SLUDGE LIFE Free Download Gopcgames.com Jumps you’re sure you can make turn out to be inexplicably unmanageable as you can’t “mantle” the ledge in question. There’s also confusion between which objects can be climbed like ladders and which cannot. It’s irritating, but not a game-killer because the consequences of falling are never critical. Still, making another attempt to climb because it wasn’t clear what was or wasn’t a viable route is more than a little annoying. And, honestly, that’s all we’ve got in terms of major gameplay problems. Besides that hiccup, ambulating around the chilled-out world of Sludge Life is a bit of a joy. It helps that the game’s performance on Switch is marvellous. It’s a smooth 30 frames per second, but for some reason it feels more. We’re not sure if it’s a side-effect of the stylised, fuzzy visuals, but the end result is a game that feels superior to many of the first-person titles we’ve tested on the Switch. Said strong performance is married to a visually striking game, too. As we mentioned, it’s got intentionally ‘sketchy’ and ill-defined edges, which rather deftly side-step your usual “good/bad graphics” argument. Gopcgames.com

Players can also destroy objects in the game world, such as windows, signs, and other structures.

Sludge Life is populated with bizarre characters, each of which have some sort of comment or anecdote that almost always pays off with a nearby sight gag of varying quality and cleverness. It draws you in despite a relatively limited set of interactions, thanks to a world that manages to genuinely feel lived-in and somewhat vibrant. While it’s all a bit grim thanks to in-universe ugliness — mutants, misfits and a predilection for toilet humour — it also feels warm, welcoming and downright cosy at times. It’s just you and your spray can against the world, so to speak, and you’re left to figure out how to reach each of the 100 tagging spots yourself, which feels tremendously liberating. This looseness extends to the game’s treatment of its own tropes. When you stop using an item, you callously hurl it away, where it comes to rest in the game’s world only to respawn in your hands when you need it again. The pause menu brings up a laptop which is then tossed aside, and every use of your camera ends with it being yeeted. It seems to suggest that things are disposable, throwaway, and to some extent that’s very much the case.

These handy teleporters can make backtracking less annoying

The world of Glug is relentlessly corrupt, a seemingly-inescapable world in permanent stasis. If nothing matters, why should your camera? Why should your UI? This review only really scratches the very surface of Sludge Life, because it’s a short game at roughly two hours and to give away its gags is to give away its appeal. But crucially, the appeal is there. While it’s not entirely accurate to describe it as a ‘walking simulator’, it is one of the best atmospheric titles we’ve played, where the stakes are reasonably low and you effectively make your own fun. There were several times during my playthrough of Sludge Life, the “freaky artistic expression simulator” from developer High Hell and publisher Devolver Digital, that I was completely lost. With nothing in the way of overt goals save for a vague checklist on the pause menu, and the strange, hilarious words of the game’s inhabitants to guide you, this is an experience meant to be savoured, not solved. But even with such a strong sense of character and a signature style, does this game do enough to justify a purchase? Let’s wade into the sludge and see. FAIRY TAIL

There’s no way to summarise Sludge Life that does it justice, but as its simplest, you play as a graffiti artist called GHOST who explores a weird island in the middle of a sludge-filled planet. As you explore the island After spending a few frantic minutes trying to figure out exactly what I was meant to be doing, I bumbled into a few characters and conversations, tagged some buildings, found a snail, and then realised there wasn’t any rush to really do anything. I was having more fun simply exploring the sludge-laden wastelands and bumping into the many weird characters and scenarios on offer. While there really isn’t much in the way direction however, there are still plenty of things to find as you explore. in first person, you’ll quickly notice the title’s simplistic, polygonal 3D art style and strong character designs, all brought together with a heavy VHS effect overlay that makes this title feel nostalgic for old skateboarding tapes and home movies. With no strong instructions and no obvious markers, it really is up to you to explore as you see fit, and this is when the magic of Sludge Life comes together.

