Then you make the game and watch as your employees type away adding progress to a bar. Once the bar hits 100% you can release the game or wait and hope your employees fix all the bugs. Then the reviews come in and you are given a score, hopefully, it’s a hit. After that, you select a publisher or publish it yourself if you have the right equipment, and then you sit back as the money starts rolling in. Then you start the process all over again. You can make sequels to a bestselling title, make a movie licensed game, remaster an old gem, create a massively multiplayer online game (MMO), or even fill your games with paid addons. As the years go by you can research new and exciting technology or genres to use in your games but doing so will also make the cost of production go up. This game promises hours of fun as you try to climb to the top, and if you fail you can just start all over again. This game is still in early access, however, so some content is not available just yet and there are of course bugs. Some planned features include creating your own version of Xbox game pass, investing in or buying out companies, creating your own game console, and so much more.

Do Your Research

The game has been receiving consistent updates since its release which is a great sign for an early access game. If you have ever wanted to run your own game company then this game was made for you. The game is available on Steam. If you do not own a computer and still want to experience this game the first one is available on Nintendo Switch, it isn’t as pretty and doesn’t have every feature the second promises, but it is still a great time. The game description says:”The year is 1976. A couple of revolutionaries want to take over the entertainment industry. You too dare to take the risky step and set up your own games company in a small, nondescript office. Build your own studio with offices, production facilities and server rooms. Buy the most coveted open plan offices and become the leading manufacturer of computer games and consoles. To create the game of your dreams, Mad Games Tycoon 2 offers you many options. From a simple text adventure to expensive MMOs. Develop games for publishers willing to pay, or produce and distribute games from competitors. Design the most impressive next-gen console and dominate the hardware market. Hire the most legendary game developers, sell your most advanced engines to the competition, or simply buy out all game development studios. You have countless opportunities to influence the games industry in order to let your small studio grow into a market-leading corporation.” The current status of the preliminary draft is described as follows: “The Early Access version is already fully playable. The core functions have already been implemented. You can already build your own studio and equip it with various objects. You can hire staff, research new technologies, develop engines and produce games. To increase sales In order to increase the number of games you develop, you can already use the full range of marketing and support. In addition, there are already some larger offices available for purchase.” Mad Games Tycoon starts with the player starting their very own gaming company. The player gets to choose a skill and feature along with what country they’re from, all of which matter in the game. I am not sure exactly what these things do as they are not explained in the tutorial or the game itself, which I will get more into that later. After you make your character you need to set your garage to be able to develop your gaming studio.

Early Stumbles Pay Off in The End

There are various rooms that do various things such as music and sound room, graphics, PR, and of course, development. Everything you do in your gaming studio requires a room, so space places a vital part in setting up your studio. Mad Games Tycoon allows you to do various tasks outside of just developing games to help your newly formed gaming studio. You can develop your own game engines, take contracts from other publishers to complete their games and projects, and if you want, you can eventually become your own publisher and produce your own games without hiring one. Eventually, if you do make it far enough, you can develop your own console. There is definitely plenty to do when comes to running your company and this really makes for replayability. One of the main components of any good sim is micromanaging and there is plenty of micromanaging in Mad Games Tycoon. As I mentioned before, space is a huge additional variable that is added to the game. Being able to fit all the necessary rooms in your studio is vital to success and can lead to interesting interior design. Time is another important variable as new consoles and engines are developed you must adapt to new hardware and this means having to choose whether to go back and add those finishing touches or bypass those just to make sure to get your game out in a timely manner. There are multiple facets of game development that need constant attention at all times. Sometimes one part may complete and end up doing nothing while you are waiting for another part to finish, this means lots of pausing and rearranging of staff then play again. Mad Games Tycoon is a fun simulator and has lots of potential to be a really good sim, however, there are some glaring flaws that really bring it down. The main one is that there are literally no instructions. There is no control layout on how to navigate your studio, really, there are no explanations to anything that is in the game. As an avid sim player, I was able to get by for the most part due to knowing the basic mechanics of how sims work, but if you don’t play many sims I can see this game being really frustrating. I mentioned the skill and featured game in making a character, but I only mention them and don’t dive deep because I could never really figure out what exactly those meant along with dozens of other parts of the game. Each staff member has five categories of skills: Game Design, Music and Sound, Programming, Graphics, and Office Work. Outside of the music and graphics room, I am not sure which skill is best for each of the possible rooms. It wasn’t until the 4th play-through that I even realized country selection helped with sales of certain game types.

Gyro-Mouse is a Genius Idea

They have an entire production room in which gives you the ability to publish your own games and/or take contracts to publish other people’s games and I truly was never able to figure out exactly how it worked. They do have a tutorial, however, it’s minimalist and doesn’t do a good job of explaining things. Sadly, there are just too many components and variables in Mad Games Tycoon for there not to be any sort of manual or in-depth tutorial. Each room requires a minimum size and varies based on rooms and the only way you learn those are by trial and error. Overall, Mad Games Tycoon is a decent simulation game with plenty of potential, but with the lack of any sort of descriptions explaining basic features of the game, it is hard to recommend to any casual player. The game requires lots of trial and error or searching the internet for possible guides. That’s not all, either. You’ve got to care about your staff (hah, talk about a fanciful vision of the video game industry). You’ve got to make sure they’ve got a nice area to relax, a good bathroom to use, and all the heating and aesthetic elements (plants, paintings) to enjoy their time at work. You’ll also need to make sure you’re training them, so they get better at their jobs, and you’ll need to split your teams across a couple of different areas; you’ll need some dedicated to research, some to office management, some for QA, some for community management, and then the coding team itself. There’s a lot to balance, and it can become very easy to lose control of your company’s finances. If there’s one thing I really enjoyed about Mad Games Tycoon, it’s that you really do have the sense that a single failure in the market is going to end your business. What immediately lets the game down is its catastrophically bad interface and presentation. I get that it was originally a PC title, and therefore optimised for mouse and keyboard, but building new rooms and designing your environment is a cumbersome process that beggars belief. More than once I had to start right back from the start because I made a mistake in layout and it just wasn’t worth trying to fix it. Coupled with a menu design that looks straight out of a high school game project, and Mad Games Tycoon comes across as a title developed by a team that didn’t care much about the “graphics” rating of their own project. Game Dev Story’s appeal was always in the bright and colourful cartoon presentation that really drew you in and made you care about your little team of people. to this day when I sit down to work, if I am struck by a particularly positive moment of inspiration, I actually imagine the little icons that would float above my Game Dev Story people’s heads as they went on “fire” and worked up a storm. I think of that because Game Dev Story has character and personality in spades.

In comparison, with Mad Games Tycoon, I didn’t care about anything that was going on. My staff all looked like the kind of placeholder characters The Sims developers might use to test the game before putting the proper art in. Each time you finish “developing” a game, you’re given a “screenshot” of it, but these are all the same based on genre and game development era, and have nothing to do with the types of games that you’re developing. Setting my studio up to develop adults-only games, and getting treated to bright cartoon “screenshots” that are meant to represent my game is a disconnect that Game Dev Story wisely sidestepped by never attempting to visually represent the vast variety of games you could produce. And of course there are all kinds of bugs and design issues that just cheapen things further. There’s no character limit on what you can call the game in the text entry, but in-game the title would be cut off after just a few characters, to you’d come up with a great name only to have to then come up with something else. There were times that the controls simply stopped working entirely, meaning that you needed to exit out of whatever menu you were in (including the game development one) and start again. What really killed my interest in Mad Games Tycoon, however, is how arbitrary success can feel at times.
