Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova Switch NSP Free Download Unfitgirl This game features a new story that takes place in between seasons 1A and 1B — after the events of “A Moral Star, Part 2,” and this month’s “Asylum,” which airs on October 27 — and the story itself is an interesting stand-alone adventure that fits in with the overall arc of Prodigy, touching on several themes upon which the show has focused. Environmentalism, found family, and helping others are explored in ways similar to the show itself, and I was surprised when I heard they were making a middle-grade novelization of the game due out in January — but after playing it, there is definitely enough meat here to make an interesting book. (It could have been a movie, even!) The story is definitely Prodigy through and through, and so are the other aspects of the game. This is a Star Trek: Prodigy game, not just a generic game with a Star Trek skin. My kids remarked that it felt like an episode of the show, and it really did! The character, environment, and object designs were all spot on and lusciously colored to the same palettes as the show. A standout feature is the audio, as not only the gorgeous music from the show fills the background, but the character voices of the entire crew are all here and no one is phoning in their lines. Brett Gray (Dal) and Elle Purnell (Gwyn) in particular are outstanding and add a fun energy to the intriguing story line. There’s a lot of good banter between all the crew members that would fit right in on the show. There are direct references to already-aired episodes, including “Dreamcatcher,” “Kobayashi,” “Time Amok,” and “A Moral Star, Part 2.” My children loved that they knew the lore behind the game. Besides residing deep in the heart of Prodigy, there are some wonderful touches from the greater Star Trek universe as well. References to various species (Xindi!), locations (Rura Penthe!), and substances (Kemocite!) add to the immersive experience. There’s even a little history lesson from Holo-Janeway… about a mission when some older heroes went back in time to find some whales. This made me smile and I made a mental note that it might be time to plan a family movie night to watch Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home together. The actual gameplay itself was very entertaining to both myself and my kids. It consists of levels with mini objectives that contain both puzzle points and combat portions. The puzzles are the correct level of challenging for the age group and they do a great job of utilizing Dal and Gwyn as a team. Each has their own unique abilities, so you have to pick the right person for each job. This makes the two-player co-op mode very satisfying for both players, as both are required at every stage — but you can also enjoy the game in single-player mode, swapping control of one character to another with the touch of a button.

You can play solo as either Dal or Gwyn (and frequently switch off between the two). We both liked this feature, particularly enjoying the times when Dal and Gwyn had to tag team to get access to a new area or accomplish a goal. There is also a co-op mode; Steam players can do this over the internet, while console players can do it locally. But as we were on different systems we didn’t that the chance to check out this feature. Each character has their own unique abilities and tools or weapons, and get more as you play. Dal starts with a phaser and Gwyn has her fretwork spear (the “heirloom” from The Diviner). They also have different abilities: Dal can lift barriers for Gwyn to crawl under and Gwyn can create bridges for Dal to cross over. As they rescue their crewmates, they get to take advantage of their abilities, too, like Jankom’s knack for hacking open doors, Rok-Tahk’s strength, and more. All of this encourages teamwork, which is a nice Star Trek message. Joe (Xbox One): The controls are intuitive from the start. Since there aren’t easy, medium, or hard settings, a kid can feel confident to dive right in. Although not needed for reasons already mentioned, a jump button would’ve been a nice addition. Laurie (PC): The button layout for directional movement was a bit challenging since it used the WASD keys instead of being laid out like the arrow keys with top, bottom, and sides. It required a little more focus just for basic movement, at least at the beginning. This may not be as much of an issue for veteran gamers and/or those with dedicated controllers. Both players: The exploration part is fun: running around exploring, trying switches and power boxes, poking around to see what’s there. The puzzle games require a lot of trial and error, which can get a little frustrating, but that only increases your sense of triumph when you finally figure it out! Laurie: When I felt stuck, I’d go back to the last checkpoint and try again, which was a great strategy that only made it more fun, especially when I conquered a level I thought I couldn’t. Joe: You can go on the holodeck and train/sharpen your skills with a walkthrough which can be really helpful if you want to be efficient. I was able to get through most of the game without switching weapons, which is good for young kids who just want to play. Laurie: I don’t play video games, so I appreciated the slow ramp-up to more weapons and more abilities.

