rFactor 2 Free Download Unfitgirl rFactor 2 has always been held up as one of the most realistic racing simulations in the world, if not the most realistic one of all. It boasts a loyal fanbase, an in-depth physics engine with stellar force feedback, and a thriving modding community. However, does all this make it a worthwhile pick up in 2022? After all, the game is now nine years old. Join ChampionJoe as he gives his honest, and perhaps surprising, review of rFactor 2. Recently, rFactor 2 received a significant update which improve the interface and in-game menus. Confusing, ugly and cluttered menus that used to be a feature of the game are all gone now, and the sleek redesign works wonders for the game’s overall usability. So this new aspect of the game get’s Joe’s thumbs up. Obviously, the driving itself is very high quality – the game isn’t considered to be one of the best simulations on the market for no reason! However, is it enough for a sim racing game to simply have the best physics and force feedback systems? Where the game excels in driving feel, it lacks in driving content. The total absence of any sort of a career mode or custom championships in singleplayer can lead to a somewhat empty experience. For those who just love to drive, this isn’t a big issue, but for those who crave competition it is certainly a drawback. When it comes to multiplayer things aren’t much better. There are no safety or skill ratings, and anyone can enter any race, provided they have the necessary DLC for it. So, does this lack of game modes mean that rFactor 2 isn’t worth it in 2022? Watch our latest video to find out!Reviewing things is a pain. Someone will inevitably disagree in a quite an animated fashion. With the new UI and updates to the competition system it seemed time for someone to give an updated opinion. Full disclosure, AMS2 is my favorite overall sim and I spend quite a bit of time in iRacing with iRFFB so as much as I’m trying to be objective I’m also not in pressing need of another sim to invest time and money in. It says something about simracing that a new UI being released for an aging game can cause as much discussion as the new rF2 UI did. It’s only worth writing this because it was so bad before. I wouldn’t call the new UI amazing. Functional is the best way to describe it. With as many toggles as it has it seems like a visual representation of a config file. Really though, it does what it needs to do without getting in the way and that’s really all I care about. One huge thing that should be said is the new UI is so much faster than the old one. Track load times are acceptable. Props to S397 for fixing the biggest user experience issues that kept people from even getting on track. The graphics on a flat screen do look a bit dated at this point. A big issue is there just isn’t enough light in the world.

Advanced physics engine

VR is surprisingly good though. I did fine on medium with an RTX 2060 Super and post processing turned off. I could probably turn some things up with some tinkering, but it’s at least on par with iRacing’s VR in my opinion. As a sidenote, turn off head movement in VR. It’s under the controller settings section for some reason (I couldn’t find it for a bit). The sound is not great at all. The fidelity is lacking even on the new IR18 IndyCar, and it comes off as a bit flat. On some cars it did capture the “edges” of the rev range where the engine was under strain with some pep, but overall it doesn’t express the “passion” of racing like RaceRoom, ACC, or even AMS2. There are others far better than me to comment on the physics, and endless forums to boot. The comments I have are that the FFB is very immersive, and that I generally feel like I know what the car is doing. The second point is quite surprising to me because I use a lower end wheel and generally don’t like FFB that doesn’t have rear end telemetry added to the FFB. There are still open questions about physics exploits that allow setups using detached roll bars and lowest possible tire pressures. These setups are said to allow downforce (and drag) to be reduced in exchange for higher tire temps. These higher temps are then said not to harm tires in a meaningful enough manner to discourage the practice. Batman: Arkham Origins

Until I hear otherwise I would refer you to this video by a former rF2 mega-fan. For offline play this isn’t really an issue because you can just not use those setups. For online play I think there is also a certain level where it isn’t a huge issue. Approaching eSports and serious league level it probably becomes much more of an issue. It would be really nice to see the devs address it. When I first decided to give rF2 a proper review I wanted to do 5 offline races and 5 online races across different cars and tracks. It took a few more than that to actually understand the AI. In short it’s lacking and unpredictable. There were some high moments. Pato 0’Ward absolutely sending it up the inside of the first turn after the chicane at Portland was one. It was an absolutely brilliant and clean move and caught me well off guard. Then there were the two races in a row where the AI decided to get into a massive pileup in the S curves before the last corner at the same track. You can’t pass there at full speed. There was also the car pulling out of the garage in qualifying directly into the side of me. Then he decided to try and pass in the pit exit and ran into the wall. My biggest complaint is how the AI take apex’s. It’s like they are trying to back up the driver behind them by slowing too much on the apex. Then they take off way faster than I can so the rhythm of technical sections was very strange. Lastly, they mover under braking a lot.

