beat refle or Massage Freaks, for those in the know, is a what I like to call a “rail” rhythm game because the notes approach a target on “rails,” similar to IA/VT Colorful or Senran Kagura Bon Appetit (to an extent) if you’re familiar. Like those games, beat refle/Massage Freaks caters to a more casual crowd. There’s nothing as hardcore as something like Beatmania, but the difficulty can be a little… odd at times. More on that later. But out of everything I’ve played so far, I would say I’ve enjoyed the game overall, but my love for rhythm games can’t overlook the gripes I have with this game. It’s a case where I wished there was a mixed review option on steam. Lemme discuss positives first. (Note: I have the patch installed.) The presentation is great and UI design solid. The character designs are great and the art, supplemented with solid Live2d, is well-rounded (in more ways than one) making for a wonderful visual novel experience. Song unlock progression is semi-tied to visual novel segments (I think initiating certain optional events will reward you with a certain song, but unsure as of this writing) which might be a turn off for those who want to rush to the next song, but for a visual novel rhythm game hybrid, it’s not bad. In my opinion, the amount of erotic stimulation in the game is just right. Even with the patch the lewd bits are still covered by the magical, glorious white lights, but I think that’s fine. If anything, I think a lot of the stimulation comes from the… *ahem* voicework during the massage rhythm game. Also with the patch applied, the girl’s clothes will become slightly more “ruffled” as the rhythm game progresses, if you do well. It’s just enough stimulation to catch you lacking if you ever get distracted, but also just enough stimulation to just be good eye candy while you’re grinding for the full combo. NTR Mode, that is “Nice! Totally Relaxed!” Mode. It’s not that I particularly like what happens in NTR (don’t get me wrong, it’s still pretty stimulating) it’s just every time NTR mode starts and I see “NTR START!” flash on the screen, I always get a small laugh out of it. Unexpectedly, the music is actually quite good. I was genuinely surprised by how good the racks – I mean tracks are. So far, there are no vocal tracks, just instrumental tracks which I would say lean more toward an “ambient” vibe if I had to say. Most of them, anyway. (yay me and my no knowledge of music!).

It has nothing to do with any real person, group, or incident.

The game explains this by saying that the music playing is what the girl wants to hear or something like that, kind of like their personal BGM like in those videos where people ask passersby what they’re currently listening to. The genre of tracks is separated by which girl you’re massaging. All the characters have pretty nice racks- TRACKS. I mean tracks… athletic lady and hot debt collector lady having some of my favorites. But Landlady has the best music fight me. Now for the negatives. I don’t have any particular gripes with the visual novel elements of the game. These mostly pertain to the rhythm game part. My biggest complaint is about the “double” notes in the game in which you have to hit two buttons on opposite sides (directional pad and face buttons, WASD and IJKL) at the same time. There’s no “connector” that indicates the upcoming notes are a double. This is a problem because the rails in which the notes fly in are a little far apart. Because of that, a lot of the time I see notes coming, but a lot of the time I can’t tell if the next upcoming notes are consecutive notes on different sides spaced very close together, or a double. And the game makes use these patterns. A lot. (For the record I’m playing with the default game speed of 5, maybe playing around with it might help. MasterpieceVR

Because the game is a visual novel/rhythm game hybrid, every time you start up a song, you have to sit through a few lines of text before getting into the rhythm game segment. These lines of text serve to break up the rhythm game into segments. You can’t skip these lines of text even if you restart the song, so it can get pretty redundant, especially when you’re grinding for the full combo. I kind of hate the hit sound effect. I think one reviewer said it sounds like farts and I kind of agree. I could just turn it off, but I prefer my rhythm games with hit sound effects. This next point I’ll chalk up to me being just bad, but I’ll mention it just in case (and edit it out as needed). For a few songs (not the necessarily the hardest songs) I can’t figure out what sort of rhythm it wants me to follow. To my knowledge, all of the music in the game is original, so I’m playing most of the songs blind, relying a little more on sight-reading. The bit with doubles and closely spaced notes may also be a contributing factor. There are notes in the game in which you need to push the control stick in the appropriate direction (on controller, push the appropriate WASD or IJKL keys for keyboard). In the 3-4 hours I’ve played so far, I’ve only encountered those notes ONCE, and it was in the tutorial song.

This game is a work of fiction.

Maybe it’s just limited to Easy difficulty (I usually only play Hard, Normal)? If ever it pops up in Normal, Hard difficulty in a song that I haven’t unlocked yet, I’ll edit this out. Overall, beat refle/Massage Freaks was entertaining. The visual novel elements are great, the music tracks great, and the racks even greater. In terms of the the rhythm game elements, though, it’s solid but there are some flaws that could be improved. I think this is qureate’s first attempt at a rhythm game, and it’s not a bad first attempt, especially for a game that’s blending rhythm with the eroge genre. I’ve certainly had worse rhythm game experiences, and this one wasn’t one of them. If you’re thinking about playing the game more for its rhythm aspect, maybe steer clear. But at least listen to the music. I think I could justify my purchase if I used the (t)racks as my justification. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have another client booked and I have to Groove their Coasters, if ya know what I mean.

Music is good so that I want to know that there will be OST for purchased ? CG & motion during NTR mini-game is great too. but there is light censor on nipple and crotch. Story is fine too. But I’m not sure there are true ending for each girl, I just clear game for first round and there is not any solution that protagonist will be marry someone among these girls. Character voices are flawless. Rhythm play is rather hard. I need practice for a while along with adjust note speed for best timing to play smoothly. If you never play rhythm game before, you need much effort to clear this game. Bought and refunded. This is a troll game DO NOT BUY. Mass Effect Andromeda

You’re penalized for making a wrong move. So it doesn’t matter how good you do, if you mess up the very last beat of the level GAME OVER you lose. Beat mechanics are poorly drawn, animated and implemented. You’ll miss beats and be like ‘why?’ They make you ‘patch’ the game to unlock the ‘sexy’ content and sure it’ll unlock ‘mini games’ but it’s more of a marketing ruse than necessary step. You know cuz banned on Nintendo OMG must be naughty content. But no it’s lies. This is the type of game that says it has “nudity OR sexual content” in the description but the game has zero nudity. on a side note It’s psychotic the otherwise honest and good people at STEAM and VALVE allow so many game publishers to be purposefully misleading with their adult game market. For real STEAM, clean up that “nudity OR sexual content” nonsense
