Monster Truck Championship PS5 Free Download Unfitgirl We’ve not seen many racers based around monster trucks. THQ Nordic recently released a new Monster Jam entry, but that’s more arcade racing than realistic simulator. Launched on PlayStation 4 last October, Nacon’s Monster Truck Championship offered us that alternative, and now it’s back with a next-gen edition. Despite minimal upgrades, there’s an enjoyable time within. Career mode is where you’ll spend most of your time, offering three leagues with multiple events, and you’ve got five event types. Race is your standard 8 player event, challenging AI racers. Time Trials bring your standard fastest lap around a circuit, with 25 to choose from. Drag Races are quick 1v1 races; Freestyle focuses on performing tricks like donuts and bicycling for points; Destruction involves tearing up obstacles around an arena. Completing these earns sponsorships and technicians, who improve performance and earnings. You begin with a basic truck, controlled through both joysticks for front and rear wheel steering. That feels loose but completing career events earns cash and points, unlocking cosmetics and vehicle parts, letting you improve top speed, steering, and more. As such, building up your vehicle is rewarding, despite initial frustrations. The game is only let down by multiplayer, providing 8-player online races with no local split screen. For PS5, Monster Truck Championship’s improvements are technical, offering a 4K resolution upgrade and 60 frames-per-second gameplay. Unfortunately, there’s no DualSense support and previous PS4 owners don’t have a free upgrade. When backwards compatibility exists, we can’t recommend double dipping, but new players will find much to enjoy. This is the definitive edition, and if you enjoy monster truck racing, then this naturally comes recommended.Monster Truck Championship wouldn’t be my go-to game when that racing itch burns. No, for me, Forza Horizon 4 and DIRT 5 are where I go to get my speedy thrills. But, Monster Truck Championship isn’t a bad addition to the library, and after an initial period of “what am I doing here then” I actually got really into it. And I mean, really into it. So into it, I pulled an accidental all-nighter while chasing new parts for my truck on massive wheels. Yeah, it’s good then, and if you’re not careful, you’ll lose yourself in its simple but engrossing loop. The premise of Monster Truck Championship is simple: you are a driver, you compete with your truck to earn money which is then used to compete in more championships. Rinse and repeat as required. There’s a little more to it, but just everything else in this world we call Earth, it all revolves around money. It costs to enter any given championship, so you’re investing in the hope that you’ll get your money back and then some extra. The higher you place, the more money is paid out to you, which you can use to buy new parts for your truck and hire new staff.

Performing tricks is still a nuisance.

However, you’re not allowed to go on a spending spree right away as the game locks staff upgrades and improved parts behind progression. The more you play, the more parts and people you can unlock. I suppose it makes sense otherwise I’d have bought up everything while still in the minor leagues.A final note on the financials; you can also sign up to sponsors, and they’ll help you earn more money. You’ll be given tasks to perform throughout a championship and some are relatively easy, like coming in first, and others are a little more complicated, like performing a certain number of a specific trick. The more you please your sponsor, the higher your potential earnings. But, remember, a lot of that money is going to be sat around doing nothing until you make some headway through the career mode. For the most part, you’re spending your cash on entrance fees and truck repairs between events. I like the career mode for what it was, even if it wasn’t especially deep. It encouraged me to tinker with my truck and to do more than just plough through the pack during races, thanks in part to the sponsorships dictating my racing style. The racing is good fun but there’s more than the standard racing available. Each championship is made up of several events, normally including a good mix of all available game modes. You’ve got races, drag races, destruction, and freestyle modes. My favourites were, of course, the races because they’re what I’m used to. It wasn’t easy to begin with, mind you, because Monster trucks do not handle like your typical racing car. They’re big, brash, and deceptively susceptible to spinning out of control. This is where flicking the right stick came in handy; the right stick controls the back wheels, and once my muscle memory made room for flicking the right stick left or right depending on the turn, I was breezing through races. Yeah, it’s a little easy, I suppose, but there is a harder setting if you want more of a challenge. Dynasty Warriors 9

