The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf Free Download Unfitgirl As the main gamer in my family, I get asked by relatives and friends for recommendations on games for their kids. I’ve found that finding games for younger ones on consoles like PlayStation and Xbox can be a bit tricky when considering things like difficulty, suitability, variety and general appeal. The Smurfs wasn’t a franchise I grew up with until my sister was born and we watched the live-action 2011 film of the same name. The sweet, lovable blue creatures on adventures larger than life were fun to watch on the big screen, but how do they fare in the latest video game adaptation? The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf by Osome Studio and Microids is a vibrant 3D platformer for all ages, but underwhelming and overly ambitious gameplay mechanics prevent it from being something Smurftastic. The story begins with the villain Gargamel using an evil formula to produce a plant called the Viletrap. The plant contaminates and toxifies the Smurf Forest, and scatters its Viletrap seeds for Gargamel to capture innocent Smurfs. You play as four different Smurfs over the course of the game, with Papa Smurf sending you out to find ingredients to create an antidote to cure the effects of the Viletrap. You don’t go out empty-handed though, as you’re equipped with the Smurfizer, a tool used to spray the antidote over the contamination, as well as to propel you through the air and get to those hard-to-reach places The story is light-hearted and fun, and drops you into the big heart of these tiny Smurfs. Playing as the iconic Smurfs Hefty, Brainy, Chef and Smurfette, all they all have distinctive personalities that keeps the game feeling fresh and entertaining, enhanced by some corny but smurfin’ sweet dialogue. In saying that, some older players may get sick of the Smurf language…but maybe that’s just the grumpy Smurf in me talking. What surprised me about the game was that despite finishing the main story in around four to five hours, it left a lot of opportunities for replayability post-game. This game offers a lot more on than it lets on and can be particularly great for beginners/young achievement hunters who might have an itch to complete the game in its entirety, as once the campaign is completed there is still another few hours worth of gameplay to sink into. You can go back to explore every level and cure the rest of the contaminated plants as well as find collectables and materials to further upgrade the Smurfizer (more on this later). One aspect that stands out to me about Mission Vileaf is how accessible it is for gamers of all skill levels. There are three difficulty settings that can be changed at any point in time, and I personally believe it creates an inviting and welcoming gameplay experience for gamers of varying abilities. At the start, the game gradually introduces different moves and actions as to not overwhelm the player, but for fast learners and experienced gamers this can be quite a drag.

For example, at the beginning you are only limited to jumping while equipped with your Smurfizer. Later on in the game, more actions are unlocked, which I found a bit painful because there were so many types of hard-to-reach items early in the game, with no prompt as to what they were or hints on how to reach them until the game decides to tell you much later on. The combat in the game is really enjoyable and easy to pick up. Different enemies along the way have their own sets of moves which requires you to use the Smurfizer in a variety of ways to take them down. The introduction of each enemy type is done at a good pace but still provides a decent challenge towards the end of the game when there’s a combination of different types to fight through. Hiding around different parts of the Smurf Forest are materials that you can use to craft upgrades for your Smurfizer and increase stats like your health. The crafting aspect of the game and how detailed it was with the variety of materials you needed was not something I was expecting in this platformer, but my issue was how easily I was able to complete the game with only a handful of upgrades. I was hoping in the final chapter of the game might encourage me to go back and explore the forest more to come back stronger for the final battles, but I honestly didn’t need to. Iron Man 

It’s a shame because the crafting system had me excited to work up towards the endgame, but for me as a 20-something-year-old experienced gamer, the mechanic just didn’t live up to its potential that could’ve made the game so much more rewarding to finish. Younger players however might get a kick out of this crafting system if they haven’t experienced this in another game before. Mission Vileaf really brings the vibrant world of The Smurfs to life with its bright colour palette in the main forest area, and there’s a nice variety in level design as you progress in the game. The music is just as bouncy and joyous as you would expect it to be for a game like The Smurfs, which is fitting for its upbeat and optimistic characters. One thing the game does well for its younger audience is providing some visual and audio cues to help in potentially tricky parts of the game. For example, in one boss fight that had a big open area, a butterfly lying on a breakable object was an indicator of where my character needed to go next. Certain elements of the map may require you to use more power from your Smurfizer. Leafy bridges can grow and permanently extend to hard to reach places, which are signaled with cute, melodic audio cues. The game also features a multiplayer mode which can be activated at any time during the game.

