Time Keeper Free Download Unfitgirl You play as a little robot who has just woken up with its memories missing. You make your way to an ominously lit building and meet a floating ball of energy called the guardian. It explains that things are in dire straits and all of existence is in peril. Mysterious creatures known as temporal parasites have arrived like a plague capable of travelling across time and space. In their wake, this building, the cosmic clock, has been damaged. Now I don’t know about you, but something with the word cosmic in the title sure sounds important. Needless to say, the stability of space-time isn’t doing so hot. On top of this bombshell, the guardian asks for your help. You’re the only one left who can repair the cosmic clock. The stakes are high, and the inner workings of this cosmic business are unclear. But suspend your disbelief and use your brainpower on mechanical puzzles instead. You might just find yourself having a pretty good time. Time Keeper is a puzzle platformer at its core and naturally, this is where the best moments of my playthrough came from. In order to make repairs, you need to traverse and avoid dangerous gaps, mines, temporal parasites, and flame geysers, among other traps and pitfalls. However, something that may grind some people’s gears is the pitiful jump your little robot buddy sports. It may be a matter of personal preference, but be warned of painfully slow jumps that cover very little distance. On one hand, It makes gameplay more purposeful. Every move is slow enough for you to give jumps some thought before you’ve even made it near a ledge. It also makes it quite easy to get the timing right on jumps. You’ll rarely ever over or undershoot anything. But on the other hand, it can make gameplay feel a little lethargic. I can admit that at times I just wished there was a dash or sprint button from the get-go. Platforming is only half the battle though, and the easy half at that. The real challenge comes from the many mechanical puzzles hindering your repairs. Time Keeper makes use of “cause and effect” puzzles. Levers and switches will affect doors, each other, platforms, and rolling balls that can trigger switches in your place. Triggering everything in the right sequence is the only way to progress. But finding the right sequence is where the challenge lies. Often these puzzles will mix with the platforming placing a larger emphasis on timing. Things start off simple, but they quickly evolve into some proper head-scratchers.

Beauty & the Beast

Thankfully your robot gains an extremely beneficial ability; time travel. When you make a mistake or flip the wrong switch blocking progress you’re able to go back to the beginning of the puzzle. This is especially useful in later stages where trial and error is the only way to avoid sitting with a notepad for a few hours trying to figure out how to solve a particularly tough puzzle. Thanks to this one mechanic I found myself a lot more comfortable making mistakes and taking risks. The mechanical puzzles provide just the right amount of challenge. They’ll require some thought and at times careful timing to progress. However, the inclusion of the time travel ability makes it a lot more enjoyable to experiment with systems and figure out a solution. You’ll pull a lever to get a ball rolling. Run over to a switch to stop the ball from triggering the wrong one. Then wait for it to pass before making a mad dash to get a nearby platform it will soon be raising. Solving these puzzles, and pulling it all off was so satisfying. That moment when everything clicked and it all just made sense was a feeling I found myself chasing before too long. I often caught myself going for “one more level”. The levels are just the right length for this too. They never overstay their welcome. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening 

A handful of puzzles per level and you find yourself rewarded with progress, making for an addictive gameplay loop. Time Keeper employs classical music as the majority of its soundtrack. Which worked quite well with its gameplay. It’s the kind of music that one would never really find grating or annoying after spending an extended amount of time navigating through a more difficult section. Unless of course, you really don’t care for classical music in general. Something about the puzzle-solving, platforming and robots really meshed well with the music choices. However, this music isn’t present throughout. There are many levels where the music inexplicably changes into generic platforming music that I struggle to recall even now. They’re just awfully forgettable pieces that really made me miss the presence of the classical pieces. As you all may well know if you read my review of Sokobos, I’m a big fan of puzzle games or even puzzles within games such as the ones you get in Tomb Raider or Resident evil. So, when Time Keeper was sent to our inbox to try out, I thought why not let’s give it ago and get that good old mental sweat going.

