Lifeless Planet Premier Edition Free Download Unfitgirl On its barren surface, Lifeless Planet: Premiere Edition is a difficult game to quantify. Is it a sandbox exploration title? A walking simulator? A puzzle-platformer? A sci-fi adventure with a splash of horror? In truth, it’s an amalgamation of all these things, but it only ever dips its toes into these creative sources and ends up feeling shallow and undefined as a result. Part of this is clearly a conscious decision on the part of indie developer David Board – the one-man outfit behind Stage 2 Studios – with a veil of mystery and the unknown permeating every corner of its alien world. It makes sense for the game to keep you guessing as to its true nature, but much like the story that ties its disparate parts together, that dissonance never really comes together and you’re left feeling rather unsure about what you just spent three-to-four hours playing. But, for all its faults, there’s something rather compelling about it. Sure, it might look like something you’d find on a PC Gamer magazine demo disc from the early 2000s, but there are some vistas scattered throughout the game that are so captivating that we found ourselves stopping to marvel at them while exploring the barren alien wasteland around us. It’s indicative of Lifeless Planet’s entire ethos: a crude experience, but one with fleeting yet impactful moments of brilliance. You’ll explore its story in the boots of an American astronaut who crashlands on said alien world. Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

What was meant to be a lush and verdant new home reveals itself to be a dead wasteland seemingly devoid of life. With your remaining crew missing and potentially lost forever, it’s up to you to unravel the mysteries unfolding before you. And there are some intriguing, almost Lost-esque clues dotted around, very much like narrative breadcrumbs. If this really is an extraterrestrial world, then why is there a human settlement here? Why are there records and flags suggesting this was the work of the Soviet Union? And where have all the men, women and children gone? Is it all just an elaborate hoax? These are the mysteries that Lifeless Planet lays before you in its first hour, and they make for an interesting way to draw you further into its world. The problem is that the world in question is such a largely uninspiring place to inhabit. The game more than lives up to its name; the titular planet feels empty. And while it’s obvious the lack of detail is a necessary sacrifice in order to enable a single developer to create sandbox environments as open as these, it just seems a little redundant when you discover these ‘open’ areas are actually quite linear with only one true route from end to another. Even the interior environments you encounter look like something out of the fan-made Counter-Strike map community. It’s all just a little too low-fi. However, it’s still quite fun to explore.

The astronaut meets a Russian woman

There’s something paradoxically satisfying about running around an alien landscape, using the single boost of your jetpack to jump from one rocky outcrop to another. You occasionally get access to a souped-up version of your jetpack when traversing much larger areas – making for some of the game’s most enjoyable sections – but these more engaging platforming set-pieces are few and far between as you’re too often stipped back to your basic level of thrust. Sure, the controls are a little clunky and it’s way too easy to overshoot your jumps, but it’s still a memorable way to break up the long periods of hiking through another barren gulley. There’s no combat to speak of, although there are dangers that we won’t spoil here, so expect to be caught out by the occasional jump scare. In fact, we’re impressed with how well the game builds a sense of growing foreboding. Rich Douglas’ score has multiple personalities, slipping from chilled-out resonance to a sinister crescendo, and it does a wonderful job of elevating the game in which it resides. It’s by far Lifeless Planet’s strongest addition. Science fiction games tend to lean heavily in one of two directions, action or horror; either you’re a badass marine with an arsenal of high tech weaponry or you’re a normal person caught up in some nightmare scenario in a setting where no one can hear you scream. While Lifeless Planet occasionally borrows a little bit from the latter take, it’s mostly an effort at creating a hard science fiction adventure driven by story as well as a sense of discovery. These are ambitious goals, especially for a project largely made by one developer, and you can see the strain of limited resources, but ultimately we’re left with an exceptionally intriguing game. The game kicks off with your character, an unnamed astronaut, experiencing a rough landing on a mysterious planet far from earth. Your fellow crew members are gone and you are low on oxygen so you set off with the goal of trying to survive and figuring out what is happening on this strange new world. Since this is a story driven game, I don’t want to go into too much detail, but it doesn’t take too long for you to realize this planet isn’t as lifeless as the title might suggest. People have been here before and something happened that has left the planet in a dire situation, and figuring out exactly what happened might be your only way of getting home. The story itself stumbles a little bit with its over-reliance on various log and journal entries, but the twists and turns are generally compelling, as is the use of environmental storytelling throughout. The end doesn’t quite match the build-up throughout the game, but it’s far from any sort of major disappointment and the game’s relatively short running time actually feels perfect for the story being told.