Drag Races are not your traditional quarter-mile rev-fests, but instead short courses with a turn or two. They really should be renamed, then. I can’t say I enjoyed these head-to-head races all that much, if only because they were often done within just a few short seconds. My quickest was just nine seconds, and the longest that I can remember was around 20 seconds. For reference, the intro cinematic for the race lasts longer than this.Destruction and Freestyle are more along what I imagine Monster trucking all about – big tricks and smashing caravans, oh, and for whatever reason, porta-potties. Whether they are used or brand new is not known, but I’d hate to be the one cleaning the wheels once the crowds have gone home. These events are good fun where you’re given free-reign of an arena filled with stuff to smash, destroy, and lots of ramps to jump off, as well as some quarter-pipes to hit at speed, sending your truck into a backflip. It’s here where you’ll get to show off your mad skills, and I really enjoyed throwing my truck around and seeing what kind of damage I could cause. It’s silly stuff, sure, but there’s fun to be had and I got me some of it. So, what about the next-gen enhancements? To be fair, they’re decent, if a little underwhelming. The biggest improvements come in the form of resolution, frame rate, and load times. I had a go of the last-gen edition on PS4 so I could accurately compare, and the difference in how the game plays is stark – just don’t expect it to be a massive visual overhaul, because it’s not. It’s hitting a higher resolution to give the game some clarity; it’s upping the frame rate to make it smoother to play, and it’s reducing the load times so that you barely have to wait a couple of seconds between screens.

Drag Races

One disappointment is the glaring omission of DualSense support; the haptics are not used at all and the experience is no different to playing with a DualShock 4 controller. It’s a missed opportunity to tick a next-gen buzzword on the checklist – something you would think developers and publishers would be eager to put their name to. We took a look at the PS4 version of Monster Truck Championship back in October 2020 and Mike gave the game a solid 7 out of 10, praising its handling and variation while raising questions about how much actual content it delivered. Well, now there’s a PS5 update from Polish coders Teyon and Mike’s still not sourced a PS5, so it’s down to me to give the game a run out. As the no-frills title suggests, this is a game where you race monster trucks (a sport that is non-existent here in the UK but seemingly pretty popular in the States) but that’s only part of what it offers. The game’s career mode starts you off in the amateur league with a series of events ahead of you. Get through those and you’ll move up to the professional leagues, of which there are two to work through. Each event is comprised of two or more stages which will either be races, drag races, freestyle or destruction events. DYSMANTLE Switch NSP

The races are arguably the most tricky, especially early on when you’re less used to the handling of your truck and the bouncy physics that affect it. If you are looking for repair parts for your heavy vehicle, Affordable heavy truck parts are the best solutions for you. With the heavy vehicle parts and cheap truck brake system parts in stock, affordable will give you the best services at affordable pricing. Here you’ll race seven AI opponents on sandy and muddy tracks. Going full throttle here would be a mistake as it is very easy to spin out or hit obstacles. If you clip the side of a ramp you’ll likely end up rolling onto your roof and even the feintest contact with an opponent is enough to set you back a few places. More so than any other racing game, you need to be judicious with your use of acceleration. This can make these races fairly nerve wracking affairs but we did find that it was a lot easier to maintain a lead than it was to get in front. You start every race in last position and the big, clumsy trucks and often narrow tracks can make early progression quick tricky but the handling of the trucks is very nuanced and so we actually felt that technique and finesse were very important here which made the races ultimately very satisfying. We didn’t see any evidence of rubber banding and we did like the quick restarts (as well as the fact that you can restart any stage without ruining your event progression). Also fun are the drag races. These see two trucks going head to head on mirrored tracks. Getting a good start using your handbrake and accelerator are key and then you just need to get through these short races without messing up. We loved the fact that these races are always short affairs (around twenty seconds or so) and again the quick restarts make them quite enjoyable to play through.