Joe: The mission loading times were really quick—I’m used to waiting at least 30 seconds to move on but Prodigy was almost instantaneous. Well done, Outright Games! Much of the game’s charm relies on your familiarity with the characters from the show — so if you haven’t caught up, you’ll want to do so. In a nutshell, a motley bunch of youngsters led by ‘Captain’ Dal R’El commandeer the USS Protostar (a prototype Starfleet vessel they find mysteriously buried on a planet in the Delta Quadrant) and escape captivity with the help of a holographic version of Captain Janeway, of Voyager fame. This game is set in a mid-season gap and features a mystery centred around a star that’s about to go nova, the evil robot Drednock, and the Protostar-hunting Diviner, who also happens to be the father of Gwyn, one of the stowaways onboard the ship and the character you’ll be playing along with Dal.  Gameplay involves navigating 3D planet-based environments and switching between Gywn and Dal to solve various puzzles blocking your path, typically involving powerlines, switches, blocks, transporters, and more. Along the way, you’ll rescue your other crewmates who return to the Protostar and periodically beam down to unblock your path when you open a channel. Progression is entirely linear, although you can revisit completed stages at any time to pick up items you missed, or ones that require assistance from a crewmember you hadn’t rescued on your first run. Hitting ‘ZL’ activates a pulse from your Tricorder which highlights significant objects and shows the route to your next objective if you need a hand — a great help for younger players, although in practice we almost never used it. Dal and Gywn have different abilities you’ll have to employ in finding puzzle solutions. Dal, for example, can lift heavy objects for Gywn to crawl under and has a Chameleon ability which enables him to sneak past security cameras. Gywn can fire a tendril from her weapon to form a tightrope for Dal to traverse larger gaps they aren’t able to get across with their standard dash abilities. And so on. Drop-in co-op is available for a second player, and single players simply hit ‘A’ to switch between characters as needed. The AI for the one you’re not controlling is relatively intelligent, fighting enemies as required and generally keeping up with you, although you’ll have to switch to perform specific actions. Janeway awards scores and medals at the end of every mission, incentivising some light competition, and completing the game unlocks ‘cheats’ which makes going back to collect missing items and getting that 100% on your save file less of a grind.

Nothing Supernova presents — character abilities, environmental puzzles, upgrades — is revolutionary. If you’ve ever redirected beams of light or pushed blocks in a Zelda dungeon, you’ll have seen everything Supernova has to offer before. However, it’s all assembled cleverly and competently, and the puzzles really pick up in later levels as you start destroying power nodes, transporting light-directing blocks around the place, and encountering temporal ruptures which see each character occupying the same space in different time periods via split-screen. As a game aimed at younger players, there’s nothing impossibly taxing, but we were pleasantly surprised by the depth and ingenuity on display in the latter half. Even if you know absolutely nothing about Prodigy’s story or characters, there’s still fun to be had here. Already within the first two hours of gameplay, we’re teased with a mystery. This storyline engaged me well. It’s the type of story we’d expect in Star Trek: Prodigy. Supernova introduces this idea of “The Watchers” conquering a planet in The Diviner’s name. However, it seems something else might be going on. While the first 2 hours of the story do not give anything away, and I don’t want to spoil it, I’m engaged.

I’ve got to commend the game. It’s introducing us to a new story involving the Prodigy characters. While it seems like we might be done with “The Diviner”, “Drednok”, and “The Watchers” in Star Trek: Prodigy, the game brings them back in a refreshing way. It’s interesting to learn what The Diviner has been doing elsewhere in the galaxy. You know, before he became obsessed with looking for the USS Protostar. As this game is aimed at younger players, the gameplay is kept simple. However, that does not mean it’s limiting or boring. While I keep trying to press “Shift” and accidentally swap characters, that is due to me being used to FPS video games. However, Supernova combines Star Trek worldbuilding with effective gameplay. I’ve got to commend the designers on the maps in-game. Especially the USS Protostar. This is the closest we’ve gotten to walking around a Star Trek hero ship recently. It’s fantastic.

Hearing the Prodigy characters interact is fantastic. Via gameplay, we get commentary that adds to what we know. An example of this is Janeway saying, “I am fangirling”. Now be honest. No one expected Captain Janeway to say that. Well, Hologram Janeway does upon Gwyn’s discovery of libraries. The Star Trek: Prodigy Supernova Game also has a great mission collection system. Players can collect items to display in the Protostar’s captain room. Including Deep Space Nine, The Phoenix warp rocket and Michael Burnham’s time suit. Great references.
