World War Z is a competent but basic shooter that seems designed to foster those sorts of memorable moments, and that is surely its greatest strength. It’s a good venue for a group of four friends to get together, topple massive zombie hordes, maybe save a few survivors here and there, and laugh about it when the results roll in. There’s nothing revolutionary or even that remarkable about World War Z, but the formula it follows is proven to be fun. Comparisons between World War Z and the Left 4 Dead series are more than justified – unavoidable, even, as Valve’s decade-old series is still revered today for its fast-paced action and ability to throw dozens of raving zombies at you at once. Ever since, there’s been a certain set of guidelines one looks for when dealing with co-op zombie shooter games. World War Z neatly checks every box on that list while upping the amount of zombies that can be on screen at a time considerably.Its 11 linear gauntlet missions involve completing a series of easy to understand tasks – barricading a safe house, planting explosives, etc – that effectively promote teamwork and communication, especially during jam-packed zombie attacks. Weapons, ammunition, healing items, and heavy gear are scattered about its levels, especially as rewards for those who take the initiative to explore off the beaten path. Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

There’s nothing I love more than rifling through a corpse’s pockets. Shooting and looting is so common in videogames that I’ve spent many hours of my finite life checking over dead guys for ammo, cash, or sometimes a sparkly gem or magic potion. The thrill of discovery combined with the rush of grave-robbing? It’s the best. Searching corpses in World War Z, a zombie shooter based on that one Brad Pitt movie from 2013, is never fun. Instead, it’s a recurring scavenger hunt where the key to a locked door is on the corpse of an employee or security guard. During one of these key hunts, my co-op teammates and I seek out the six Very Special Corpses who aren’t up and running around, and then press E on their bodies. These hunts play out the same way every time: the last body I searched had the key. I did this routine at least once in each of World War Z’s four campaign chapters. I have many complaints about World War Z, a four-player co-op shooter similar to Valve’s classic Left 4 Dead. This might be the pettiest, but it encapsulates a lot of what’s wrong with the game: its repetitive level design, thoughtless obstacles, and tendency to take any good idea and jump on it until it’s dead. It’s weird to get a videogame based off a movie five years after the fact. Still, it’s even weirder that World War Z takes inspiration from the 2013 movie when Max Brooks’s best selling 2006 novel is just sitting right there, full of amazing stories of survival and human drama. The only nod to the book is the “Lobo,” a special shovel-based melee weapon invented by Marines that becomes standard-issue in the rebuilt American Army. In World War Z, the Lobo is DLC for players who pre-ordered the special edition.

The movie adaptation stripped off everything special about the book—which I am in no way still bitter about five years later, ha ha, that would be ridiculous—to become a bland zombie movie overshadowed by other, better zombie movies. In the same way, World War Z is a bland zombie shooter overshadowed by other, better co-op shooters. To some extent, there’s nothing memorable about World War Z on the Switch. Dustin gave a fairly thorough breakdown of all there is to know about the game back when it first came out on PS4 and Xbox One a couple of years ago, and pretty much everything there was to be said about it was said then. At the same time, though, that’s kind of impressive in and of itself. While I wouldn’t say that World War Z is the most graphically intensive game out there, it’s still a game that requires you to slaughter seemingly endless waves of zombies coming at you from all directions. Given that, you might think the Switch would struggle to show it all on the screen without there being some serious slowdown — and yet, it doesn’t. No matter how many zombies are scrambling up a wall, the game just keeps on chugging along. Mind you, the end results aren’t always the prettiest looking. In fact, the game is downright ugly at times, and the zombie horde sometimes looks more like a blurry zombie blob. Still, it works, which is really all you could hope for.

What’s more, because it works, the combat feels awfully satisfying — though I think I approached the game very differently than most people. I know that the game is meant to be played as a squad, as Dustin noted, as a none-too-subtle take-off of Left 4 Dead; there’s certainly plenty of firepower at your disposal here, whether you want to blow the zombies up, set them on fire, or simply gun them all down. Personally, though, I took a great amount of joy in whacking away at the zombie hordes with my machete, relying on my (surprisingly competent) AI squadmates to shoot any of the excess monsters if their numbers got too great. It wasn’t an orthodox way to approach the threat, but it was still fun. World War Z is a cooperative third-person online shooter developed by Saber Interactive and published by Mad Dog Games. Back in 2019, the game was released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One and now we have a port to Nintendo Switch in 2021. Playing the game on Switch was my first time to experience the game and because of the overall enjoyment, I downloaded the game to see what it was like on Xbox Series S. Overall, the Switch version is quite faithful to the other versions of World War Z. I’m quite pleased with the game no matter what console I play it on – it’s just plain intense fun overall!

World War Z is fun, but just a little more added originality could’ve gone a long way toward making it feel like its own game.

