Clunky Hero Free Download Unfitgirl Developed by Chaosmonger Studio, Clunky Hero has been in Steam Early Access since 2021. Now the game’s ready for its full release landing on consoles and PC. I had the game described to me as The Monty Python meets Hollow Knight, and in some ways I could see it – maybe if I squinted. Overall though, I was excited to dive into a Metroidvania-style game as they more often than not land well with me, but I guess clunky is the optimum word. The game opens to a medieval/fantasy setting that breaks down the start to the game through an orotund old-English voice-over as most epic tales do. Rufus, the peasant protagonist lives his pleasant life with his wife Brunhilde (who’s described as someone who’s not exactly “pretty” and “the boss of the house” on the Steam page). However, this isn’t the happy ever after they were hoping as The Evil One Who Should Not Be Named – I guess Voldemort didn’t trademark that – grabs Brunhilde from their home and turns her into… “some sort of hideous duck face girl”. Rufus reaches for a bucket, placing it on his head. Then grabs Brunhilde’s broom and sets out on a quest to save her. At this point, I was already thinking to myself that these are pretty out of touch 2010s-era of online misogyny, but whatever – comedy right? However, it doesn’t get much better or funnier in any regards. Rufus is an unlikable, obnoxious, arrogant, dim-witted protagonist and I loathed to see what his dialogue was next. Out of place commentary of a Priest character being an unflattering stereotype with no basis. Random “SJW” rhetoric. Fourth wall breaking that I wish I could plaster over. The comedy lands perfectly to pre-teens who think that punching each other in the nards and telling women to “get back in the kitchen” are the peaks of hilarity.Unfitgirl.COM SEXY GAMES

I’d give it a pass if maybe Rufus wasn’t posed as this hero that we’re playing as – but he is – we’re supposed to be rooting for him. The game ends exactly how you expect it to making it an overall grating, predictable story that I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities about. Which is a shame as the gameplay has some qualities that made my time with Clunky Hero not completely unenjoyable. As I previously mentioned, Clunky Hero is a 2D Metroidvania. Progressing through the game and completing quests from NPCs will garner you new abilities. Some of these are new methods of offensive abilities such as a ground pound, ranged attacks whilst the others are new traversal mechanics like a double jump, wall cling or dash. The early game is rough when all you have is attack and jump. On top of this, the only way of discovering maps to show your location and the surroundings can only be found through exploration or buying them from shops. This made the claustrophobic camera angle that focuses too much on the character, and not enough of the level hard to navigate if you don’t have said map. They’re also all broken up by separate screens, so if you were to go to a different stage in the same area, you’d have to find that map too. I felt discouraged to explore despite it being a core feature. As well as that, the only way to protect you from dying and losing all your progress is finding a save point, which end up being far and few between. In some instances, I needed to progress with no healing items and only 2HP left, meaning I needed to get through almost a whole area littered with enemies and traps before potential safety; and if you’ve not got a map to navigate.

Clunky Hero Defeat tough bosses.

You may find yourself unintentionally doing a no-hit run of the game. However, when the abilities are unlocked from boss fights, the dopamine of using your new powers in areas you’ve been through already starts to hit. You’ll eventually get a ranged ability where you’ll use your armpit stink to shoot at enemies. Though the bulk will be spamming ‘X’ till they dies. The best method of fight is to be in a specific range where your attack hits but the enemy misses. It’s a little mindless and the only times I was bested were when enemies spawned in as I land from above. Boss fights get a little more interesting as they’ll usually have three different attacks where you can read their pattern to know which one it’ll be. But without a boss HP bar you’re just blindly attacking till it’s over. The platforming elements are okay, the Clunky Hero does control with pin-point precision with a jump and then double-jump that makes traversing through the areas satisfying. However, the level design usually squanders it by having strange sized areas that makes your jump collide into the ceiling, blocking your trajectory, then potentially missing the moving platform and dying in a pit. It didn’t happen too often, but when other elements aren’t firing at 100% as well, it makes situations like this stand out even more. Clunky Hero’s Steam description states that it has lovely hand-drawn-looking graphics. The levels look potentially hand crafted, with neat looking background vistas that enhance the visual art style. There are 9 different areas to explore, all distinct enough from each other but it doesn’t necessarily set itself apart from other games. The Clunky Hero himself – Rufus – sports a unique Conan the Barbarian style look.RITE Switch NS

