Of course, the similarities with The Last of Us are uncanny, but did they just cheaply rip off a beloved game, or is Potentia actually good? The world of Potentia is one completely destroyed by a highly energetic weapon. As is often the case in games like this, society completely collapses and nature takes back, what was previously taken from her. Sounds very familiar already. Main character Victor is separated from his wife and wants nothing more than to find her. If you consider the looks of Victor and his wife Anna it feels like watching those weird Bollywood rip-offs. It happens in the gaming world that sometimes developers feel inspired by other classic or modern games. Potentia seems to take all the ideas that worked in sagas like Uncharted and The Last of Us; but without the same taste. The problem of the lack of originality is not something that can subtract points in its argument, but Potentia has some cutscenes or cinematics with dialogue so poorly acted that more than once I was tempted to skip them. In addition, there are several situations that have no correlation with what the protagonist is going through. And not to mention that the lack of charisma makes it impossible to have any kind of empathy with Victor Without a doubt, the Turkish studio Wily Pumpkin Studios takes much of its playable style and setting from the famous Naughty Dog game, The Last of Us . But without wanting to criticize either of the two franchises; we had already seen these ideas in older games, movies and books.

Potentia divides the option of playing quite well in two ways: at close range shots or with complete stealth. Depending on the difficulty, facing several soldiers will completely use up our arsenal of bullets. There are several cartridges scattered on the maps but not enough to believe that we have infinite bullets. On the other hand, stealth is a good option. We can attack enemies from behind or even shoot an arrow at them or use a pistol with a silencer. The problem is that some distances can be long to do on the sly and we end up walking or running alerting an enemy. We cannot take shelter against a wall, we can only crouch down and try not to be seen. We don’t jump but we can climb to certain parts of the stage (yes, those places that the game allows us). These limitations make Victor’s movements a bit clunky and take away from a lot of realism. The enemies are quite generic, there are those who attack up close with a knife, others with pistols, grenades, shotguns and machine guns. There are also some with bulletproof vests, although I don’t see the point since if we shoot them in the head they don’t die and continue as if nothing happened. Their standard of living is quite arbitrary. There are a total of eight chapters, quite different from each other and that ultimately does not tire the player. The atmosphere and the design of the scenarios is the best that Potentia offers ; especially if we think of it as an indie game. There’s a lot of shadow work and lighting as we walk in and out of a dark building onto a light street. From the sound, there is nothing to reproach him. The world we travel through is full of life, especially the wooded areas where we hear the fauna turning. Ongoing cold war was about to end. Both sides declared that they would no longer continue pursuing the war effort. That night, everyone was on the streets. People were celebrating the end of the war. The entire city was like a party zone. One of our friends was throwing a party at his home. My wife Anna and I were going to meet at the metro station to join our friends later that night. Eh, what can I say. We were all happy. As it turns out, our happiness wouldn’t last long. And our hopes for peace would vanish with the majority of the people around us. Everything was lost in less than a second. An unknown energy weapon hit the city. No one knows the true extent of the damage caused by it, if it was contained to just one city, country, or the entire planet.  Buildings and Infrastructure are left intact. Animals and plants are unharmed. However, people… Many of them just disappeared.

Now, no one answers our radio transmissions. No one comes to our aid. Everyone just seems to be vanished. No one is around other than some hostile savages. After the attack so few of us survived and what little amount of people who were still alive and sane wasn’t enough to keep government and law enforcement agencies functioning. Now it is the survival of the fittest. People became little more than savages. Every new day brings new hardships but in the end we will endure, we will survive, whatever the cost. This is the story of Victor, Anna and Victor’s new mysterious best friend. Approach your enemies silently and takedown them with your trusty crowbar. Get your hands dirty with close combat if you are caught. If you prefer to use a silent ranged weapon, use your bow to silently hunt your enemy down. When the things get really messy, switch to your reliable assault rifle. For the worst case, always keep your pistol somewhere nearby. Most importantly, manage your ammunition and medkit shots wisely. If you want to survive all these, you have to use your items carefully.
