RESIDENT EVIL RESISTANCE Free Download Unfitgirl In the absence of a Resident Evil 3 New Game Plus, Capcom has instead bundled in a 4vs1 multiplayer mode called Resident Evil Resistance to bulk up the package. However, unlike the meaty, visually stunning single-player campaign that had me eager to return for seconds, Resistance is a briefly fun distraction that hasn’t left a mark on my memory. Resistance is a Dead by Daylight-esque asymmetrical multiplayer game that sees four non-descript survivors go up against one of Resident Evil’s canonical masterminds: Annette Birkin, Daniel Fabron, Alex Wesker, and Earl Spencer. As a survivor, the goal is to methodically scour the map for keys to unlock the exits of three areas before the timer ends; the Mastermind, meanwhile, gets to cackle delightfully over-the-top dialogue and throw zombies, heavies, explosives, traps, and all sorts of other obstacles at the survivors to stop them in their tracks. Still, a nice sense of flow can occur if you all work together to unlock the exit as fast as possible. The six survivor characters have various class-based skills that are fun to play around with: Tyronne the tank, for example, has a power kick that sends zombies flying, meanwhile, January the hacker can disable the Mastermind’s cameras, which will cripple him or her for vital seconds. A nice sense of flow can occur if you all work together. However, only one is really useful when it comes to scouting, which is the activity you spend so much of Resistance doing. A team without Valerie, the healer, is underpowered – she not only keeps the team alive but also has a Survival Instinct skill that highlights important items on the map. It’s a little awkward and limiting to have one of the six classes feel so mandatory – hopefully Resistance will either limit this ability to make it less crucial or add more support characters capable of filling this role in different ways to give team compositions a little more variety. Each survivor has a Fever Skill – essentially an Ultimate Ability – that can be unleashed after a certain amount of time. But again, these feel a little unbalanced. Valerie is crucial, as her First Aid Spray skill will heal nearby team members; however, Becca’s only gives her a short period of unlimited ammo. That feels less important considering the wealth of ammo scattered throughout the maps. Guns feel good to shoot but there’s odd visual feedback. In my experience, the most fun to be had in Resistance is as a Mastermind. You can bounce between security cameras scattered throughout Resistance’s scant four maps to keep an eye on the survivors, and you can use a combination of traps, creatures, and a bioweapon (unique to each Mastermind) to cause all sorts of chaos in a relatively short space of time. Do you actively get up in survivors’ faces with zombies and other nasties, or do you lay traps, lock doors, and cause havoc from afar?

Is Resistance futile?

My favorite method is to place leg traps at just the right spot and then spawn several zombie dogs at that same location. At its best, playing as a Mastermind makes me feel like a delightfully evil poltergeist. Playing as a bioweapon is clumsy but it gave me a rush of power every time. As the Mastermind you can also take direct control of certain zombies – which makes them more vulnerable to bullets but more dangerous to survivors – as well as your individual bioweapons. G-Birkin, Tyrant, Yateveo are the bioweapons currently available to play as in Resistance, though all but Birkin need to be unlocked. Playing as a bioweapon is clumsy – which makes a certain kind of sense considering how mutated it is – but it gave me a rush of power every time, as you’re instantly so much stronger than the survivors. A bioweapon, deployed at the right time and in the right place, can make or break a game – plus, there’s a very simple joy to be found in playing as such classic characters. The four maps that serve as your playground to tool around in are… fine. Although they’re built in the same RE Engine as the extremely gorgeous-looking single-player campaign and have theoretically interesting spaces, like a casino and an abandoned park, they don’t stand out in any particular way and tend to visually bleed into one another. I hope that as more maps are added there’s more visual diversity in the mix. I hope that as more maps are added there’s more visual diversity in the mix. Dead Cells

After you finish a match, you’ll be awarded points that can be cashed in to upgrade your character with items like a Bulletproof Vest that increases your maximum health or a survival vest that gives you a small amount of extra ammo. You can also unlock further abilities and fever skills down the line, as well as additional Masterminds, so there’s some incentive to progress. Unfortunately, the points you earn are specific to one character – it’s not shared between all of them – and you’ll barely earn any RP if you choose to play in a custom match. That means that not only are you penalized for trying different things, but also you earn most of your points through the more randomized Quick Play matches. There, it’s not guaranteed you can play as the character you want, so you can’t focus on that one even if you want to. Your best option is to play as a Survivor in Team Play with your friends, or choose to play only as a Mastermind, and that feels limiting. On the other side of the gameplay spectrum, we have the Survivors. You get to control a cast of six young adults, each with unique skills. Taking the place of the Mastermind’s Ultimate Skill is ‘Fever Skills,’ which acts as the Survivors’ ultimate abilities. Their functions range from team buffs to high damage-dealing moves. There are also ‘Personal Skills,’ which have a much shorter cool-down rate and similarly vary in their purposes between characters.

