CRISIS CORE FINAL FANTASY VII REUNION Free Download Unfitgirl On the technical side, however, the graphics have been completely renewed, the models have been remade from scratch, many scenes that in the original were only subtitled are now dubbed, and also the combat system has been updated. We are still uncertain on the term that better describes the game, which is the reason why we used ‘reunion’. It’s really complicated, as it’s much more than a remaster, but at the same time is not a complete remake. Since it was first revealed, one of the most common questions regarding Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is the choice to call it a remaster when it could easily be seen as a remake. The game uses new assets to recreate the original PSP game after all. The original game’s fantastic Materia Fusion system returns for Reunion, and lets you combine generally weaker magic, command, special, and support Materia to create stronger and more interesting results. Using the Materia Fusion system, I was able to create the powerful Quake spell relatively early on, and while it allowed me to obliterate large groups of weak enemies almost instantaneously, I still felt like I had earned that strength thanks to some smart fusing. Reunion is also stuffed with simple, distracting minigames that return throughout the story. These distractions almost unfailingly annoyed me until I could get back to the far stronger fights, with activities ranging from slashing down missiles midair to collecting items while on a timer. We were able to interview Crisis Core producer, Mariko Sato, and Creative Director and Character Designer, Tetsuya Nomura and ask them about the game’s status as well as a few other details. Tetsuya Nomura needs a little introduction. Starting his career at Square as a monster designer for Final Fantasy V and going on to be the director of the Kingdom Hearts series and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Nomura has also acted as the character designer for the original Final Fantasy VII and the original PSP release of Crisis Core, giving him a pretty deep connection to its cast of characters. Mariko Sato joined Square Enix in 2014 as the project manager for World of Final Fantasy as well as the HD remasters of Final Fantasy VII on Switch, Final Fantasy VIII, and Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. Here’s what they both had to see about the upcoming Reunion. So, there you have it – it’s a bit of both, but doesn’t go the whole yard in terms of being a “complete remake”. Unfortunately, not every aspect of Crisis Core’s gameplay has been updated with the same level of success, and the aging game underneath it all can rear its ugly head again outside of combat. There are some relatively open areas Zack can run around across Midgar and Gaia, but several interior and exterior corridors are often strung together with (thankfully brief) loading screens. And while the 10 story chapters are mostly compelling and typically last about an hour each, Crisis Core’s mission system still offers additional, bite-sized quests originally designed to be played on the go. Most of them aren’t very substantial and almost all boil down to running through the same small number of hallways, randomly encountering enemies, and collecting items from a few chests. Playing these can greatly extend the runtime of the campaign, but I only felt compelled to do a handful of them – some to get additional accessory slots, some for high-powered Materia, and some to see cute story beats from a young, spunky Yuffie.

Combat is also faster. A lot faster. Zack can swiftly dodge attacks, roll behind enemies for critical hits, sneak in a few sword slashes, and roll back out of the way to deliver a Firaga blast in a way that makes the original seem downright sluggish. I replayed a bit of it while making my way through Reunion as a refresher, and the difference in pace is simply night and day. Combat still doesn’t feel like it has quite as much depth as the admittedly high bar set by FF7R’s action, and doesn’t benefit from that game’s ability to switch between party members on the fly, but the changes here are still by far the biggest improvement made over the PSP version. The game promises to include updated 3D models, full voiceovers and new music arrangements. If you’re not entirely familar with this release, it made its debut on the PSP in 2007 and is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII starring Zach Fair – an important character in the FFVII mythos: “the way his story weaves into the fates of characters like Cloud, Aerith, Tifa and Sephiroth will leave a lasting impression.” We started the interview by asking if Crisis Core Reunion was a remake or a remaster. According to Nomura, he sees a remake as something that entirely recreates the original story while Crisis Core is still based on “data” from the original game. Personally, I have always thought of a “remake” as a recreation of a title using almost none of the original data. In that aspect, while the majority of the data for this title have been newly created, some elements, such as character motion, do reuse data from the original title. Sniper Ghost Warrior 2

Genuinely, almost everything that was true of the original Crisis Core is true of Reunion with few changes.