One Small Step, One Smaller Leap

For those of you who are unaware, Time Keeper is the story and puzzle game of a small windup robot named Tic Toc who has been given the mammoth task of repairing the Cosmic Clock. Why? Why has this small cute looking little robot been given this job? Well, that’s because this poor little fella happens to be linked to the Cosmic Clock itself which is something you find out at the start of the game while it gives you a small controls tutorial. The tutorial is given to you by a green ball of light known as ‘The Guardian’ (something tells me the creator may be a fan of Destiny but who am I to say). The tutorial is fairly simple and consists of A & D to move left and right, spacebar to jump and the W key to activate switches. For those of you who turn your nose up at mouse and keyboard well fear not as the game also has controller support. The game from here is fairly simple in all honesty, puzzles across 4 different stages that you access via a sort of main hub. Take little Tic Toc to one of these gates or doorways if you will and off you teleport to the puzzle. The puzzles aren’t all that challenging and consist of you pulling levers to activate movement of platforms or have a banana shaped girder drop a ball which will then roll into a position and activate something else. Now and again certain levers or switches will be locked which then requires you to find a key somewhere in the level to unlock. Again, not over challenging but mixes it up a little from time to time, as well as some mechanisms that broken which similar to the lock and key you need to find the piece or cog to fix it. think it would probably be suited better to mobile then PC. However, it was created by one person so credit where credit is due, I just think people will remember for looking bad rather than a good puzzle game. Overall, Time Keeper is a fun little puzzle game with what can be described as a cute little hero trying to bundle his way through time and space to fix the mysterious Cosmic Clock. With that said if I had my own Cosmic Clock would I use it to go back through Time Keeper again? More than likely not but at least its good enough to get a single play through. In Time Keeper you take the role of Tic Toc, an adorable wind-up robot who embarks on a time-bending adventure in order to save the very fabric of reality. The game begins with Tic Toc narrowly escaping the clutches of a time anomaly and landing in a world that simultaneously feels both unknown and familiar.

The Good and the Bad

Without any memories, both Tic Toc and the player will have to journey forward to understand the where, and most importantly the when of the location they have landed in. As you travel through the game’s initial levels you will familiarize yourself with the game’s foundational puzzle mechanics and you will encounter Time Keeper’s other main characters: the Guardian and Old-Timer. Soon after, you will begin to unravel the mysterious sequence of events that have endangered the universe, and you will forge a plan to repair the instrument that controls all of time and space, the Cosmic Clock. What I especially like about Time Keeper is how the entire game feels like a CGI cartoon from the 90s or early 2000s brought to life in the form of a game. And I say that on a very positive note as I have very fond memories of the animated movies and shows of that era. The world of Time Keeper evokes something strangely nostalgic while also being pleasant and playful. The game’s cutscenes are a big highlight of the adventure and a very impressive addition considering the fact that Time Keeper is a solo project. It is clear that a lot of time and attention to detail went into creating the cutscenes which all feel dynamic, fun, refined, and make the world feel alive and interesting. The Long Dark

There are many great sequences and cinematography techniques present in these cutscenes which reveal the author’s background and extensive experience in the field of animation. I thought the characters and their designs were also delightful, memorable, and a strong part of the game. The different environments found in Time Keeper are also distinct and interesting as they are filled with all kinds of machinations and silly gizmos with playful designs and fluid animations. Time Keeper hides a lot of charm behind its rusty mechanical gears, which is no doubt the result of a great amount of dedicated passion, time, and thought by the author. It is a game that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling every time you boot it up which is the kind of sense I always get when playing any indie game that has a great amount of effort and love put into itUnfortunately, most of the game’s positive highlights end with the first paragraph. The gameplay experience that Time Keeper presents is one that suffers from numerous game design issues on a fundamental level. Let’s start with Time Keeper’s identity which I believe is the origin point of most of the game’s problems. Time Keeper presents itself as a puzzle platformer with “cause and effect” mechanical puzzles.

However, the game is actually a hybrid between a puzzle and a precision platformer. There is a significant emphasis (both in the transitional areas and within the puzzles themselves) on timing your jumps, dodging obstacles, timing your movements, avoiding hazards, utilizing traversal devices within the level to get from one place to another, and more. And here is where the core issue comes in: the controls, movement system, and level mechanics are nowhere near polished and responsive enough to support a fluid and fun precision platforming experience. Precision platformers are notorious for being hard to get right as all the ingredients that contribute to making them enjoyable and interesting need to be pristine and executed on an almost perfect level. In most cases, the poor execution of such elements not only does not improve the overall experience but substantially takes away from it. And sadly, Time Keeper falls in that category. The implementation of precision platforming aspects feels like a burden to the game’s charming and clever side and makes the gameplay feel frustrating and, in many cases, even infuriatingg. Additionally, the puzzle design also suffers from similar choices.