World War Z is loosely based off the book and movie of the same name. It takes place in the same world and has a great representation of both mediums. The game features a campaign, a horde mode and a multiplayer mode. The campaign can be played single player or you can team up with other players online. Each chapter of the game is set in a different location around the world. All locations have their own group of four unique survivors to choose from with their own storyline. There are a total of four locations and three to four individual levels with each location. The character diversity in this game is very noteworthy. You’ll find a great deal of nationalities and races among the cast and not many repeats – if you happen to get the Aftermath DLC on Xbox, the character diversity is even greater. Each survivor is basically a skin. You can customize them with weapons and character classes. The game has about 3-4 different types of weapons for each weapon class. It has many weapons and they all feel unique in their own way (shotguns, handguns, SMGs, rifles, sniper rifles, flamethrowers, etc). You have your primary weapon, secondary weapon and heavy weapon all of which you can carry at once. Each weapon can gain experience as you use it and you can purchase upgrades for each weapon type in between stages. Character classes (total of seven classes) determine your starting weapon set and give you access to extra attributes exclusive to that class (such as reloading 25% faster). Each character class can be leveled up with points gained at the end of a stage to unlock more attributes in that class. Even though you start with weapons based on your class, you can also find weapons throughout a stage and change them whenever you want. ELEX II 

The main enemy in the game is the zombie for the most part. You’ll fight a variety of zombie types such as those that can infect with acid spit and those that run toward your group armed with explosives. The zombies in the game act much like they did in the movie. The zombies are fast and they climb on top of each other to build ladders up to high areas. When not traversing through a stage, your group will be preparing for an oncoming horde of zombies by fortifying the area. You can deploy automatic turrets, barbed wire, electric fences and other forms of defense to help fight off the horde. The game has a decent story and atmosphere to it. Each stage has a certain number of objectives to perform such as finding a key to activate a console, protecting a certain person or defending a certain position among many other objectives. The difficulty can get very extreme even on the easiest of modes. When this game sends a horde after your team in later stages, the game gets SUPER intense. If you don’t plan properly, zombies will easily overrun your team on any difficulty. Based loosely on the TV series and book of the same name, World War Z‘s gameplay seems pretty clearly inspired by the likes of Left 4 Dead. Four survivors try to survive a zombie apocalypse by blasting their way through a variety of locales, taking advantage of defenses both natural and otherwise wherever they can. Those four survivors can be controlled by humans or the CPU as needed, with full online play support. The main gimmick that separates this game from Left 4 Dead is the sheer number of undead that can pile up on-screen at once. It’s certainly eye-catching in a way few zombie games can offer. Unfortunately, it’s also the only really special thing about the game.

The defensive objectives are always enjoyable and strongly push you and your team members to work together.

Well, the Switch version does have one more special thing about it. This is a really terrific port of a game that feels like it should be difficult to pull off on the system. Saber Interactive is known for their quality ports, and with this being one of their own I suppose it isn’t too surprising that it runs with fewer sacrifices than one would expect. Online play worked well for me, though depending on the time of day it could be tough to fill all the seats. You’ll get the usual resolution and framerate hits, but all things considered it’s a fine way to play World War Z.World War Z is another impressive notch in Saber Interactive’s Switch port belt. The game itself is somewhat middling, but the conversion is as good as you would expect from the developer that brought The Witcher 3 to the platform. You’ll have a particularly good time if you can get some friends to play through it with you, though it never quite takes wing the way you might hope. It’s no Left 4 Dead, but as that series has yet to make its way to the Switch, I suppose it doesn’t have to be. It just needs to offer some enjoyable multiplayer undead carnage, and I suppose it handles that well enough. For defensive objectives – by far the most common and fun type – you’re given about a minute to decide where to deploy machine gun turrets while communicating strategies and picking spots for your teammates to stand guard before the zombies come pouring out of every opening, crack, and crevice. It’s a simple foundation for an encounter, but it was always enjoyable and strongly pushed me and my team members to work together.

One standout mission put us in an underground warehouse where the bottom floor of a multi-level room was filled with poison. The goal was to search one of the bodies amid the poisonous fog to find a key to access the ventilation system, meaning one player on our team would have to take damage to retrieve it. After a quick chat, we decided the teammate with the most health would take the dangerous plunge while the rest of us protected our brave friend from the grated walkway above. The tense situation quickly became hectic as enemies appeared from within the foggy toxins.World War Z’s campaign spans the world, following different sets of four characters trying to survive in the United States, Israel, Russia, and Japan. I liked getting to hop around the world to different campaigns. Switching things up between sparse desert and frozen Russian streets makes the story feel bigger and more universal. Unfortunately, I found that switching to new characters every few levels made the survivors forgettable. Hopping from a New York City fireman to a Russian Orthodox priest makes for an interesting cultural leap, but I couldn’t tell you any of their names. ELDEN RING

Just take a look at the cool yet limited number of special zombies that frequently appear to shake things up. There’s the poison-spewing Gasbag that needs to be strategically killed from a distance and the pouncing Lurker that picks off straying party members and must be knocked off by a teammate. You also have the annoyingly distant Screecher that summons extra zombies, as well as the massive Bull that can quickly incapacitate a teammate and dismantle a mission if given half a chance. They’re all good fights, but they are essentially carbon copies of Left 4 Dead’s cast of Special Infected. Just a little originality could’ve gone a long way toward making World War Z feel like its own game. On top of that, most of your arsenal of weapons comes across as a bit bland. Using a shotgun to blow off heads or an SMG to mow down large groups feels just like they’re supposed to, but they’re far from the most exciting form of attack. The fun-to-use and hard-to-find crossbow is the only weapon in World War Z that really stands out, with explosive-tipped arrows that send small groups of zombies flying into the air after a satisfying detonation. It’s a blast to use, but sadly it’s one of the few items to offer a fresh method of dealing with the undead. Outside some of the other explosive weapons like the Rocket Launcher, nobody on my team was really fighting over the chance to grab any of the two dozen different standard weapons lying around. World War Z is clearly trying for a more serious tone to its story and characters, and the “realism” of its vanilla weapons might be part of that, but it’s definitely possible to add more interesting options while maintaining that attitude. Instead it makes little effort to do so, which is disappointing.
