The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles Free Download Unfitgirl The last time we saw Phoenix Wright and friends, the stars of the Ace Attorney franchise, they were in a made-up country called Khura’in. Spirit of Justice came out for 3DS in 2016, and was relatively divisive — a lot of critics ranked it highly, but others found issue with its “wishy-washy” mechanics and its heavy reliance on made-up mysticism. It also marked a fairly big change in the Ace Attorney games: though they’ve always been quite coy about where they’re set, they’ve never really left the United States (or Japan, if you’re a purist) — at least, until Spirit of Justice, where significant chunks of the story are set in a fictional country. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, as many fans will already know, is set in Meiji-era Japan and Victorian England, making it it almost the exact opposite of Spirit of Justice: instead of being made-up, it’s firmly rooted in historical fact and steeped in the vernacular of the time. It can be quite jarring to go from the often light-hearted, goofy fictional world of Phoenix Wright (the man who adopted a daughter out of nowhere, and has a sidekick who can read emotions with a magical bracelet) to the weirdly real world of Wright’s ancestor, Ryunosuke Naruhodo — not least because the latter is also very, very Japanese. The Great Ace Attorney relies so much on Japanese culture, language, and history that it can at times feel alienating, even though it would be ludicrous to ask a Japanese game made by Japanese writers to tone it down. It’s no one’s fault, and it’s no one’s problem to fix; it just is what it is. The localisation is fantastic, and does a great job of explaining things as you go, whether it’s the writings of Soseki Natsume (a very famous Japanese novelist who used to be on the 1000-yen note).Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

Or a play on words that requires knowledge of the intricacies of the Japanese language, but even with all that, it does occasionally feel like a very kind friend is explaining an inside joke to you; you end up with all the context, but you’re still not really in on the joke. There’s still so much to enjoy about the writing anyway that it’s not really an issue for most of the time. You can tell, even without speaking Japanese, the amount of thought, care, and research that went into the text. Characters from smoggy old London feel genuinely British: world-weary, cynical, utterly tired of the cold and the fog, and if you take a drink every time someone mentions tea you’ll have liver failure in a matter of minutes. In contrast, the Japanese characters seem nervous, wide-eyed, and overly-polite; it’s all part of their characters, of course, especially in a foreign and not particularly welcoming country, not to mention the overt racism they’re faced with, like jury members instantly distrusting them because of their provenance, or one particular prosecutor that’s constantly throwing nasty barbs at them based on their ethnicity. Almost everything else about the game is similarly brilliant. The backgrounds are stunningly detailed, and it’s almost a shame that only a very small amount of it can be examined for unique dialogue. Likewise, the level of quality in the detailed animations and characterful personas is almost too emotional for a long-time fan to bear, because it shows how far the series has come, and how much respect and admiration it’s gained in the 20 years since it first came out. It’s truly incredible to see characters interacting with each other, from gentle prods with an umbrella to a maid pouring tea over her master’s lap as a passive-aggressive way to tell him to shut up.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles examine evidence and clues.

The character interactions are the heart of The Great Ace Attorney, because the new gimmicks — every Ace Attorney adds at least one — largely involve people interacting with other people. In the court-based portions of the game, multiple witnesses can appear at once, and part of the methods you’ll use to defend your client will involve how the witnesses react to someone else’s testimony. Then, there’s the jury, which is pulled from the real-life British legal system, despite a lot of Ace Attorney-style weirdness added in (people directly involved with the case can be on the jury, for example). The jury can declare their verdict at any point, and if they all decide your client is guilty, then you have to claw back their support (or their indifference, at least) by pitting their opinions against one another. Finally, there’s the investigative gimmick, in which Sherl– sorry, HERLOCK SHOLMES, the legally-distinct-but-still-recognisable detective, makes a bunch of observations and then Ryunosuke has to gently redirect him to the right conclusions like an errant Roomba that’s stuck on a rug. Like a great detective novel, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles gives us clues in its opening moments that won’t pay off until its final hours. That trick is even more impressive here as the adventure games collected, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, were originally published two years apart and together tell one continuous 80 hour story. Clues, character arcs, cases–all are revealed slowly over the course of the two visual novels, culminating in one satisfying conclusion that ties it all together. Adventures, from 2015, and Resolve, from 2017, take players back roughly 100 years before Phoenix Wright ever entered the courtroom. Wartales

Here, players take on the role of that famous ace attorney’s ancestor, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, at the dawn of the 20th century. The story begins in Meiji Period Japan before traveling to Victorian-era England, where the bulk of the action takes place. That action, as in Phoenix Wright, involves collecting evidence from crime scenes, waiting for the right moment to use it in court and then presenting it at the right time during a cross examination to make a witness’ testimony fall apart. As The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures begins, Japan and Great Britain have just entered into a trade agreement. The ink on the agreement is barely dry–historically speaking, that is; a character later suggests that the agreement has been in place for a decade–so when Naruhodo is caught with a pistol in his hand at the scene of a visiting British professor’s murder, the resulting trial carries with it the weight of the fragile alliance between the two empires. With the case all but decided against him, Naruhodo must prove his innocence with the help of his best friend, Kazuma Asogi, a law student set to embark the next day for a study abroad program in England. The katana-wielding Kazuma is strong-willed, confident, and believes wholeheartedly that his friend is innocent, and that belief motivates Naruhodo’s own practice of law as the game progresses, with the young defense attorney understanding well the difference that his belief in his clients’ innocence can make. The game is great in moments like that opening case, when the player begins a case on their backfoot and must learn the facts on the fly.