Take photos of exotic fauna and ambivalent NPCs

Sludge Life is brimming with weird characters, in a very particular visual style, each with irreverent and interesting dialogue that constantly made me laugh. With fart gags, drug use, musings on capitalist society, and pondering on the meaning of life, the world of Sludge Life is a mature one, and the topics of discussion even more. From the very beginning you’ll also discover that, as well as being able to pee in any urinal you find, you’ll also be able to smoke cigarettes, take mushrooms, and discover some other heinous undercurrents to the world. It’s a strange psychedelic mixture of overtly mature jokes in this visual style, but it works together and only accentuates the funnier parts of the title. To actually try and play Sludge Life, you’ll be using a camera to scope out tagging spots to hit with your graffiti emblem, and trying your best to climb and break your way into hidden areas. There’s a huge amount of areas to spot, with rewards along the way for particular milestones. You even unlock different items that help with traversal, even if it all feels quite clumsy. Sludge Life isn’t a competent platformer, especially when it’s entirely first-person, but it’s serviceable enough for the aims of the game. Falcon Age Switch NSP

The later items that open things up make it a breeze to explore and get those more hidden graffiti spots, as well as plenty of warp locations. The game sadly doesn’t do much to separate the different areas in visual style, but there’s still some really interesting corners to discover and I don’t think I’ve seen anywhere near all there is in this rich game, despite it being a fairly small map. Alongside the arresting visual style is an absolute KILLER soundtrack, I mean I can’t stress enough how great it was and how much it enriched my time. I found myself getting into the spirit of literally just hanging out, taking my time to chill with different characters and enjoy the diegetic music playing out of various devices jotted around. Its lofi, synthwave beats really helped to perfectly meld the visuals and dialogue to bring this surreal world into a realistic and charming clarity. Seriously, this world feels like a real place full of lived experience and all the gross problems and weird people a small town often includes. It could be over in minutes if you know what you’re doing, but it’s such an interesting game I can’t recommend enough you take your time and discover every item, collectable, hidden corner and NPC for yourself.

Three distinct endings and a pretty robust credits

There are even strange rewards to be found including mini-games and apps for your laptop. It’s truly a ride. The only thing marring my experience was some technical issues, particularly in handheld. The graphical fidelity seemed to dip and there were some real issues with pop-in as well. I can’t say it marred the experience as it’s a slow and dialogue-driven game, but it was noticeable and worth mentioning. Sludge Life is a weird, slow and often confusing game, but it also has the strongest style in any game I’ve played this year. Between the distinct visuals, outstanding soundtrack and the countless weird characters you can meet, though, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, Sludge Life is a one of a kind experience and a world I won’t forget. To say Sludge Life is incredibly strange is probably the understatement of the century. But it’s a good enough starting place to talk about it. Sludge Life takes pride in being absurd, offensive and even mind boggling. The game takes place in a world overrun by hideous sludge and corporate greed. Inhabitants mostly seem resigned to it, and try finding what fleeting joy they can in this decrepit society. Fallen Angel Switch NSP

The game features various puzzles and challenges that players must solve to progress through the story.

You play one of those inhabitants, a tagger named Ghost. I’d almost call the setting post-apocalyptic, but it’s actually a vision of late-term capitalism. There’s not a lot of direct storytelling, so it can be hard to be certain. What story beats there are all come from things you glean from individual conversations NPCs. These are just one off, and not evolving discussion trees. More often, you hear about how they hate pigeons or use sketchy yet powerful science to make abominations. That said, there are a lot of citizens to talk to, and put together they start to flavor your perceptions. Honestly, what you’ll get from Sludge Life is directly proportional to how much you get invested in the game. While Sludge Life can be beaten in a couple hours, your playtime may vary. For one thing, there’s no map in the game to help direct your adventure. For another, the game doesn’t really explain anything other than the very basic controls. And as someone that quickly became frustrated with Nintendo darling Breath of the Wild for similar reasons, I found this problematic. Your main goal is to tag various structures with graffiti.

I wish this was something you had direct control over, like in Vandals, but it’s more about reaching predetermined spots and automatically tagging things with your trademark spectral signature. As you explore, you’ll also come across a handful of items to expand your possibilities. The ones I most enjoyed using were the camera and hang glider. Then there’s something called Vandal Eyes. The camera is handy since it lets you scope out distant tagging locations as well as taking photos. The hang glider is a life saver, letting you reach some of the lofty summits the game requires. And the Vandal Eyes? That item is essentially two eyeballs in a jar you can throw. At first it seemed they didn’t have any purpose. I actually had to look at an online guide to ascertain their function, which isn’t something I like doing in games. As it turns out, the sneaky eyeballs reveal places you can tag if you hold them aloft. Whereas I had tried repeatedly to use them as blunt objects, hoping they might open doors or something. They’re a great example of the meandering yet structured nature of Sludge Life. Besides the more constructive activities I mentioned, you also have other objectives you can accomplish.
