BERSERK and the Band of the Hawk Free Download Unfitgirl Arrived in a western version with a somewhat redundant title, Berserk and the Band of the Hawk potentially represents a dream, even in Italy, for many fans. They are those same kids, now men, who have been following the endless vicissitudes of the black warrior for more than twenty years. The longevity of the manga, the continuous re-editions / reprints and the inevitable anime adaptations have brought the bloody epic of Guts (Gatsu to us) and companions to the attention of an increasingly varied audience. Despite the cyclopean slowness of Kentaro Miura in carrying the story forward, and becoming aware of an undeniable narrative decline in the second half of the work, Berserk has always managed to be appreciated. For these reasons, the excitement around the release of the latest Omega Force creature was evident from the very first announcement. To tell the truth, Guts has already had the opportunity to tread the intransigent videogame catwalk, both in the excellent Sword of the Berserk: Gut’s Rage for Dreamcast and in Berserk, on PS2. These were two very interesting games, albeit for different reasons: the first, more authorial and staid, was structured as an unreleased episode that was inserted in the original narrative continuity. The second, on the other hand, was a bit more ambitious, at least on paper, as he tried to cover a good chunk of history, slavishly retracing the deeds of the black warrior. Coming, finally, to the title Tecmo Koei, the intent of the developers is quite clear: to create the most complete videogame work on the universe born from the pencil of Kentaro Miura. And it is quickly done: combined with the stainless formula of the musou, the gameplay relies on the usual light slashes and strong blows, with relative combos and hundreds of enemies to defeat. But let’s try to get a little more specific. Skimming the play structure to a minimum, the Band of the Hawk is a very pure musou. During the fights it is possible to fill the inevitable fury bar, which reached the maximum, allows us to activate a status during which we are much stronger. At this juncture, an additional bar boosts the classic super move, to be unleashed cathartically on throngs of enemies. The story mode is really well done and aims to follow the narration in full respect of the original one. Precisely for this reason, the selectable characters are very few (although some can transform themselves) and in the second half of the adventure we will almost always use Guts.

Of course, it’s a bit like what you see in the manga, but it is still worth pointing out. In full Omega Force style we then have the level up of the protagonists, the fights in limited areas and the initially superfluous management of an inventory. At a normal level, in fact, equipping rings, banners and other items is almost completely superfluous, given the challenge rate set downwards. Conversely, by raising the difficulty it becomes necessary (and delicious) to choose your own paraphernalia, to strengthen it or even to merge it to create increasingly stronger items. Even if weakened by an often hysterical camera and characterized by sudden peaks of difficulty, these fights perfectly capture the spirit of the manga, for fervor, charisma and intensity. Not all of them have been very successful, and some would have deserved more space, but overall this aspect is undoubtedly well done. A discordant note of the campaign can be found in the use – as cut scenes – of the OAVs released between 2012 and 2015, by the 4 ° C studio. World War Z 

Regardless of the personal level of taste for the more or less pleasant use of the CG, the setting that characterizes the first part of the game is nothing short of sumptuous, placing great emphasis on what remains, probably, the narrative arc most loved by fan. Moving on, the movies – not “covered” by the movies anymore, are made with the game engine, and despite the good will, the results are not exactly excellent. Yet, thanks to the always different curtains before and after the levels and to the punctual narration at the limit of the didactic, very little has been left out of the original events. Another and very tasty mode, the Endless Eclipse is a sort of tower to climb where increasingly stronger enemies are faced, in the name of furious unlocking. The graphics, while not keeping up with the most recent musou, stand out for the splendid characters, even if the environments, the textures and the general care of the scenarios is really at the level of a PS3 (platform supported for the release of the title, even if only in Japan).

The frame rate manages not to collapse, despite not going beyond 30fps. The lion’s share is played by the animations: powerful, flawless, capable of returning an excellent heaviness of the blows. Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, with its graphics only sufficient, the basic and redundant gameplay and the few selectable characters is in some ways a step back from the latest musou published by Koei Tecmo. Seen as a complete work dedicated to Berserk, vice versa, it remains an indispensable title in its encyclopedic number of contents. A must, therefore, but only for true lovers of the original saga. The best comparison to Berserk to make for those not so inclined toward the manga medium is Game of Thrones. Both are dense, complicated, decades long stories about the truly dark and unforgiving nature of man, beast, and fate, in a fantasy setting tinged in blood and sadness. WWE 2K22

Both series also share a common trait in that they are decades-long stories with no end in sight, that struggle to be adapted into other mediums accurately due to the sheer volume of narrative content. For the 30 or so years that Berserk has been running, only two other video games based on it have been made, one of which never found life outside of Japan. With Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, Koei Tecmo finally spreads Berserk fever across the globe in the video game medium, and it’s a fever you definitely don’t want treated.Berserk and the Band of the Hawk, or Berserk Musou as it’s known in Japan, is one of Koei Tecmos many recent endeavours into making Dynasty Warriors style games out of established popular properties. If you played recent titles like Hyrule Warriors or Dragon Quest Heroes, you’re in for a similarly polished experience, with even more blood, and the most gripping story in a musou game to date.

These musou style games generally have you controlling a character in third person as you navigate large, maze-like maps to capture bases, claim territory zones, and slice up hundreds and thousands of enemies along the way in nearly half-hour long engagements. It can quickly get repetitive and mind-numbing, and thankfully, Berserk isn’t structured like that at all. Borrowing from the more recent entries I mentioned earlier, the Berserk game has missions that are much more dynamically and uniquely structured. No two missions or maps in the 20-hour campaign felt alike. One mission had me protecting my retreating comrades in a narrow forest, another had me escorting a civilian through a battle between two bandit factions, and many were simply one on one, palm-drenching boss fights. Rather than retro-fitting the narrative onto the same old “capture these bases before the enemy does” missions, the game delivered constantly fresh and unique maps and objectives, that not only fit the narrative perfectly, but kept the experience varied and fresh. A big drawing point for musou games is usually the large cast of playable characters. Even recent titles, while focusing more on quality than quantity, managed to have close to a couple dozen characters. Berserk Musou only boasts 8 unique characters. While it’s a small number, these characters are all absolutely unique. The game tasks you with a light attack button and a heavy attack button, along with a dodge/strafe button, and a special ability button. You can combine all of these into unique and varied combos, and each character has a completely different set of attacks. They also move differently, have different attack ranges and speeds, and have a variety of unique tools that make you look at the same encounters in totally different ways depending on who you control.

The cast is also somewhat expended by the inclusion of multiple versions of each character. As the story of Berserk progresses, characters change in a variety of ways that would also tie into their gameplay movesets, so having different versions of the characters as needed by the narrative arcs is a great way to not only expand the roster, but tell the story of the game.And story is so, so key in Berserk. In the 20-hour playtime of the main campaign, Berserk musou covers 30 volumes and all but one major story arc of the series. Naturally, it’s impossible to cover every word of content from those volumes in a video game, but it does an incredible job of delivering the major points of the story in a concise, well-paced manner. Much like adapting a book to film, you get the core adventure, but you will need to dip into the source material if you want to see every last piece of story.
