Carnivores Dinosaur Hunt Free Download Gopcgames.com Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt is a weird anomaly. This is a remaster… of a remaster. Time for a little history lesson: the original Carnivores was released in 1998 for PC. It received average reviews, but sold well enough to spawn an entire series based off its somewhat neat premise. The original game was then remastered to iOS in 2010. This remaster has just been re-remastered for modern day consoles. We’re basically playing a game from 1998 which has undergone two plastic surgeries over the past two and a half decades. This means we’re getting a game that feels modern in some aspects, but dated beyond belief in others. Graphically, it feels like I’m playing an upscaled version of a Gamecube game. It oddly reminded me of Turok Evolution‘s level design at times. It’s not horrible, just very, very dated. However, it does run at an excellent framerate and the dinosaurs are well-modeled, at the very least. The sound design is not exactly good, but for some reason, it’s quite charming. It’s full of very old sound effects from the late 90’s and the game felt a bit nostalgic as a result, even if unintentionally. Gopcgames.com

Now, the real problem lies in the gameplay. Weirdly enough, Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt‘s main highlight is also its gameplay. Control-wise, this is not a bad game at all. The controls are simplistic, but very responsive. You have a handful of gadgets, such as a radar, a sound dampener, some lures at your disposal, as well as a gun with a limited supply of ammo. You roam around a pseudo open map, hunt down as many dinos as you can by analyzing their weak spots with your “hunter vision”, then summon a flying saucer to take your game back to your base. It’s straightforward and at times quite relaxing. Controlling the game is fine. Progressing through it is a burden. It’s a freaking ordeal. I have no idea if the progression system was taken straight out of the iOS port, but Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt is stingy with how much money and experience it rewards you for each kill. It literally forces you to spend thousands of credits in order to unlock a map where you can actually hunt carnivores like the title tells you. You only get around ten to fifteen credits per kill, however. You need to grind like you’ve never done before in order to afford even the smallest of upgrades.

A diverse range of weapons and equipment to hunt with

Even though this game does feature a somewhat relaxing gameplay loop, this progression system demotivates you after just a few sessions. For everything I like in Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt, there’s something else that brings my enjoyment to a halt. I like the overall concept, as hunting down dinosaurs while trying not to get killed by your so-called “prey” is fun and unique. I even liked the Nintendo 64-era sound effects, which brought an odd sense of nostalgia. On the other hand, I was bummed with unbelievably dated graphics and lethargic progression system. It takes ages for you to afford a license to hunt an actually threatening carnivore, with each hunt giving you a pitiful amount of money and experience. I feel like this could have been a much more enjoyable title had the developers tweaked its progression system to make the game feel actually rewarding to those who play it. When I first saw a trailer for Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt, I heard a dinosaur make a bear noise and thought it was absolutely ridiculous and I wondered who would want to play this? Every hunt starts with you being dropped off on an island by what can only be described as a spaceship. After that, you’re on your own to explore and start hunting with only a rifle and a tracking device for company. The game encourages you to look for tracks in the dirt to track down dinos. I got more enjoyment in running aimlessly across the island until I saw a promising blip. Each to their own, right? Hunting dinosaurs in Carnivores: Dinosaur was an interesting challenge as each dinosaur can spot you in different ways, such as scent, sight or sound. So, depending on what you are hunting, you will have to keep an eye on which way the wind is blowing, how close to the target you are, and of course, to make sure you’re crouched down so that you’re not signalling your bad intentions to the dinosaurs. Bolting is something many of these Jurassic-age creatures will do once they see you. I say many, but there aren’t that many, and I would have liked a bit more variety in the trophy room. The start of the game tasks you with hunting rather docile creatures which was boring. But, after earning enough trophy points to unlock other islands and finally meeting some of the more exotic (and dangerous) dinosaurs, I did start to enjoy the game a bit more.