Having been involved in a number of “remastered” title releases, though, I can certainly say that this title is much more of a “remake” than any of those were. As it falls between both categories, we decided to use neither of the words in the game’s title”. So instead of remake or remaster, they chose the word “reunion”. We additionally asked him if there was a reason the prefix “Re” has been used in so many Final Fantasy VII projects. Nomura says this was more or less to show that all the projects were connected to the same universe. While there was no specific intention at the beginning of the series to ensure that all titles featured the “Re” prefix, we have inevitably ended up using “Re” words in all the remake project titles when we aimed to hold the meaning of remake. While each title in the trilogy is different, we also wanted to make sure that they could all be abbreviated to “FFVIIR” to suggest the commonalities they share in terms of world and story”. The DMW system also returns largely unaltered, for better and for worse. Throughout combat, a three-tile slot machine is automatically running in the upper lefthand corner, and when a particular character lines up or certain number combinations are achieved, Zack can get some pretty substantial boosts. Those include temporarily having unlimited MP or getting the ability to execute a powerful Limit Break or Summon. It’s a fun way for combat to feel consistently fresh, but the rate at which these boosts are achieved is incredibly uneven and random, sometimes making a boss a pushover and taking the fun out of figuring out more unique ways to best them.

We should note that it has been confirmed that Crisis Core is canon to Final Fantasy VII Remake. The story of the game will also be unchanged from the original game’s. Square Enix has previously said that while the story of Crisis Core Reunion will be unchanged, the gameplay will be getting an update. Zack’s swordplay will be a mixture of the original Crisis Core’s battle system, the Digital Mind Wave (DMW), and that of The Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, not all of Crisis Core Reunion’s grinds have aged quite as well. For starters, the game has far too many random battles. At times, I found myself sprinting with Zack pressed up against the game’s walls to avoid being in the centralized areas that trigger them. Additionally, Crisis Core Reunion has a lot of side missions. Considering the game was originally created to exist on a handheld console, it is understandable: Each of these missions last for a few minutes and would be ideal to play through if you have a few spare minutes while out and about. Removed from that context when played on a console, these missions are not as satisfying. And, considering how similar they are even if the background stories are slightly different, they quickly grow repetitive. That being said, Crisis Core Reunion is marketed as a direct remake, so it makes sense it’s all there and I can’t fault the studio for carrying over pre-existing content too much. Even so, the game would have greatly benefited from finding ways to make this content more worthwhile and less outdated in feel. Producer Mariko Sato told us more about the revamped combat. A number of improvements have been made to the battle system, including enabling standard attack combos and introducing shortcuts for the selection of abilities and magic. Souldiers Switch

Also, the Digital Mind Wave (DMW) system has also been revamped, so instead of interrupting the battle to display the effects of the DMW across the entire screen, it now rolls seamlessly in the top left corner. A “skip” function has also been added. Other improvements have also been made to the “hit stop” mechanic as well as adjusting the magic speed for the improvement of feel”. Another surprise of Crisis Core Reunion was that it was confirmed that the popular musician Gackt would be returning to voice the main villain of the game: Genesis Rhapsodos whose face was also modeled in the singer’s likeness. One of our questions was what it was like to work with Gackt again, but according to Nomura, they didn’t really work with Gackt. The game instead uses his pre-recorded lines from the original game. Reunion’s graphical facelift may be what catches your eye initially, but its most substantial improvements are in its gameplay tweaks. Crisis Core was always an action RPG, but the PSP’s single thumbstick and two bumper layout forced Square Enix to get creative with its design, making you shuffle through spells, attacks, items, and more using the left and right bumpers. With a modern controller at your disposal, Zack’s basic attack, dodge, and guard commands are now all mapped to face buttons and triggers, and you can use abilities and cast spells much more quickly by pressing those same buttons while holding L1. If you don’t like how the controls are layed out, you can even remap virtually everything in the pause menu.

The tale of Zack’s dreams and honor—the legacy that connects him to Cloud—is revealed in full in this grand saga that has broken the limits of an HD remaster.

