Severed Steel Switch NSP Free Download Unfitgirl Following movies like The Raid and John Wick, the genre of ‘solo badass fighting endless amounts of enemies’ has skyrocketed in popularity. Almost parallel to that style of film, the genre has also become prevalent in games thanks to the likes of Sifu and Superhot with their intense trial and error gameplay; where one mistake means death. Severed Steel has arrived with a bang to take its place among the greats of the genre. Making its console debut after launching on PC last year, Severed Steel places you in the shoes of Steel, who wakes up in a mysterious place with her left arm missing. There’s not much overt story, it’s told through silent, hand-drawn cutscenes and through each level’s objectives like FIND THE CEO or simply, KILL THEM ALL flashing up on the screen at the beginning. The minimalist storyline isn’t too much of a problem because the real meat of Severed Steel is the gameplay. You’ll fight through 42 stages, with goals ranging from finding specific elements in the stage to surviving waves of enemies. Stages are short and sweet affairs; however, this is balanced through difficulty. The aforementioned do-or-die gameplay of titles like Hotline Miami shines on in Severed Steel. Enemies are relentless, really challenging you to think about what routes to take through every level. Severed Steel’s stunt’ system consists of dives, wall runs, and slides. Enemies can’t hurt you while you stunt on them, which incentivises you to experiment. However, it’s pretty hard to fly all over the place and shoot accurately. That’s where slow-motion comes in; a press of ‘ZL’ slows time. Killing enemies replenishes your slow-mo and luck (health) meters, and slow motion will remain active as long as you’re performing stunts — even if the meter has run out. This is a fantastic design choice as it really encourages you to keep on the move and to keep blasting at all times. Due to your missing appendage, you’re unable to reload your guns, which means you have to take a page out of John Wick’s book and just throw your gun at an enemy and steal theirs. You need to quickly adapt to every situation to make it out alive. You eventually get a prosthetic arm cannon which grants you destructive abilities like blasting holes in any of the walls of the fully destructible voxel environments. The game runs near-flawlessly on Switch aside from a few levels near the end (that being said, you’ll be in slo-mo for the majority of the game anyway). However, the two biggest issues with the game rear their heads here. Games like this typically have near instantaneous restarts to ensure the action is always moving. Severed Steel’s load times aren’t obnoxiously long by any means, but just long enough to add to the frustration of losses.

Fully Destructible Environment

The other (and biggest) issue is the complete lack of gyro-aiming, which — especially for a game this fast-paced — feels like a large oversight. But still, we’re talking about a game where you can throw your gun at someone, slo-mo, dive over their head, steal another from their back pocket, then blast them with it. Which is pretty rad. Taking inspiration from the likes of Superhot and Ghostrunner, Severed Steel sees you clear multiple levels of enemies at an extremely fast pace alongside a thumping soundtrack, with the titular Steel, a woman with one arm, only able to withstand a few hits before dying. the key weapon in your arsenal is the ability to slow down time as you rack up kills with a variety of weapons. That and the game’s parkour, which will see you chaining together moves to stay mobile. Movement is a key focus during the game, and it does take a few levels to get to grips with. While similar games of this type also place a strong emphasis on mobility, Severed Steel takes it up a gear by making it the key method of preventing immediate death. Wall runs, slides and dives are the most effective ways to get around, and bullets can’t hit you while performing these moves. The fast pace does take a little getting used to, but combining parkour with headshots is immensely satisfying when it all clicks, as is leaping into a dive after finishing a slide, continuing your momentum. Slowing down time also aids you in the ability to pull off these chained moves, with a hold of L2 enabling you to line up a tricky shot, or perform a somersault over an unsuspecting enemy before shooting him in the back of the head. It also allows you a welcome breather from the chaos to assess the situation, and choose the next direction to sprint in. It is too easy to rely on this though, as while the slow-motion mechanic is tied to a cooldown meter, you can use it continuously for far too long, reducing the element of danger. Higher difficulties do balance this a little better, not allowing the killing of enemies to replenish the meter. Weapons feel satisfying to use, and there are a variety to pick up throughout the game. Even small pistols pack a punch, and some of the heavier guns are capable of blowing enemies apart in a visceral display of voxel violence. Sadly this isn’t translated through the PS5’s DualSense controller though, with no haptic feedback or adaptive trigger support. Providing you aren’t already carrying one, the protagonist picks up new guns automatically when you run over them, and steals sidearms from enemies’ holsters if you parkour your way close to one empty-handed, a neat addition. Around halfway through Severed Steel, Steel acquires an arm cannon replacing her lost limb, used primarily to blast holes in walls to access different rooms and groups of enemies far quicker than before.

