Strayed Lights Free Download Gopcgames.com A good parry in a video game is my weakness. My favorite DMC style is Royal Guard, I’ve watched that one famous Street Fighter clip 100 times, and I play every Fromsoft game with a kite shield. It’s an action that, when done right, just feels so good to perform. Strayed Lights is an artsy, Journey or Flower style game but with a combat system entirely focused on parrying. Naturally, I had to jump in and see how it feels. You play as a being of light who, shortly after being born, is attacked and infected by a being of darkness that emerges from their reflection. You then go on a journey over the course of your childhood and adulthood to defeat your darkness and help others like you. The story is entirely up to interpretation, with no dialogue whatsoever. It’s still a novel way of telling a story in modern games, so I won’t spoil it, but it’s pretty much what you would expect. I didn’t find it particularly compelling, partially because the music does a poor job of accompanying cutscenes or gameplay. It feels like the soundtrack is going at a 100 when it really should be more subdued and atmospheric. Gopcgames.com

The game has a rich and immersive storyline that unfolds as players progress through the levels. The story is revealed through in-game dialogue and cutscenes.

This dark entity wants to steal your character’s light.

It feels like the soundtrack is going at a 100 when it really should be more subdued and atmospheric. Like you’ll have some epic drums playing after a fight has already wound down and your character is trying to make peace with their opponent. Parrying negates all damage, while parrying with the right colour also restores health. Defeating any enemy restores health too, while dying sets you back to a recent checkpoint. There’s a sense of the Soulslike about it at times, in the way you must block, parry and evade, but Strayed Lights is less challenging than that. The biggest problem I have with Strayed Lights is that I have no idea why I’m doing anything. During the first area, you help out a smaller, presumably weaker being, who then becomes a boss for a while, and then is a friend again after you beat it. And I don’t understand any of it. Maybe there’s a deeper meaning and I’m just not reading the flow of events correctly, but Strayed Lights has no dialogue or even flavour text. The only words on screen are tutorials. Which meant that for the whole 5 or 6 hours it lasts, I was just plodding on for the sake of it.  Farmer’s Father: Save the Innocence

I had no idea what was at stake, why I was born with the power to fight, why some of these little light dudes becomes huge monsters sometimes, or why the world is the way it is at all. I’m all for environmental storytelling, but I wasn’t really seeing that in Strayed Lights, either. The world is certainly atmospheric, and it’s clear which atmosphere it’s trying to convey – but why? Why is it dark and corrupt? Why are there weird glowing pink eggs in the hub area that seem to only unlock concept art? It’s bizarre, and within an hour or so it was frustrating me. There’s no hook here to pull me on – and even the above average gameplay can only carry it so far. Minute-to-minute gameplay is fine. It takes some time to get used to switching states between enemies, but it’s not nuanced enough. For instance, when you fight two enemies at once and one is charging you with purple attacks and the other is attacking with a colour, it’s easy to trip up. Likewise if one enemy is orange and the other blue – you’re only blocking one of them properly. You can earn two types of skill points to improve your overall stats or unlock new skills.

At least the game has this cute animal you can pat on the head

Once an enemy is weakened enough, you press a single button to destroy them and absorb their essence, which translates into one skill point per enemy. These skills are mostly used in combat. One, for example, allows you to do a powerful frontal attack that disrupts enemies, while another lets you heal regardless of what colour you’re parrying for a limited time. None are really game-changing, but they are helpful. Strayed Lights is a nice enough game to put a few hours into, but the lack of any real story makes it all feel a little forgettable. The combat is serviceable, but colour matching enemies is nothing new, and once you’ve got the basics down it never really changes that much unless you’re fighting a boss. These gargantuan beasts do offer a challenge, and each is a genuine spectacle, but without context or reason, you’re just going through the motions because video game. For a game designed by a relatively small indie studio, Strayed Lights is more than competent in terms of gameplay and combat. The problem is that, while the world is pretty and the peril real, nothing is explained or given meaning. Farmer’s Dynasty

The result is a strong sense of disconnect that I couldn’t ignore. Some of you may have a different experience. This is certainly a very beautiful and atmospheric experience, and for many that will be enough, but I found Strayed Lights to be simultaneously too safe and too obtuse to be an instant classic. Emerging from a pod as a newborn being made out of light, your nameless character stumbles out into a raging storm in a world drenched in purples and blues. The pacing of the intro is somewhat slow, but it’s not too long until you become a stronger humanoid vessel after seeing your reflection. However, that comes with a risk of corruption as a dark entity attempts to rob you of what is essentially your soul, depicted as an orb of your inner light. In the conflict, the orb shatters across the many areas of the world, thereby calling you to gather, ahem, the strayed lights throughout the game. Strayed Lights features a story without words, which is a good technique to use for what is a short and mostly simple narrative. There are a few twists when it comes to the bosses, particularly one involving some scuttling insects, and you can unlock several images of the past that provide some hints of who you are and how you came to be.

This skill tree is minimalist maybe too minimalist.

That said, the mystery isn’t particularly difficult to solve, as it’s fairly easy to work out what’s going on by paying attention to any text the game does give you and by looking at the descriptions in the achievements list. Where the game’s narrative could have improved is in its environmental storytelling. It isn’t deficient by any means, but compared to other games like Journey and Abzu, there weren’t enough points of interest to make me wonder about the world all that much. It’s a mystery without enough hooks. At least there’s a cute deer-like animal, more than several waterfalls, and a cool dream-like sequence in the back half of the story, but most of what I explored were a bunch of random ruins. Exploration is mainly done out of finding clumps of energy collectibles rather than uncovering more about the lore. It also doesn’t help that platforming and movement feel very loose, imprecise, and underdeveloped. Those battles are mostly one-on-one affairs, though the game will throw quite a few 2v1 fights in the mix later on. Unlike most games, your immediate objective in a fight isn’t to reduce your opponent’s HP to zero. Farming Simulator 15 Gold Edition

The game’s soundtrack is designed to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere, allowing players to fully immerse themselves in the game world.

Instead, you build up a meter near the bottom of the screen by parrying, then release that energy for a one hit KO. You can attack with a three hit combo, but you can’t cancel out of the final hit into a parry and attacks don’t build as much energy. Additionally, you can swap between orange and blue at any time, and only parrying an attack of the matching color will build energy. If you’re the opposing color, you’ll still block the damage, however. Some attacks will be purple rather than blue or orange, and those you’ll need to dodge instead of parry. I do find that these types of attacks happen a bit too often for a game where the enemy sets the pace of combat rather than the player, and it often leads to me getting impatient and just tanking the hit to build meter with attacks. That could very well be the point, but sometimes an enemy will just be purple for several, lengthy attacks in a row which gets frustrating.

That’s essentially all you do for the three and a half hours the game takes to beat. While it is short, I appreciate the razor sharp focus on a single mechanic; it feels super polished and fully explored with different enemy attack patterns. There are also several collectables to find, and each enemy and boss you defeat will reward you with points to upgrade your character. Collectables will reveal more of the story or improve the amount of energy gained on a successful parry, while enemy skill points can purchase stat upgrades and boss points get you usable abilities. There are three abilities to learn with two more upgrade tiers. These let you block both colors for a set amount of time, stun an enemy, or perform a gap closer attack. I wasn’t able to fully upgrade my character by the end of the game, and I didn’t find the abilities other than blocking both colors to be very useful. Instead, the game is all about improving your own skill at watching the enemy and parrying at the right time. It’s not terribly deep, I didn’t get all that much out of the story either, but it’s fun if you’re looking for a unique combat experience.
