SimplePlanes Free Download Unfitgirl A flight simulator and construction kit in the Kerbal Space Program genre — minus the adorable presentation and depth — SimplePlanes allows the user to construct a near infinite number of real and fantasy winged aircraft, not to mention helicopters, tanks and dragons. Of course, slapping together fanciful or awesome looking planes is one thing and getting them to actually take off, fly, and land is another, much more daunting challenge altogether, requiring a good, basic understanding of aerodynamics and flight physics. While the game has a series of short tutorial missions designed to introduce the player to the most basic aspects of aircraft control, bombing, dogfighting and effect of components and weight on performance, the majority of instruction is non-interactive and will come from pouring over the manual. The heart of SimplePlanes is the construction set, and it’s both flexible and a bit frustrating to use. There are a huge number of Lego-like components — engines, wings, landing gear, fuel tanks, bombs, etc — but the way the camera and assembly window function make aligning parts more of a challenge than it should be. It’s far too easy to think you’ve attached a wing to the fuselage at just the right point only to change the viewing angle and realize it’s floating in mid-air and not attached at all. This happens continually. There is a mirror function that takes some frustration away from trying to make each side of the plane symmetric. Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

However, there is no real “assembly guide” and the game is just as happy to let you toss together some random, non-functional combinations as it is to have you build a genuinely successful aircraft. If you prefer to test out the products that the SimplePlanes community has uploaded — and there are thousands of them — it’s easy to search the archives by popularity, aircraft type, or date, and these can be quickly downloaded and added to your library of planes and test flown. Of course you can add your creations to the community as well. When flying, aerodynamics are forgiving, and on the simple side compared to a “real” flight sim but certainly function well enough to allow testing of your prototypes. Two control schemes are available: keyboard or joystick, and it seems odd not to include gamepad control as well considering the simplified controls. There have been some complaints about the way the controls map to a joystick but they work well enough with keyboard, especially given that most of the flights are very short. Certainly, no one would expect lavish visuals of an iOS game, but the PC version of SimplePlanes appears to have changed little from its mobile presentation. There is only one small island map and the ocean around it, neither of which look especially great. The aircraft themselves don’t fare well, either, looking blocky and unrealistic.

DYNAMIC FLIGHT MODEL

Altogether, it’s disappointing that more effort was not put into distinguishing the PC version of SimplePlanes from its mobile predecessor. Look, I’m gonna be straight okay. I took this game because my boss thought it would be hilarious if I did. Let’s just say that intricately building planes and flying them is not my idea of a good time, so accepting his challenge (and the game) filled me with sudden and even instant regret. I mean, I got pretty excited by the initial music which sounded like something Kings of Leon might have made but sans southern-drawling vocals. My face then kinda made a u-turn, an upside down one after being confronted with what is probably the most extensive tutorial I’ve ever seen. So of course I skipped through all of it. This was an unwise decision. How hard can it be to build and fly a plane, I thought. Turns out, like really, really hard. So my first advice would be, do not skip the tutorial. I went back, like a good game reviewer should and started the tutorial. You’re probably gonna be spending at least an hour reading that bad boy. The main issue I found was remembering what all the technical jargon meant, honestly it was tougher than remembering the names of all the people in any given Game of Thrones episode. If you have some kind of plane simulator experience, or have seen Top Gun one too many times then you’ll be a fair few steps ahead of me in the comprehension department. It is impressive though, there’s some serious detail that’s gone into the game. You can customise pretty much everything and anything, and there are some really well thought out tools to help you realise the flight-capable machine of your dreams/nightmares. Want your plane wholly symmetrical? Build one side and use the mirror tool to magic in the perfect other side. Want a total mish-mash of random parts with no hope of ever being airborne to throw into the sky and hope for the best? You can do that too. And if you’re more into the flying simulation side of things, and aren’t really fussed about building the damn things, then get ye to Steam Workshop because there’s only about a million available for you to download. Come on, why not leave the crafting to the experts, unless you of course are an expert too. Are you? It’s okay because the actual flying bit once you have a plane is a LOT easier. I mean there’s still five tutorial bits to get through before you’ll know what you’re doing, but it’s definitely easier. Of course having not gone through the instructionals (I’m excited that’s a word) initially meant that I may have crashed many, many times. Right, it’s time for a confession. So recently I have discovered something about myself which had a genuine impact on my enjoyment of this game (other than skipping the tutorial and not wanting to play it in the first place).