If Conan wore a bucket over his head. It’s not explained why, I guess just funny. Platforms you traverse on most of the time just wind up being a floating pole structure in thin air, which feels a little lacklustre. Other levels have proved to be better designed by integrating the environment with the platforms like the Dark Forest using vines as platforms. Although, the biggest offenders are the enemy types. Wow. From flannel-wearing-“hipsters”, to Pumpkin Jack rip-offs to literal blobs. The enemies are so uninspired, derivative, out of place sometimes, but all have such grating death screams. When the majority of your time spent is killing them, it really got on my nerves. With that said, the music in the game successfully fulfils the medieval fantasy. Flutes, lutes and driving drums enforce the epic journey you’ve embarked on. It’s by default quiet but it swells during the boss fights giving the game a huge sense of scale. It was the most immersive factor about the game, a tone I wish proceeded in other aspects. My criticisms of Clunky Hero were not to tear down the work that Chaosmonger Studio has done. Whilst all comedy is subjective, certain ground rules are in place for balance and an even playing field. Most of the comedy just punches down and makes weird criticisms that aid in diminishing any progress we’ve made in the field. I’m not on a soapbox claiming to be king of comedy, but tonally we don’t need out of context societal critics in a fantasy land that ideally doesn’t suffer the same shortcomings because it’s not real. It comes off as too jaded or contrarian to really get the Beavis and Buttheads to snort. The game itself however has a decent structure as a metroidvania and some of the toilet humour works because that’s just goofy and in-character.

Trade Items on various shops along the game.

Even though I mentioned the combat to be a little one-note, sometimes mindless hack and slash is just the type you need and it’s pulled off well enough. While the developers use the word “metroidvania”, this feels like an inappropriate use of the term, since Clunky Hero would be best described as a free-roaming 2D platformer. The player is free to explore at their leisure while defeating enemies, collecting coins, jumping around and solving quests (which are, for the most part, of the “fetch” variety). In my mind, a metroidvania would offer something more — some RPG elements, loot to collect or, at the very least, experience/level up mechanics. None of this is in Clunky. It is possible to learn new skills, like the incredibly necessary genre-standard double jump, but what’s on offer adds little to the overall play beyond having to go back to areas which have been previously visited, and this doesn’t clear the metroidvania bar for me. Combat is okay but lacks variety. Each defeated enemy will drop coins, but these are only useful to buy health and mana-restoring items which makes collecting them feel like it’s of low purpose. Further, most of the enemies in Clunky Hero are quite inoffensive, which makes killing them tedious — they’re dangerous only if the player gets distracted and they get the drop on them. What’s worse is that these enemies respawn as Clunky leaves the area, and since there’s little value in defeating them again, this gets annoying fast. There’s no way to buy upgrades to weapons, nor different kinds of armor or amulets of any kind. Some weapons can be obtained via solving quests and… that’s it. Frogun Deluxe Edition Switch NSP

So, the gist of the gameplay is walking around, killing enemies and solving puzzles of the “pull lever to open door” variety. This is all fine, really. I’m not against the kind of simple gameplay Clunky Hero offers, but I definitely feel like there’s room for improvement as it’s still in Early Access. That said, I doubt that it will evolve into something much different than its current form — it’s just an overall solid platformer that checks off the required boxes, and nothing more. Clunky Hero is a story-driven, platformer metroidvania, with a touch of RPG, Hack’n’Slash and tons of humor. If you’d love a platformer game where you have a funny storyline, can talk with characters, solve side quests, find and buy items, change weapons and wearables, with great hand-drawn-looking backgrounds, presented in a very comical way, then Clunky Hero might be the game of your dreams! Clunky Hero looks great and has a good metroidvania foundation. In my experience so far it definitely needs some polish before I can pick it up again. Inputs were being eaten, some enemies are just walking hitboxes despite having awesome 3D models with weapons in their hands, and I’d way prefer if they went all in on the humor as some of the music/sections in the game clash in tone. The game stars a guy wearing a bucket fighting with a broom! Lean in more! 😀 Check out my full gameplay review video for Clunky Hero. I go into great depth about the Story, Graphics, Audio, Gameplay, and other noteworthy things I feel needs to be mentioned: Clunky Hero is a metroidvania game featuring a humoristic premise: the Hero needs to rescue his wife from the Evil One who turned her into a duck-faced doll girl. Most of the comedy lies in the prologue area where we can talk to a few NPCs and know more about the setting.

