alien foe you must face. Mortal Kombat 11 Switch NSP

I loved the not knowing what would happen as you broke into each room, but it was also frustrating as hell when it all went wrong, and your hard work disappeared before your eyes. The aliens were persistent, adventurous, and destructive. They love to destroy your batteries, and can set you back to the dark ages quicker than a blink of the eye. Unlike other couch co-op games, such as; Overcooked, Moving Out, or Tools Up, Out of Space: Couch Edition doesn’t technically have any progression. Yes, you get your tasks to focus on for each game, but you don’t jump from level to level, increasing the difficulty and adding new mechanics. This different approach added a sense of repetitiveness, but I loved how each game differed from the last, and if you add in the unknown of how up to 4 of you will compete together, then it can be a recipe for disaster, or success. The action takes place from a fixed position, bird’s-eye perspective. You have a clear view of the layout of the ship, and its obvious which sections you have explored, and which ones you haven’t. The unexplored sections are shadowed in darkness and usually have bright purple/pink slime against the doors. The developers have not given the option to rotate the camera, and for me this was a mistake. Though you get used to the level layout as it is set, you find that you jump from game to game, and the ship will face in different directions. It was disorientating, and annoying that I had to adjust for the ship positioning, and it took a few moments to familiarise myself with how I’d approach the new look layout. The character designs, and the world that you live in, is a colourful and vivid place. Each of the aliens has a distinct look, and it was easy to identify each by their different colour and design.

The game can get hectic, but all your interactive objects are pinned to the screen, so if you drop one while completing a task, it is easy to find them amongst the chaos. Though I found parts of the visual presentation frustrating, mostly it was easy on the eye, and worked well. On the Series X it plays really smoothly, and I noticed no graphical glitches or problems. The premise of the game is you alone, or a bunch of friends in a co-op, are moving into a house in space. But before you can settle in the place needs a thoroughly good cleaning. You need to go from room to room clearing out the aliens and washing up any goo they leave behind. The main tools at your disposal are a bucket which you can fill with water and a mop. Additionally, you can use a variety of tools found randomly in rooms or you can purchase them from the shop. These include a pumpkin plant to keep your hunger meter at bay, furniture to rest on to keep your energy meter under control and various other tools to help in your quest for a clean ship. Some tools need to be hooked up to a battery to work others can just be placed where ever you can find space for them. A handy feature is that you can also dismantle these tools and resaemble them in other rooms to avoid backtracking or if it helps strategically. The level is complete when you place a battery in all of the power outlets.

This task is not as easy as it sounds as the messy alien menace on board is quite malicious. Rooms can become overrun with aliens and their messy goo very quickly. The aliens also vary. Some need to be hit with water from the bucket before being attacked with the mop. When they are stunned you can throw them in a handy recycler to gain extra cash. You can use this device to also throw away the rubbish bags created by cleaning up the rooms. There are other ways to dispose of enemies but I feel that is something best discovered for yourself. Out of Space has lots of creative solutions and no one game will ever play out the same. For example, when my wife and I played through we almost finished on a stage we only had one more room to power with a battery. Unfortunately, we neglected a room further back in the ship and before we knew it the place was overrun and all the hard work was undone. While certainly disappointing it is easily a treasured gaming memory we will share for years to come. Every level is randomly generated at the start. You get to pick a small ship but as you play and progress you unlock new characters, tools and bigger ships. It’s a shame there is no narrative to give context to the wacky world created here. After all, you play as a variety of animals in hoodies which just demands a back story. So I guess I have to settle with making one up myself. So here is: animals are fed up with the humans on planet earth and head to the stars to start a new life only to learn in space some things are just as messy as humans. The controls are fairly straightforward though the barrier to entry may be a little steep for some gamers.

Strangely, the tutorial only allows for one player to test out the controls.  On the Switch version, the button prompts used to perform certain actions are not made clear. But through a little trial and error, we were able to figure it out. It is not ideal but at least the controls can be viewed in the options menu. Sadly they can’t be re-mapped. Out of Space does come with a fairly large number of niggles worth bringing up. For instance, when items get cluttered in a room it’s hard to pick up the one you want. This can be especially stressful if aliens come and mess a room up. And when players are far away from each other the map will move out making it very hard to see where you are, this is incredibly difficult to view in handheld mode. The biggest issue is this game crashed a couple of times, usually when we were quite far into a level which was very unfortunate. Despite this, it didn’t stop us booting it back up to try our mission to clean once again. I guess that’s what saves Out of Space here. The concept is so entertaining and fun to play with others that we were able to press on despite these issues. I still would like to see this game patched though. Another plus of this genre is the whacky music, and over the top audio that usually accompanies the action. This game absolutely follows this trend. The music starts quite mellow and has an air of lift music/ hotel lobby. As you progress, the tunes become more upbeat, and ramp up the pressure on you. I could feel myself getting anxious as I anticipated victory, but knew there were still plenty of hurdles to overcome. To match this brilliant music, you have the noises that go with every action you complete.Lust Epidemic
