Live Your Legacy

Challenge both your body and mind as you experience the ascent of Adonis Creed from undiscovered underdog to world-class fighter, all within an immersive universe inspired by the Creed™ films. Got it to train accuracy/reflexes. Well-done overall. It does get monotonous though, and I wish there were more options to increase the difficulty other than just longer levels. Overall, for this sort of purpose I’ve generally stopped playing in favor of Beat Saber, which has more options and is more fun. However, there’s nothing wrong with the game itself, and my wife has started using it too.

Multiple Game Modes

Choose your path to glory in multiple games modes: store-driven Career, customizable Freeplay, or minigame-based Training. The graphics are good, and I have to say I love the idea of the PvP (in theory), and was looking forward to training my boxing skills against players around the world. In practice, however, I ended up having a couple of problems with the mechanics. First, having to constantly spin my arms like a freak for every damned thing not only grew rapidly annoying, but actually started to give me elbow pain after a few days.For starters, the visual downgrade is a bit jarring. Textures are mostly flat with far less lighting to enhance things and fighters are just way less detailed when they get up in your face. The environments surrounding the rings feel empty and barren for the most part and it’s all around a major downgrade that’s noticeable if you’ve ever played the original. It’s honestly to the point that the art style just doesn’t flow right without the higher fidelity visuals.Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Online PvP

PvP just got a lot more personal. Choose your champion, then set up a custom fight with a friend or find your contenders in crossplay Quick Match. Precise upper-body tracking ensures each blow resonates where it lands—on both your opponent and yourself. I wanted to enjoy it, but not being able to actually just go in and fight ruined the experience for me. Ended up deleting it. I won’t spend a ton of time talking about the game as a whole — you can read that original review for more details on that — but instead will focus on how this port differs from the original version. To be clear, this is the entire game. Survios managed to jam the whole experience onto the Oculus Quest with all of its game modes and fighters included. That alone is quite admirable. Unfortunately, the game suffers as a result.

Feel the Impact

Phantom Melee Technology mimics the real-life effects of throwing and taking punches in the ring, such as the out-of-body sensation of getting knocked out or the fatigue during a long, frantic bout. The mechanics of this one are a lot better, and the AI fighters are smarter, react better, and are less predictable. No “you’re exhausted because I say so” nonsense here; you get exhausted when you actually get exhausted. If it had a PvP like Creed it would be perfect; as it is, it’s still plenty challenging. Then when it comes to performance the Quest really struggles to keep up. Creed is a very fast game that requires quick reaction time, lightning fast reflexes, and the ability to move around and respond without hesitation. But that’s hard to do when the game chugs, drops frames, and has trouble keeping things flowing in the heat of a fight. Out of all the full games and demos I’ve tried on Quest so far, and that number is well over a dozen at this point, Creed may have the worst performance.

Break them―or become them

Play or fight the most iconic figures from the Creed™ and Rocky™ universe in Freeplay or PvP, including classic Rocky Balboa, Ivan and Viktor Drago, and more! The thing that really killed it for me, however, was the exhaustion mechanic. I’m in reasonably good shape and my endurance is far superior to that of the in-game character (which is ridiculous considering the character is supposed to be a professional athlete). It’s beyond frustrating to struggle in matches not because I’m outclassed either physically or in skill, but because I can’t throw more than a few punches before the game decides I’m “exhausted” and turns my in-game arms to soggy noodles, while in real life I’m not yet even breathing hard.