Cold War era science fiction stories

In terms of gameplay, Lifeless Planet progresses in a fairly linear fashion, only occasionally opening up to wider areas that encourage broader exploration. Generally though, you are led along through various challenges based around platforming and/or puzzle solving. None of these mechanics present a great deal of challenge, but they change up frequently enough that they rarely feel tiresome or bland. That being said, there is a lot of walking fairly long distances of oftentimes barren terrain that could easily bore some. Frustration might also pop up from time to time thanks to some floaty jumping controls that can make some platforming sections feel harder than they actually are. Overall, this focus on simplicity feels like it mostly benefits the game because the focus remains on progressing through the story. Of course, telling a story in a video game can benefit from a great visual presentation and this is where Lifeless Planet is definitely a mixed bag. On the one hand, much of the game looks like it largely could have been accomplished on an N64; textures and geometry are often very simple and a general lack of variety in some areas can make stretches of the game really uninteresting to look at. Or at least that’s the case early on, because as the game progresses the art direction really starts to shine through and we see some great use of lighting and fog. Some areas in the game are absolutely breathtaking despite the lack of advanced graphics and these parts left a much bigger impression than the barren wastelands you occasionally traverse. Some cut-scenes also suffer from the simple visual style, but once again, the direction largely makes the blocky character models a moot point. Also, it’s worth noting that I did experience occasional slow-downs and stutters, though they never severely impacted gameplay or the overall experience. The sound design, on the other hand, is almost without fault. The sound effects are actually fairly sparse and simple, but it really works considering the isolating nature of much of the game. The soundtrack is really what shines the most, though. Much of the game, especially early on, is quite purposefully silent with music only coming in at the right moments to add emphasis to new discoveries or significant story beats. As the game progresses and the tension increases, the music becomes more common and evolves appropriately as sparse atmospheric sounds give way to progressively bigger, more driving songs that would feel at home in any of the best sci-fi games or movies. The game also features a few voice acted roles and the performances, while not necessarily award-worthy, are quite solid and sell the emotion they’re trying to convey.

Without delving into major plot details, that’s really all there is to say about Lifeless Planet; it’s a simple game trying to tell an ambitious story and it mostly succeeds despite some very noticeable limitations, both in terms of technology and design. For some, the gameplay might prove too simple and the comparatively low fidelity visuals might pull people out of the experience and distract them from what the game does well. While part of me would definitely love to see Lifeless Planet re-imagined with a more modern engine and an extra layer or two to the gameplay, I can’t deny I found the game plenty compelling as it is. So, for those interested in a no-frills, story driven sci-fi adventure that doesn’t overstay its welcome, Lifeless Planet is well worth a closer look. Few things can be more fright-inducing than exploring an unknown distant land – especially when there’s seemingly no chance of returning home. Isolation and uncertainty leads to heightened anxiety which only makes the dread that much more palpable. Lifeless Planet certainly captures a glimpse of that but fails to instill the feeling throughout with its drab looking areas. Exploration ends up becoming a chore and that’s only compounded by the poor and at times infuriating platforming. However those willing to deal with the shortcomings will find a somewhat interesting narrative woven within its bland visuals. Assetto Corsa

Leaving Earth behind, a nameless astronaut sets forth on a mission to find signs of life on distant planets. Although it isn’t long before he’s awaken to the spacecraft spiraling out of control, ultimately crash landing upon a foreign planet. At first glance it seems to be uninhabited, but it quickly becomes apparent that isn’t – or at least wasn’t – the case. Stumbling upon a deserted Russian town opens up a bounty of questions, ones that will only be answered by finding audio recordings and memos left in the abandoned settlements. These help paint a picture of the planet’s demise, but things continue to get troublesome when a mysterious lifeform shows its face. Tracking down this strange being becomes the primary goal as you continue to unravel the truth behind this strange planet. Along the way, plant like creatures attempt to impale, suffocate or pull you under the ground. The only way to avoid this fate is to avoid the creatures all together which sometimes can be tricky. While discovering the truth about the planet’s past is interesting, story bits are scattered few and far between. The majority of your time will be traversing and exploring the different areas. However, the problem with that is the platforming feels right out of the N64 era. Poor camera controls make easy jumps more difficult than they should be. It becomes more demanding towards the later portions of the adventure.

At that point it is clear how poor the platforming really is. This can lead to some frustration. The astronaut is equipped with a jetpack which allows a doublejump of sorts. Unexpectedly, it really only gives a small elevation boost when used. Finding special tanks in your travels will enable an extended boost mode which lets you jump further with the jetpack, giving the ability to gain a substantial amount of height. Sadly though, these are limited to certain areas of the game which were designed with it in mind – making the normal jetpack underwhelming in comparison. In addition to platforming, there are a number of different puzzles placed along the critical path, sadly though none that require too much thought. Generally these take form in finding a small energy boulder and bringing it to a different location so you can use the astronauts robotic arm to place it in a hole. The robotic arm will also be used to press combinations on locked doors, but I found myself randomly pressing them until it would open. One push block puzzle left me in astonishment of how poorly the blocks moved. As far as exploration goes, there’s always a single path that leads to the next area with little off the beaten path. Early on, I paid more attention to the surrounds hoping to find a branching path worth seeing, but quickly that became a fool’s errand. Instead, I found myself searching for the quickest path to the next area.