Firefight Mode

It adds another element to proceedings and takes advantage of the destructible environments found in the game, aiding traversal as well as exposing hidden enemies. The result of getting to grips with the abilities at your disposal is a feeling of immense power, but the levels themselves still help provide something new to adapt to, especially later in the game. Level design overall is excellent, with each one giving you a playground to parkour your way around, complete with small openings to slide under and windows to leap through while avoiding gunfire. Notable locations include a train, office building and even a hedge maze, with later levels focusing on more expansive arenas filled with enemies. For the large amount of enemies and locations seen in the game though, there is only one real boss fight, a missed opportunity to further test the skills of the player. With such a focus on level design and the various mechanics aimed in giving the player a fulfilling experience, it is perhaps no surprise that the story is lacking. Finishing each of the six chapters results in a series of stylised cutscenes playing, but they are extremely vague and can be easily ignored. Games of this type rightly play to their strengths and prioritise the moment-to-moment action, but a little more story here could better tie together the large number of disconnected levels. One of Severed Steel’s biggest positives is its simplicity, particularly through its visual presentation. The heavy use of neon can be overwhelming at first despite a limited colour palette, though the minimalistic voxel art style gives the game a smoothness that helps you adjust quickly. Visual cues are also executed extremely well. Neon lines appear in front of you as you wall run, indicating that you are indeed attached to a surface, while blinking lights on each weapon glow blue when you have full ammo, and yellow as that ammo is gradually depleted. Ammo amounts and your slow-motion cooldown bar are also smartly located around your aiming reticule, minimising the need to look around the screen for such information. Superhot-style text appears on screen at the start of each level, briefing you on the mission in just a few words. Words also flash up on-screen when you get a headshot or triple kill, while a pop sound that occurs when killing an enemy represents a satisfying audio cue.The main campaign is disappointingly short, lasting around 4 hours, but there are reasons to play beyond the credits. New Game + is present, as well as Firefight mode, a compelling challenge mode where you can select a weapon, arm cannon loadout and various mutators that enhance the experience and affect your score multiplier.

A Unique Fighter

You unlock more of each of these as you progress through each stage, increasing your level with your score. There are also five difficulty settings and extensive accessibility options including full remapping of the Dualsense controller, as well as various toggles to make the game both easier and more difficult. These settings offer ways to change your experience if you want to replay the game again, also helping to offset the short length. It is also worth noting that performance on PS5 is strong, and I experienced no frame drops or glitches during my playthrough. Severed Steel might not be a long game and it has its problems, but it is ultimately a tightly focused and extremely satisfying experience. Images of SUPERHOT immediately come to mind when you begin in Severed Steel. There are various, themed levels all unique from one another, but they aren’t overly large and feel like arenas for your mayhem. Words pop on the screen telling you to “kill everyone” or fulfill some other sort of objective, like burning down an entire house with a flamethrower (which is, by the way, very fun). Other than that, there’s really no story to speak of; rather, Severed Steel is all about shooting. Severed Steel excels in its movement, which is at the core of its gameplay. Sliding, wall running, and diving forward or backward isn’t just to look cool or traverse the environments in this shooter. Hellsplit: Arena

It’s necessary to move in such a way because as long as you’re doing any of the aforementioned actions, bullets cannot hurt you. If you run around on foot taking out enemies like some foot soldier in Call of Duty, you’ll get torn to shreds in seconds. It feels incredible to enact these parkour moves, all the while shooting at enemies that can sometimes number in the dozens. You feel invincible at times, even though you yourself are quite vulnerable to gunfire. As long as you don’t stop, you’ll be just fine. And believe me, sliding and jumping around feels so good too. There are so many different ways to move around that one might think it becomes difficult to keep track of everything, but I never felt that to be the case at all. The second vital component to Severed Steel’s fulfilling gameplay is the use of slow motion. You can go very fast in Severed Steel, and as such that makes it a bit more difficult to aim. To facilitate your efforts, slow motion allows you to aim properly and make the kills you need. While slow motion does, yes, slow the game world down, it doesn’t actually make Severed Feel like a sluggish shooter. It’s difficult to explain, but think of SUPERHOT: time moves only when you do, yet everything feels like a rush at the same time.To aid in your efforts, you’ll be equipped with a multitude of guns. There’s a shockingly good variety of weapons in Severed Steel.

There are pistols of all kinds, my favorite being a Desert Eagle doppelganger that has a lot of oomph to it. Several shotguns can be equipped, as well as submachine guns and assault rifles, too. All of these are taken from the corpses of your enemies. Ammo also runs out fast in Severed Steel, and not every enemy has the same weapon. As such, players get to experience a wide range of weapons that helps the gameplay stay fresh. Unfortunately, the campaign is exceedingly short. I was able to beat it in roughly two hours over two sittings, but I definitely could have finished it in one sitting if I wanted to. There’s a second mode called Firefight which adds just a little bit to the playtime. Firefight has players kill all the enemies in a level while racking up as many points as possible. There are bonus objectives to gain more points, too, like getting two kills in a single dive. You’ll level up your firefight rank and unlock more weapons and levels to start with, as well as neat modifiers. Modifiers could be anything from making the lighting of levels to be spookier or even unlimited ammo. It’s fun to fiddle around with these levels and unlock everything, but in total it still took me around 2 hours to complete everything. Overall, Severed Steel is extremely brief. I salivate at the thought of more content, but there’s not a lot to go back to at the moment.