Gameplay.

These cases, which introduce evidence over the course of the trial, much more capably sustain interest than the cases that have full-fledged investigations before you even enter the courtroom. Adventures’ final case, which features a lengthy investigation followed by an even lengthier court case, suffers from the feeling that it may never end. Both games feature court cases in the East and in the West, which means learning procedures for both Japanese and British courtrooms. The biggest difference is that British court cases are decided by a jury–who, in a fun visual metaphor, must cast balls of fire onto white or black braziers on a massive scale which looms over the courtroom–while Japanese verdicts are adjudicated exclusively by the judge. As a result, in both games, Japanese court cases function as a tutorial, introducing players to the basics of cross-examining witnesses and presenting evidence before the added complexity of the jury is added later on. The basic gameplay is fairly straightforward. After a crime occurs, you search the scene and find objects that may or may not have relevance to the case and as you do, they’re entered into the Court Record, so you can access them in the stand. Then, once a court case begins, you use the evidence you’ve collected to highlight issues in a witness’ testimony by cross examining them. While The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is not entirely free from the “I know what the game means, but it will only accept one specific piece of evidence” problems that have popped up in past Ace Attorney games, it’s rare enough here that it didn’t bother me.Evil Dead The Game

Plus, you can save anytime or switch to Story Mode, which makes the game play itself, if you ever get stumped. The distinct personalities on the jury add an extra layer of fun, requiring players to pit jurors against each other and contrast their contradictory statements to pinpoint holes in their reasoning. Often the reasoning presented is fuzzy. One guy who shows up in multiple juries just says that he wants the trial to be over so he can get back to work. Sometimes jurors just have a bad feeling about the defendant and let that prejudice cloud their judgment. It’s your job to press them until they clarify their stance, then select their statement and another juror’s statement to bring the contradiction to light. It’s a smart system that requires some critical thinking from the player and I enjoyed the process of turning a statement over in my head, searching for a flaw. The upshot of introducing more and more mechanics as the game progresses is that the final case in Adventures is extremely long. While the tutorial case can be completed in three to five hours, the final case in Adventures took me roughly 10 hours to complete. That’s a long time to spend on one case and, as I approached the conclusion, the twists that were, initially, charming and exciting, became exhausting. Rather than actually solving the puzzle, it can feel like you’re spending hours wrangling unwieldy pieces into place, despite coming to the correct conclusion long before the game reveals it. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is the kind of engrossing murder mystery that’s perfect for a long vacation — it just happens to be a video game. As a prequel of sorts, Chronicles takes place long before the original Ace Attorney trilogy, with new characters and a much more grounded tone, but with the same absorbing investigative gameplay and shock story twists that make it hard to put down.

Story.

It’s the best of the franchise in one lengthy package. The game — which is actually a collection of two titles that previously launched in Japan — follows a budding defense attorney named Ryunosuke Naruhodo during the late 19th century in Japan. Things immediately get off to a rough start. In the first case, Naruhodo is forced to defend himself in court after being accused of murder. The second case features a shockingly unexpected death… which Naruhodo is also accused of committing. Things don’t slow down from there. The story jumps from Meiji-era Japan to Victorian London, with lots of delightful twists along the way. If you’ve never played an Ace Attorney game, they play out a bit like a visual novel crossed with a detective game. Scenes generally revolve around either a court appearance or the investigation of a crime, so you’ll spend most of your time searching for clues, interrogating witnesses, and reading over lots and lots of dialogue. It works because of the incredible writing — buoyed by a great localization — that seamlessly jumps from goofy to serious to heart-wrenching. Most importantly, there’s the incredible feeling that comes from finding the right piece of evidence or contradictory testimony that will blow a case wide open. That was all true of past games, and Chronicles improves the formula in a few ways. For starters, the cases feel more grounded in reality, with less bizarre coincidences that make it impossible to predict what’s really going on. Later entries in the series went a little extreme in this regard, but Chronicles reels things back without getting rid of the exaggerated characters and silly puns.

Perhaps my favorite addition, though, is Herlock Sholmes, a detective who joins forces with Naruhodo. Like the real Sherlock, he’s gifted in the art of deduction, but he’s also a bit of a goof, constantly making mistakes that Naruhodo has to correct. Just like in court, it’s really satisfying finding the correct answers based on his flawed observations, particularly since he’s always so sure of himself. Chronicles also introduces a few other new features that make it a bit more accessible than past entries. For one, you can play the 10 cases in any order, as if you were picking episodes to play on Netflix. But there’s also a new “story” mode that essentially plays the game for you. It’ll run through dialogue automatically and even choose the right piece of evidence, without you having to touch a single button. Given how long Chronicles is — it’ll probably take you at least 40 hours to play through the whole thing — I found it nice to just sit back and watch at times. It’s also handy for those moments when you’re not quite sure how to proceed, as getting stuck can really ruin the flow of the game. As a largely standalone prequel, Chronicles is a great starting point for new players, but it also might just be the best that Ace Attorney has to offer. It has shocking twists, lovable characters, and the unmatched joy that comes from solving a complex crime. And with 10 meaty chapters to play through, it’ll keep you busy at least until the end of summer.
