However, I think that what the developer is trying to do with this game sounds very interesting and as someone who loves history and playing games set during World War II, this is a game that truly did capture my attention and made me want to take a much closer look at it. You play the role of Piotr Kowalski, a soldier who participates in the fictional events of World War II. Although the story is based on real realities, the game reveals completely fancy threads. Feel inspired by the Call of Duty series, for example, but this position is … simply boring. Why? Feel free to review. The title itself raised a lot of doubts in me, but I like war atmosphere very much and I did not want to let go of the first or second attempt. I know that this title had a small budget, that for the first game of the studio, I should approach it with a bit more understanding. I’ve tried to do this, but there are a number of solutions to this title that I just don’t understand. It doesn’t mean, however, that everything is weak, absolutely. We’ll get to that in a moment. It’s a pity that the main character is an average Kowalski. The creators were strongly inspired by the achievements of Call of Duty creators, which can be seen practically at the start. We are greeted by a quite nicely realized menu, and then we have a read briefing on a large projector in the middle of an abandoned room. He can change the camera from three different places in the room or jump straight into combat. The beginning is quite calm, we are going as one of the many soldiers of the Polish Army through some wet village and the first thing that hits us is … a nightmare dubbing. It sounds like being done somewhere at home by the developers themselves, but those voices, intonation, lack of skill in expressing emotions are just terrible. It is very bad to listen to. I have no objections to the very selection of voices for the character, but in these statements we do not feel at all that we are somewhere on the front. A moment later we get the rifle in our hand. We start with a real earthquake. The attack on Mokra, where we are almost immediately knocked down by the explosion of a huge missile. We have to repel the attack of the Germans, hide in the trenches, then destroy the “oncoming” tanks, which really only stand still and shoot at us with … a rifle. We destroy them similarly, firing three times with heavy weapons, the strength and recoil of which did not match the seriousness of the situation.

The Start Of The War

The worst thing is that a moment later we sit at the controls of the anti-aircraft gun, and then we steer the armored train. The action develops very dynamically, but the way it is conducted often bore us. There is no coherent element here. Every now and then the commander yells at us, “Kowalski go here, Kowalski do that” and we feel like his messenger, not one of the many soldiers of the Polish army. You can see that the developers wanted to bring literally every war scenario into the game. The plot takes us to the dirty streets of encircled Warsaw or abandoned Modlin. According to the creators, the locations were very interesting because we visit forests, valleys and cities, but all this is so drab and not very attractive to the player. However, I must praise the studio for a very accurate reproduction of any military arsenal or uniforms. They have been refined with due care and you can see that a lot of work has been put into it. Some weapons have a rather poor recoil, sometimes we don’t even feel the power of the rifle, but this is actually the biggest advantage of Land of War. It happens that one shot is enough to knock down the enemy, and other times we aim at him several times and we cannot send him to the sand. Problems with collision detection are often visible here. And just “ticking off” checkpoints can be irritating – we run to the big gun to destroy the tank, and it … suddenly explodes. It is the same with the second. There are also some problems with collision detection, sometimes we get stuck on fences, tents or crates with weapons. I am glad, however, that the game strongly focuses on realism. There is no automatic overload, and life does not renew itself. We must remember this so as not to die too quickly. Because if it comes to that … a completely incomprehensible system of the arrangement of checkpoints enters the action. It’s not like we go back a minute or two when we go a long way. Absolutely. Sometimes we start the whole adventure all over again! Especially annoying are such situations at the start, while we are still learning the game. We cannot, for example, jump out of the trenches and attack the Germans at our discretion. The commander yells at us to hide or we are about to die. And in fact – we die immediately, which is associated with waiting for the level to be loaded again and starting everything from scratch. The thing that captured my attention with this game and what has gotten many people interested in Land of War – The Beginning. The idea of the game is really cool, the setting for this is the very start of World War II when Germany invaded Poland and the game has you playing as a Polish soldier, trying to do what they can to stop this immense invading force. Now, this is not going to be like a Hollywood movie like we get with games such as Call of Duty WWII.

Fighting For What Is Right

At the same time, I think having a more scaled-back kind of story is kind of cool and gives the game the feel of a Call of Duty game that would have come out during the PlayStation 2 era. The gameplay of Land of War – The Beginning is just so cool. They have tried to give this game a bit of an old-school soul and feel like those more classic Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games that we all enjoyed. As a result, things are much faster paced and there are a ton of enemies that are always coming towards you. It is the kind of first-person shooter that really will keep you on your toes. While the first-person shooting action is going to be a lot of fun and get you hyped up while you are playing. This game does also offer battles where you get to drive armored vehicles and even take to the sky for ariel battles too!
I know I keep talking about Call of Duty in this Land of War – The Beginning review, but it is impossible not to compare the two. The thing is, it is rather unfair to compare this game that is coming from a smaller studio to a game like Call of Duty WWII. Still, I think this game is very nice looking, but it is a tad on the basic side. One of the things that they have done to set this game apart from the competition is the setting of 1939. Apparently, no other game has been set during this point of the war and that is something I think is really cool. We only go here where the creators planned it. The gameplay is therefore very linear, but if done well, it is still half the trouble. Worse, however, that here most of the elements are quite average. You can see at every step that this production was made with a very poor budget. The characters have terrible facial expressions and weak, stiff animations. Our opponents in the reviewed Land of War are a clone army that behaves without any particular idea, moving and falling essentially the same way – no matter what the circumstances. The soldiers marching here and there in a platoon resemble a clone army. All this destroys our immersion and makes us a little bit tempted to explore this dirty and scary world. The graphics itself is not the ugliest, at maximum settings the game works well even on a gaming laptop, but there is nothing stunning here. The blasts are an ordinary, two-dimensional texture, the whole thing has such a greyish filter applied and as a result it does not knock you down. Unfortunately, there are many problems with the sound and the overall technical refinement of the production. It happened to me that the game came out to the desktop. Another time, the dialogues stopped playing. The camera, however, is shaking all the time with even a minimal explosion.

Looking Like A Classic

If someone shoots us, we immediately lose the target from the bow, because the character jumps away a bit. On the other hand, I would compare its movement to a floating ship. We do not keep our feet firmly on the ground, but we swim like on an endless ocean, gliding with a slight delay. Was it supposed to imitate the effect of heavy equipment and difficulty in navigating different terrains – I have no idea. In any case, it came out quite average. However, let’s not expect miracles, here you can see that military enthusiasts started to create the game and it was on this aspect that all forces were concentrated. Fans of such climates will surely be delighted, because some weapons are really fun to shoot and there are quite a lot of them. We get the legendary Vis pistol, the Browning machine gun or a prototype semi-automatic gun with a proudly sounding name  It is hard to expect from the debut game the quality presented, for example, by Medal of Honor. Land of War is more of a spiritual heir to Mortyr. A product that brothers often dominate the worst games on the market. It’s not that bad here. It is, in fact, a good foundation for future productions. If only the location of checkpoints, swimming characters, wooden animations, sloppy sounds and terrible dialogues weren’t so irritating, we could talk about a pretty good production. I can recommend the reviewed Land of War only to fans of war climates and military enthusiasts who would like to see rifles or weapons from that period more than the production itself. There are a lot of them here and they have been refined with great attention to detail. This is undoubtedly the greatest advantage of the production reviewed today.I keep my fingers crossed for MS Games, I hope that the next titles of the studio will have a bigger budget. Maybe a crowdfunding campaign should be put into action? Kickstarter seems like a pretty good idea. It will also be useful to invest in someone who knows the technical implementation of dubbing (because Jacek Rozenek is best here, but still completely not feeling or hearing that it is him) .