Trophy Room and Online Leader Boards

The dinosaur models themselves looked fairly good, though it’s hardly Jurassic World levels of realism. I can’t say for sure if they acted like their real-life extinct counterparts, but they roamed freely across the islands doing whatever dinosaurs do, which seemed to be a lot of sleeping and eating. No complaints from me, though, as some did look very cute laying amongst the ferns. After bagging a big dinosaur, make sure to get your spaceship to pick it up so that you get your rewards, and to see the ridiculous spaceship again. Once you leave the land of the dinosaurs for a well-deserved break, you can access your trophy room where you can marvel at your morbid display of dead animals. I expected to have a large variety on show but it quickly became the same dinosaur over and over again as I struggled to afford a license to hunt anything else during the early hours of the game. Affording equipment in Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunt was another issue I faced. Each dinosaur you hunt will give you some tokens that can be used to buy skills, weapons, or a dinosaur hunting license. You also earn trophy points which you can’t use to buy things but instead they count towards a separate score that will slowly get higher until you can unlock a new island with new beasts to slay. Only earning a few tokens or trophy points a hunting session meant that unlocking new things took forever, and many times gaining another dinosaur license felt lacklustre as they all acted rather similar. Certain equipment could also jeopardise the amount of bonus trophy points you achieve, further slowing down progression. Slowly saving up tokens will benefit you in the long run, because going into a hunt with several dinosaur licenses will make it easier to earn more tokens and trophy points and therefore increase your overall hunting score. There were benefits to buying new weapons. I found enjoyment trying to score my hunts with the crossbow, which required skill to get critical hits, and the sniper rifle which became my personal favourite due to both its accuracy and how easy it was to use. The weapons did have some drawbacks, such as how much noise they made or the amount of time it took for them to reload, which are both things you will have to consider while hunting dinosaurs.

What risks are you willing to take? You maybe surrounded but you’ll never be outgunned. There are some devices that all hunters should never leave home without, such as the gadget which allows you to monitor your surroundings on the map in real time, so you can see where dinosaurs are currently roaming. You can also swipe through multiple breeds once you’ve purchased that dinosaur’s license, allowing you to see their location on the map. In addition, you can turn the gadget into a handy pair of binoculars. This allows you to see dinosaurs in the distance as well as telling you their current distance from you, which is helpful when lining up a shot. The gadget can also help you call in your drone that can pick-up your trophies and evac you at any time. It can also deploy decoys when the ability is unlocked and has many other uses. Talking about weapons, you can hold one main weapon and purchase a small secondary weapon (perk). But you’ll mainly be focused on your main fire-arms, of which there are three: rifle (starter), bow and sniper that need to be unlocked through collecting gems in the campaign. Gems can only be earned by downing dinosaurs on the field, some grinding will be required to earn enough for all guns, perks and upgrades for both guns and upgrades for yourself. Nothing is cheap. Perks are definitely useful but can take a certain percentage away from your current trophy earnings, so I’d say use them sparingly during hunts. In the early stages, hunting can feel fairly easy and most of the early dinosaurs don’t provide any real challenge. However, once you start unlocking more stages and new licences there is definitely a change in trying to hunt each of the breeds available. For example, the stegosaurus is known to be quite slow. It will flee upon seeing you while the triceratops, once shot, will circle around you and if you’re close enough it will try and target you; definitely succeeding. If a dinosaur approaches you in close proximity, death is immediate. So, keep your distance and flee if you see any dinosaurs moving closer to your position. Especially if that dinosaur is a meat eater – you won’t stand a chance. You really need to be accurate during hunts to down dinosaurs quickly and efficiently.

A certain perk can prolong the following effect; you can look through your gadget and it allows you to see the creature’s x-ray view, which shows their lungs and heart for a few seconds. The same goes for while aiming down the sights of your gun, holding your breath. Once you shoot the dinosaur it will react. If shot in the lungs, it may continue to run until it collapses or it may require additional shots to bring it down quickly. You could go for the instant kill shot straight into the heart; this is more challenging but the rewards are far greater. Different dinosaurs have different abilities, like the ankylosaurus has additional armour and the parasaurolophus can run really quickly. Things only increase in difficulty when you start to unlock more aggressive dinosaurs. Especially the tyrannosaurus rex as they smell you and have sharper eye sight, so different approaches in hunting will have to be considered in the field. Ammo is also limited, you’ll need to evac if you run out of all your ammo by calling in your drone. Dinosaurs can be hunted as many times as you want and each creature you take down has its own weight, size, and score which can then be displayed in the trophy room.