Humorous dialogues and funny items/weapons.

I’m saying comedy, but the truth is that the game never got me to laugh despite trying multiple times with quirky dialogues, item descriptions and meta-references. We start the game at the protagonist’s village, with no clear indications on where we should go. I went to the right only to realize the path was blocked and should have gone to the left instead. Although it looks pretty, the level design is too vague and there isn’t any clue about where to find the Hero’s wife or why we should move to a different area. The game doesn’t set a goal that makes us willing to explore and follow the story. During our journey we can receive a few side quests, most likely by the same villagers from the prologue who seem to be the only NPCs left in this world. It would have been nice to meet new characters in other areas and make side quests more interesting since they only consist in finding an item or a person and then returning back to the quest-giver. Fortunately there is a fast travel option that can be used in exchange for some coins. In its current state, the game lacks any difficulty (and there is no option to select it). Monsters just come towards us, so it’s easy to smash them away using only one button and without giving them time to start the attack. If they do, we must manually retreat or jump to avoid their attack. Enemies respawn each time we leave the area, which can bother at times, especially considering there are only a few types. I think they could just respawn after saving, like seen in many other videogames. The combat feels basic and unchallenging for a game of this genre; if we get hurt, we can find or buy healing items that make everything way too easy.

There is no strategy involved and even boss fights are quite easy to beat, though they don’t show any health bar at the moment, so we are left wondering how many hits they need to go down. The UI also needs some improvements as it looks dated and unfriendly to navigate. The entire RPG aspect is missing and thus any form of character progression. No skills to unlock, no customization options (except a few basic ones like changing our weapon) and overall no way to gain experience from combat. We only get a few soft skills (like double jumping) after defeating some bosses, while beating everyone else only rewards us with coins that we can spend buying a few items or treasure maps. Technically, the 2.5D graphics look nice and the performance is silky smooth. I only encountered one serious bug that forced me to reload the game multiple times. In some parts the camera stopped focusing on our Hero, falling down and losing its centre. Obviously, the game is still in early access and, while the 0.92 version I played was quite polished, there may be other issues that need to be addressed. Clunky Hero is a fun metroidvania action-adventure game. The stylistic choices of the game are nice in that it is pretty to look at while you’re playing and the metroidvania aspects are well-implemented. I’m focusing on the negatives in my review solely because the game is in early-access and not because they are what I predominantly think of when I think of this game. Most substantially, combat in the game needs work and fighting end bosses is…kind of boring.

Once you attack, you can’t move, so sometimes you can see an enemy about to attack you in the middle of your own attack animation and you would normally be capable of reacting to it and dodging, but you’re stuck taking the hit instead. End-section bosses are pretty one-dimensional in that they have a few different attacks, but once you kill the first one, the same method applies to all of them nearly exactly. It would be reaaaaally nice to have a mechanism of some sort that makes coins come to you if you are some distance away from them without having to walk over top of them. Collecting coins from killing enemies without one is a mild, though constant, annoyance. The humor in the game isn’t really my thing, but it’s a minor part of the gameplay. I knew this was the type of humor I would encounter when I bought it, so I’m not mad about it. The character’s voices are odd in a cheap (not charming) way. Achievements could be better spaced and more original. They’re basically the same for each section (kill 10x each enemy in each section, kill the end-section boss, and then there a handful of others that are related to the game overall). All in all, the game is really fun to play and well-paced. Progression in the game feels fair and rewarding. The game is in a solid state for being in early-access and I look forward to the future levels. The premise of the game is simple and fun, which applies to combat mechanic as well. The best part is definitely the outstanding hand-drawn environment and kinky characters. Every enemy I met is memorable. I have to appreciate the beautiful layered parallax effect which makes you feel like you are running in the 3D space.Rogue Lords