BUILD AIRPLANES

So I’ve been playing a lot of The Witcher 3 and there’s a lot of points where you’ll need to swim out into the ocean and dive down to collect stuff. Sounds simple right? WRONG! Turns out I am terrified of the open sea. Like, literally petrified of graphically-created water. So how is this relevant for SimplePlanes? Well turns out a lot of the flying you do is over endless, infinite, horrifying sea. And when you’re not very good at flying, well I’ll let you do the maths there. I guess it worked in my favour in this case because I had to play the game to review it so I found myself quickly picking up how to keep myself airborne, or at least how to crash on land rather than liquid. Turns out the controls are fairly simple when you go back and actually do the tutorial. Okay, so by this point it’s probably obvious that this game is not the one for me, not by any stretch of the imagination and it will, no doubt stay untouched in my Steam account from here on out. However I would be a fool if I didn’t acknowledge how great this game is for people who might enjoy this genre. I imagine the thrill of getting a machine you’ve spent hours on perfecting into the sky is quite satisfactory, and the replay value is crazy due to the sheer amount of crafting possibilities. It’s a well made game, the graphics are good, the flying is easy to get to grips with and the tutorial is exceptionally helpful if you just give it a chance. Dead Space

I highly recommend checking out Steam Workshop because that adds even more to an already jam-packed offering. Nice work, Jundroo. I may not have enjoyed it, but I have to give it a high score. SimplePlanes is a title that makes building and flying planes easier than ever. Probably. Don’t be fooled by the title though — even though it’s easier than ever, the planes are hard to design and almost half of the content isn’t about them at all… In addition to a robust plane-building tool there’s a singleplayer campaign with a variety of missions in three categories — racing, combat, and challenges. It’s brief, but being able to dogfight against enemies with a freshly-made DIY plane is something else. There’s also an sandbox mode allowing players to test their vehicles inside a giant map and an official multiplayer mod, although guns do no damage to other players, effectively nullifying the most needed function of multiplayer, i.e. — shooting each other out of the sky. Looking at the mechanics of building a plane, the tool looks voxel-based, but that’s not true. The main body of vehicles can be made out of procedural parts which can be freely resized and reshaped to the player’s liking, and will have their physics parameters changed accordingly. There’s also many functional parts to choose from — in addition to the pieces one would expect a plane to require, there are car wheels, shock absorbers, and various engines.

SANDBOX

With this tool players have created not only planes but helicopters, cars, boats, submarines, rockets, starships, UFOs, and flying toasters — this list just scratches the surface of what’s possible. The learning curve of building is great. The tutorials are simple and to-the-point when explaining the fundamentals, and making something that flies is easy — a fairly experienced player can do so in around half an hour without too much fiddling around. However, it’s hard to squeeze the full potential out of the physics engine, and just by tweaking a few parameters, a vehicle’s performance can improve by a significant amount. The base game also accepts a wide range of parameters stored in the craft files themselves, including the size, mass, drag, and collision of parts. Test flights for changes are easy to do, and troubleshooting is simplified with data provided by the game. For those who focus less on performance and more on cosmetics, parts can be colored with a lot of freedom. All of these parameters can be modified and then loaded into an unmodded game client when using a mod to assist the building process, usually called “XML modding” by the community. However, the balance of SimplePlanes is easily upset because players can freely change parameters to make overpowered vehicles to be used in missions without any penalty. XML modding aside, procedural parts in SimplePlanes combined with an ingame position tuner gives great flexibility in builds, even when no mods are installed at all. However, the limitations are that procedural parts generally feel too elastic and stretchy in flight, and not being able to rebind controls freely is a major pain. Speaking of which, this is one of the biggest complaints I have about SimplePlanes — the controller inputs aren’t as flexible as the building. There are several hard-coded input controllers that players can assign keys to in the settings, and players can then set certain parts to react and function as they should. The upside is that most of the creations feature the exact same control scheme, but the downside is that players run out of controller schemes to choose from when building specialized vehicles. In a game like this, the physics are of utmost importance, and in this respect, SimplePlanes is impressive. There are no lag issues even on potato PCs, so long as the video quality is adjusted, and if the part count is kept reasonable then the physics feel realistic. There are a handful of things that don’t handle well, though. For example, the stall physics for wings are very very broken, and players generally rely on mods to make realistic modern jets able to perform fancy post-stall maneuvers. The water physics are also not optimal, and I had some major lag spikes with the desert island for no apparent reason.

Physics is fleshed out and rewarding in SimplePlanes, with the tutorial giving you a few basic lessons on aeronautical theory before letting you loose on an example aeroplane. Ultimately the onus is totally on the player to create a craft that has enough balance, propulsion and manoeuvrability to get it going, or else you’ll find that your beautiful and intricate creation will simply flip over and explode several times. The first time this happened I was incensed with rage, but then I realised that hey this is kinda the point of the game – you design, trial that design and then move on to perfect it. Once you’re actually up in the sky there isn’t really much to do. You can however, launch into race or dogfight mode with the planes you’ve built, giving the player a chance to see how their craft performs in an actual challenge. SimplePlanes’ developers Jundroo LLC are offering up prizes to those who can achieve fastest times in races competitively. By the way if you get fed up of failing at vehicle design, there are supposedly over 100,000 airplanes for download from the SimplePlanes website – pretty mental. They’re definitely worth checking out as you’ve got everything from faithful recreations of the B-52 bomber, to entirely player designed concept crafts.