DIFFERENT MONSTER TRUCKS

Then you get into your arena stages which comprise of either freestyle or destruction rounds. Both of these are very similar in that you are hitting ramps to do tricks and you can build a combo with either stunts or destruction (there are usually cars, caravans and other things to run over for extra points). These stages play out the same and use the same scoring system so the same techniques generally work. They are fun but we did find that it was difficult to make specific things happen, like getting into wheelies or pulling somersaults for example. This isn’t a skateboarding game where you can lean into things to get rotation, once you hit a ramp, there’s no way to modify or affect the trick that happens next. Which is absolutely fine, these are trucks after all, but it does mean that the tricking isn’t particularly sophisticated. If you hit some jumps and crash into some stuff, you’ll likely hit the number one spot pretty easily. That’s pretty much it for the events themselves but the game does also offer some upgrades and customisation too. Winning events does pay out and you’ll want to spend that cash. Unfortunately, all the upgrades are gated behind progression so even if there’s a $40,000 acceleration upgrade and you’ve got two hundred grand in the bank, you can’t buy it until the game says you can. But we did like the upgrades, the extra speed and (especially) traction do help and before long you’ll be racing more confidently and a bit less like Bambi on ice.

The customisations allow you to get new truck shapes, paint jobs, stickers and accessories which is okay although your viewpoint means you’ll rarely get to enjoy them. Also, you are just limited to their choice of decals rather than the game letting you design your own and truly customise your ride. Monster Truck Championship also gates some items behind sponsors. You get to choose your sponsor for the next event and they’ll pay out in items and cash if you can win events and complete various challenges with them. This works well but it can be annoying when your sponsor wants you to beat two races in your next event but then you don’t have enough races in it to actually complete the task. That happens quite often or they’ll ask you to complete a wheelie or something with no reliable way to make those happen. You also unlock staff that you can use to balance income against truck improvements. Some add torque, better handling and other technical upgrades while others will earn you more cash. You can hire up to five of these but those slots are unlocked slowly over time too. Now, that’s pretty much the same stuff we said during the PS4 review of this title so what does the PS5 upgrade actually give you? Well, not all that much unfortunately. The headline is that the game plays out in 4K at a buttery smooth 60FPS. We don’t normally care about such things but you could really feel the smoothness here. The game generally looks nice anyway with some good lighting and vivid colours, but the improved frame rate definitely raises the visuals to a new level. We were a little disappointed to spot some minor texture pop in but this is hard to spot during gameplay. DOOM Eternal Switch NSP

The game’s sound is actually pretty good too. Thankfully the game doesn’t drown us out with some sort of rock soundtrack during gameplay so it’s all just the roar of engines and thud of collisions. Played through a decent sound bar the collisions sound amazing, really deep and boomy. We liked that a lot. The game maybe could have used some commentary (we’ve just beaten Rock n’ Roll Racing again and so a lack of voice work was noticeable) to ramp up the action and add some personality to the game. If anything, that’s what the game lacks. For all the madness that the sport brings, there’s not much excitement in the presentation. The game instead feels more like a sim than an arcade title and that’s absolutely fine but a mixed approach could have worked but that’s just use being reviewers. While playing, we have a lot of fun with Monster Truck Championship. The only other niggle is that we have seen this all before in the Monster Jam series (albeit without those games’ more open world sections). In terms of the upgrade itself, we were disappointed to not get improved haptics. All you get here is standard rumble which is a shame as driving games really lend themselves to haptic feedback. Our biggest complaint about this generation so far is how under-utilised the DualSense is and Monster Truck Championship does nothing to improve that. But again, these are niggles and if you want some fun, varied, technical racing then this game really delivers but it is all too easy to spot where it under-delivers too. First of all, let’s state the obvious: content-wise, this is still the same Monster Truck Championship from 2020. This is still the same game that paled in comparison to its main THQ Nordic rival, with its unenthusiastic presentation and career mode. This hasn’t changed at all, so if you’re looking for a crazier monster truck game (and if you’re into this kind of sport, you most certainly are), Monster Jam Steel Titans is still the way to go. The main difference between this brand new build from last year’s version is its performance.

Note: This game will only run on consoles with the original firmware that are connected to the PSN online account and purchased the game from PSN.