Driving Experience

It’s decent and has a lot of potential. S397 recently announced that their competition system will be going to a seasons format. It is very similar to iRacing in practice. They are still lacking a safety or rating system though which is quite needed. The biggest complaint about the competition system is that as of this writing you most own every car and track in a series to participate in it. In the past they claimed this was to encourage commitment to a series. I think we can all see a cash grab though unless it’s a shortcoming of the content management ability of the sim. In either case either fix it or get rid of it. The racing itself was decent. It’s hard to comment on grid sizes right now because they just announced the new seasons format. Before that announcement I had much better luck finding an 8 or so car grid on weekends in 3 or 4 attempts. During the week it was a struggle during US evening time. I do have to make a comment about rain. During one sessions it started raining during the qualifying session which was cool. The problem was it didn’t show the track state so I didn’t know if I should take slicks or wets for the race. I chose wrong. My guess is it carries the track state from the end of quali, but I couldn’t find out for sure with a reasonable effort on google. This game is not easy, at all. Do not let that put you off because if you work at it and play it for a while you will find yourself getting better, overtaking people instead of been overtook yourself and it’s a sense of self achievement few racers give you now days. Of course the driving aids are there until you manage to get used to the controls and that’s the first thing I’m going to mention. I found the controls on my Xbox 360 Afterglow controller really sensitive. Luckily this was easily sorted and there are many sensitivity options to tweak getting the perfect balance of steering and power. I found I didn’t have nearly as much as a problem with my steering wheel though This is one of those games that you have to master each individual track and car all control differently and you will find with some cars you can get on the power mid corner others you will find yourself facing the other way due to losing traction. Once I got the hang of this I loved every moment of the actually racing the AI is amazing really competitive. I often found myself in a dual with another racer and the sound of the engines is that good I could hear how close he was just by the sound without looking in my mirrors at all. The AI does make odd mistakes too, a few starts of the line a car would stall causing absolute chaos. Some of the replays I got of the crashes are incredible.

Engine boost and Turbo modeling

Damage physics in this game are too great, some of the best I’ve seen in a racing game period. Smashing into a wall at full pelt with full damage on and you are done your race is over. All I can say is thank goodness for the restart race option. It’s impossible to mention all the cars in this game there’s just too many of them, there is tons and tons of series all with different cars ranging from classic to modern Formula 1 cars. All have different styles of driving some faster than others but what I found was they all offered something that was fun once I got to grips with how they handled. This is one of those games you can think you know what I’m going to race a Go kart because I can. Graphics hold up incredibly well too I had little to no slowdown and the game looks stunning. Replays at times look photo realistic. Marshalls are present when there’s yellow blue or black flags been waved and the safety car also comes out if need be putting everything to a halt and throwing all strategies out of the window. The formation lap is even present with the option to skip straight to the race but who would want to do that? Rfactor2 does everything and anything you have every wanted a racing game to do. Online was a bit if a hit and miss. I found out while playing there are actual leagues for Rfactor2 and these are taken incredibly seriously. Accidents are penalised with penalties and the racing standard is insanely good. Beat Saber

Don’t get me wrong you can find games with players equal to your level just don’t expect them to stay on the track long that’s all. I had a few fun games Online but found the majority do not want you to join unless you’re a seasoned pro, which I am definitely not still the option to add AI bots is a most welcome one. Customization is rFactor 2’s strongest point. The community has filled the Steam workshop with new tracks, cars and tournaments to play. On the net I even found more cars and tracks ready to download put into the game. You can even change the graphics too including the UI and menu graphics. Rfactor2 utilizes what the PC does best modification and it welcomes it with open arms. If you have ever wanted to race on any track period, this game will make your dreams come true It’s the closest you can get to driving a real car I highly recommend a steering wheel Although I did use both my gamepad and my steering wheel I found the steering wheel felt a lot more comfortable and natural Just like a real life car you have to ease the pedal with your foot putting your foot straight down while send you for a nice spin. You do have the choice of manual or auto gears using a gear stick with the game is just too satisfying to pass up though, you can literally hear the gear change headphones are a must for this trust me you will not regret it.

rFactor 2 remains far from finished, but it’s now officially available for retail purchase (thus the review). This highly anticipated sequel to 2005’s rFactor has carried a “work in progress” beta tag since 2011, but ISI recently decided to remove that label and sell it for $44. That price gets you get the complete game plus one year of online multiplayer ($12 per year thereafter, or you can buy an $85 version that comes with a lifetime subscription). Unfinished or not, there’s quite a bit of meat to rFactor2 despite its woeful lack of presentation and side dishes. Vehicle selection isn’t huge, but there’s an interesting cross section of classes, including modern sedans and GT cars (Renault Megane and Clio, Nissan 370Z and GT-R, Chevrolet Corvette C.6R); modern formula cars (Skip Barber 2000, Formula Renault, Williams F2, and a generic F1 machine); as well as some vintage open-wheel 1966 to 1968 F1, F2, and F3 racers. Each machine boasts its own unique driving dynamics, and mastering them demands time and patience, but I found my efforts rewarded. There’s a wonderful liveliness to the driving model that both challenges and entertains. Solid physics are the cornerstone of any quality racing simulation, and rFactor2 handily delivers the goods here. Cars behave realistically and predictably — a ’68 F1 machine on treaded bias-ply tires isn’t going to brake or corner on par with a modern single-seater — and each racing class provides a distinct and singular driving experience that’ll absolutely delight wheel and pedal-equipped gamers.