The secondary player can control a tiny robot that throws exploding seeds at enemies as well as heals the Vileaf-contaminated areas around player one. While I didn’t get the chance to test this mode, this can be great for kids with younger siblings looking to get in on the fun as it seems to be more of a supporting role. Creating a unique platform game is tough, but this is made much harder when you must incorporate classic cartoon characters. The developers have done a great job of making a brilliantly cute world that traverses many locations. They have also drip-fed mechanics to expand each area and make out of reach places accessible. This was great if you adore gathering collectables and cleaning up loose ends. However, if you find this tedious, you may struggle when playing The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf. So, what the Smurf is it all about? Well, first you will hear the word “SMURF” a ridiculous amount. It’s to be expected, but I Smurfing hated the Smurfing word by the end of it! Anyway, now I have that out of my system, let’s get back to the story. The Smurf village is normally a peaceful and beautiful place. Its people live there in peace and harmony, and subsequently, its residents are content and happy. Unfortunately, the evil wizard Gargamel has other plans. He has created the despicable plant, the Vileaf! This devilishly evil creation attracts Smurfs and captures them while alerting him of their presence. ISEKAI QUEST

You must control four iconic Smurfs and use the Smurfizer to remove the plants and scupper the nasty wizard’s plans. New equipment and upgraded gear. Like all great platform-adventure titles, this one is full of collectables and new equipment to unlock. The Smurfizer is the key tool to new abilities and exploring the Smurf kingdom. It allows you to cure plants, hover, sprint, and more. With Handy Smurf’s help, you may upgrade it to increase its tank, power, and so forth. It was a wonderful way to make players revisit previous locations as you try to cleanse every plant and find every collectable. Moreover, I loved how the new tools and skills were added at a gradual pace. The inclusion of new mechanics never felt overwhelming, and revisiting old locations was exciting. Subsequently, the longevity of the gameplay was increased. It is true that the core concept was repetitive, and curing the plants was monotonous! However, each new ability reduced the tedium while grabbing your attention. Each stage is loaded with creatures that throw themselves at you or shoot projectiles. These Smurfingly annoying foes stand between you and your stage goal, and each level culminates in a battle with a “Viletrap”. These monstrous plants capture any Smurfs who step near them, and the only way to kill them is to cure every Vileheart.

You will leap, hover, and sprint your way to victory. Sadly, though, none of these encounters are challenging and you’ll go through the paces with little difficulty. I would have loved the developers to have made this much harder as victory was guaranteed. I know this is aimed at a younger audience, but the simplicity will turn off many older players. Fortunately, however, the challenge is found when you want to complete each area. Searching every nook and cranny, and using each tool and skill correctly, is the only way you’ll succeed. Subsequently, this takes patience, practice, and a very cool and levelled head. Needless to say, I failed this part of the game miserably. The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf is colourful and attractive, but its viewpoint is lacking. I’ve been a fan of The Smurfs for years. Recently, my kids have got into it and I’ve been able to relive the classic art style. I wouldn’t have been disappointed if the developers had kept this approach, but I love what has been presented. The vivid colours, cute characters, and sprawling stages catch your eye. Furthermore, the animations are good, the movement is smooth, and this makes it enjoyable to play. Sadly, though, there is one glaring oversight, and that’s the occasionally distracting viewpoint. The camera angles can make depth perception challenging to understand and this causes mistakes. The upbeat nature of the friendly characters and the chirpy atmosphere is brilliantly conveyed in the audio. The upbeat tunes reflect moments of success, whereas harder-hitting tunes highlight moments of danger. I adored how the music matched the action without overpowering each stage. This was continued with the amusing acting and familiar dialogue. Each character is captured perfectly and you’ll enjoy their unique personalities that shine through. If I were to change anything, it would be that the original actors were hired to voice each Smurf. This would have added to the authenticity, but I liked what was created, nonetheless. The art of a great platform game is to ensure the controls are spot on. Sadly, though, The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf is a little clumsy. The developers could have mapped input options much better to make them more accessible. An example is that jumping and hovering use the A button. At times, you’ll just want to jump, but you’ll hover unexpectedly and mess up completely. Moreover, the movement is hindered by the poor camera angle and lack of depth perception. Therefore, it can be challenging to move around, especially when hovering. Unfortunately, there is little the developers can do, and it’s a case of making the most of a bad situation. It’s not game-breaking, but it is annoying and definitely noticeable.

At a base level, this title is repetitive and will put off players. Yet, if you love finding collectables and tidying up loose ends, you’ll love it. The drip-fed mechanics keep you coming back for more and allow you to see old areas in a new light. Where the developers missed an opportunity was the introduction of each new Smurf. I would have liked unique characteristics or traits. However, they all move, jump, and act exactly the same. This was a shame and was surely an oversight. The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf captures the cartoon magic. It’s easy for developers to take a much-loved franchise and do little with it. To their credit, The Smurfs: Mission Vileaf captures the magic of the cartoon. The characters are great, the world is fantastic, and each level contains many secrets. However, its poor camera angles and repetitive gameplay stifle it and prevent it from being a phenomenal platform-adventure experience. It could have been better, but I still loved it and recommend you to buy it here! Will Gargamel finally succeed, or will the Smurfs dash his dastardly plan? To be sure, it’s a pretty standard collectathon 3D platformer. The Smurfs’ village is being threatened by Gargamel and the toxic plant he created – the titular “vileaf” – and to combat that, Smurfette, Hefty Smurf, Brainy Smurf and Chef Smurf take turns cleaning up the mess he created. Gameplay doesn’t differ all that much between the different smurfs, and for the most part you’re just going around cleaning plants, with the odd enemy thrown in here and there to mix things up.