Unwieldy masterminds

Each character acts as a class of sorts; prioritizing damage, support, or tanking. As a result, it is good to fully utilize the usefulness of each character and contribute to the team accordingly. Upon entering an area, your group will be assigned a task that ranges from finding a few missing pieces to a puzzle to destroying ‘Bio Cores.’ Every session randomizes the location of such requirements, pushing you to scrutinize the surroundings. Upon successful retrieval of all missing items, you can gather with your team at the exit to head to the next area. There are three areas in total to complete. Cooperation is cardinal to success because the odds are in the Mastermind’s favor. Of the dozen sessions I played, the Mastermind always won. Never have I played a multiplayer game where teamwork matters. Resistance has the makings of becoming a powerhouse asymmetric multiplayer experience, adding in new experimental facilities, Mastermind, and Survivors in the future. Even with only two maps – Casino and Abandoned park – each match feels fresh. These locales not only provide vibrant and fun backdrops, but are superbly structured. Claustrophobic spacing of the interiors works wonders for tension-building. Mechanically, safe rooms serve as a useful place to shop for supplies. Maps are also a delightful playground for the Mastermind’s tools of destruction, allowing many ample opportunities to spook opposing players with an enemy waiting at the other side of the door. It all works to be a dynamic battlezone for survival-horror action and offers a special fast-paced experience when you want a break from the slower single-player game. A time limit tops off the intensity-level to the max. Each match starts with a countdown of five minutes. As Survivors, killing an enemy, completing objectives, and destroying traps adds extra time. Exiting the area all together rewards a combined bonus time total. For the Mastermind, killing players will cut their time considerably. Getting to the exit or stopping a Survivor from reaching their objective just in time is an undeniable adrenaline rush. You may ask: how does progression work? Well, each character has a rank that can be raised with XP, unlocking new Masterminds, skill modifiers, deck loadout slots, and more. There is also another type of reward: Result Points or RP; earned by performance, especially when fulfilling daily and weekly missions. These can be used to buy pieces of ‘Equipment,’ which act as passive enhancements for combat, survival, resource, and miscellaneous abilities. RP can also be spent on cosmetics. Both equipment and cosmetics are bought by opening chests that give random rewards. A booster for RP is available as an additional purchase. Even though this is a microtransaction it is entirely harmless. This game is, by far, not pay-to-win. The equipment only adds minor buffs, and boosters are not that bad in general.

Mastermind vs Survivors

Resident Evil Resistance is a surprisingly terrific topper to its base game package. It is one of the only multiplayer games where teamwork is genuinely essential. Not only that, but playing as the Mastermind is a truly unique and empowering experience. Accessible, layered, and blood-pumping, this is a marvelous multiplayer foundation that will only get better. Resident Evil has a long history of experimentation, whether it’s action-packed Mercenaries modes, Wii light-gun games, or the episodic Revelations 2. One of the most fondly remembered was Resident Evil Outbreak in 2003 which brought an entirely new perspective to the franchise thanks to its forward-looking online gameplay. Since then, multiplayer has become a noteworthy ingredient in subsequent spin-offs and mainline titles. Now bundled together with the remake of Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil Resistance looks to capitalize on the franchise’s trademark bioweapons with menacing four-on-one multiplayer. The story of Resistance isn’t canon by any means, but there’s still some context for the proceedings. Ozwell Spencer is intrigued by Alex Wesker’s recent reports of a virus mutation that grants superhuman abilities without physiological side effects, and he seeks to verify these findings by abducting residents of Raccoon City and subjecting them to sadistic experiments. Conducting shadowy research at the expense of human life aligns well with the overall themes of the series, and without being tied to prior events, there’s plenty of room for fan-favorite characters to join the roster. Each match pits four survivors against one mastermind in three time-based rounds. The mastermind places traps, directs enemies, and even assumes direct control over particular monstrosities from time to time. While the mastermind controls the cameras and plots their moves, the survivors have to work through different objectives as if they’re in an escape room. Round one tasks them with finding three hidden puzzle pieces. Round two requires the survivors to eliminate a zombie holding a key card, which is then used to activate three security terminals. And in the final round, they have to destroy three bio-cores before making a last stand through one final wave. The objectives aren’t the most interesting, but they do encourage teamwork. The mastermind can choose where the objectives are placed, but inadequate variety makes each match feel routine. It also makes it easy for the survivors to get comfortable, as it’s easy to learn what to do in every match, taking away the essential fear of unpredictability. Working as a team is still necessary if you want to win. Performing successful actions like killing enemies, reviving allies, or completing objectives adds time to the clock, but getting attacked or killed deducts time.

Each of the six survivors has various perks and skills they can use to fight back against the mastermind. Valerie is the resident medic and can deploy a modified first aid spray to heal and revive allies. Tyrone can briefly buff a teammate’s defenses, while January can trigger an EMP to disrupt cameras. Their abilities complement each other well, and any time you’re separated, the absence is felt. Lone wolves can typically handle inexperienced masterminds, but getting caught by yourself is an easy way to get picked off by a more competent player. Playing as the survivors is hit-or-miss, primarily because the online service is in a miserable state, with frequent lag and network issues. It can take a few seconds for damage to register after shooting enemies, creating bumpy combat situations where you don’t always feel in control. Unlike Resident Evil 3, Resistance does feature melee weapons, and their addition provides a nice contrast as you frantically bash some of the series’ most iconic creatures to bits. With friends by your side, there’s an enjoyable premise here that’s unlike anything else in the franchise. If you can handle the long queue times and inconsistent matchmaking, playing as the iconic masterminds is undoubtedly the highlight of Resident Evil Resistance. There are currently four villains, each with their own strengths and abilities that can be equipped as part of their loadouts.