All of Genesis’s lines were already fully voiced in the original and therefore, was no need to record any new lines for this title. Well, it makes sense. If you’ve got all his lines pre-recorded then there isn’t a need to do it again. Still, it’s cool to see Gackt make a return to the series in some form. In fact, Gackt voicing Genesis again was such a nice surprise that the singer started to trend on Twitter when Reunion was announced. The final point we were interested in was that Crisis Core Reunion was going to launch on so many different consoles. The game will be appearing in not only on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC but also on the Switch. Sato says that it was pretty difficult but they believe that players will be “satisfied” with the final product. Crisis Core Reunion also improves one of the original game’s most notable features: the Digital Mind Wave. Also referred to as the DMW, it’s a constantly spinning, slot machine-style combat enhancer that lurks in the upper left corner of your screen during combat. The icons featured on the slots are characters and summons you meet throughout the game, with characters providing you with limit breaks based on Zack’s relationship to them, and summons granting you the ability to, well, summon them. As your relationships with certain characters are altered, you become more or less likely to see them make an appearance in the DMW. In theory, it’s an incredibly strange feature, as this slot machine is responsible for allowing you to dish out your hardest-hitting moves as well as level up. In execution, however, the DMW is extremely fun and satisfying, generally working out fairly well for players while also introducing an element of randomness to battles that keep them fresh.

In the original Crisis Core, this feature did earn some criticism for its “modulating phase,” which would grind battles to a halt as the slots took up the entire screen. These phases no longer exist, though Crisis Core Reunion will still interrupt battles to show brief cutscenes when the slots land on certain characters. Considering the time we get with Zack is so brief, I found these cutscenes not only fascinating to watch, but needed. As an extroverted person who is supremely devoted to the people around him (just take a look at how many text messages the guy gets), having this mechanic where Zack’s relationships play a role on his mental state–and subsequently the way he battles–is a brilliant choice that tells us a lot about him without adding hours onto Crisis Core’s story. All these unique qualities create a tangible difference in Final Fantasy VII and Crisis Core’s gameplay, which drives just how different Zack and Cloud truly are. “To be honest, yes, it did pose a number of difficulties. However, every member of the team was fully committed to ensuring that “CRISIS CORE” would reach as many users as possible. After various types of trials and errors, we are confident that we have produced versions for each platform that users will be satisfied with”. Regardless of what it is, it’s great to see Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on modern consoles with Reunion. Zack’s adventures and how they led to Cloud’s path made for one of the best RPGs on the PSP, one that deserves to be played by more people brought into the series with FFVII Remake. We wish Mr. Nomura and Ms. Sato the best of luck as they see the world of Gaia Reborn. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 is really real, with Zack in all his glory. Announced at today’s Final Fantasy 7 25th Anniversary stream, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is planned for release on Xbox Series X and S, PS5, PS4, Switch, and PC sometime this winter.

We caught another glimpse of Zack later during the show, too, as part of the trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, indicating that he’ll continue to have a greater role in the remake series as well as it seems to be shifting a number of the original game’s main story beats. With Final Fantasy 7 Remake now situated as a trilogy, Crisis Core Reunion seems to be positioned as a prequel to the new story the series is trying to tell. In our original review, we awarded it an 8.5/10, saying “Crisis Core is a great PSP game — no question.Crisis Core also features materia fusion, which allows you to take leveled up materia and combine it with other types to create new and more powerful spells and abilities. While grinding materia out in Final Fantasy VII was arguably already fun, the implementation of this fusion system makes it even more satisfying. Rather than simply raising how powerful your Fira becomes, materia fusion allows you to create entirely new spells all together, such as combining said Fira with Assault Twister to create Fira Blade, an ability that inflicts magic damage while not using MP. Additionally, you can add items during fusion that, when equipped on Zack, alter his stats. I spent a lot of time managing and fusing my materia while playing Crisis Core Reunion, and despite being someone who doesn’t necessarily love crafting, I enjoyed every minute of it. It honors Final Fantasy VII’s legacy. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is a prequel to the original Final Fantasy 7, released for PSP in the west in 2008. The game gained unexpected new relevance when Final Fantasy 7 Remake seemed to include a shot-for-shot remake of Crisis Core’s ending, but drastically changed its outcome, seemingly setting up prequel protagonist Zack Fair for an appearance in the main games.
