APICO Free Download Unfitgirl APICO from Whitetorn Games and TNgineers is a chill and cozy beekeeping sim on Nintendo Switch. After leaving behind your boring job in the city, you return to your family home in Port APICO to reconnect with your beekeeping roots. The island was once abuzz – pun intended – with a wide variety of bee species, and it’s now up to you to rediscover them, as you gather resources while exploring each biome. You’ll be taking over the family business from grandpa and grandma, who are thrilled about your decision! The first step will be to create your character. You’ll be able to select its hair colors from a wide variety of options, select its skin color, overalls, and undershirt. Once you’re happy with the choices you’ve made, select your name and get ready to set sail towards APICO! The game will then procedurally generate and build the world you’ll be exploring, planting forests, releasing bees, and setting things up for you to have a good time. Just be patient, since it’s a process that will take a full minute! You’ll control your character with the left analog stick as you use your tools with the A button, changing between them with the L and R buttons. As you move near things, a tooltip will show up in the corner with more information on what said thing is. Press the A button so that you can interact with the highlighted item. Do this to collect some flowers, scare some birds away from the bees, and more! Press left on the D-Pad, and you’ll get to check the very useful guidebook that your grandpa was writing about the business. There are other books to review, which can be done by pressing up, down, and right on the D-Pad. The first tool you’ll gain access to is a sturdy axe that you can use to chop down some trees to gather wood and acorns. By using a workbench, you’ll be able to interact with it to work on the recipes you’ve unlocked for crafting other items. The first thing to build will be a sawbench, which is used for processing logs into planks, and planks into sticks. Just place the right resource on the sawbench and then move the left analog stick left and right so that you can cut logs into wooden planks, or cut wooden planks into wooden sticks, which are used for crafting tools… or, you know, to throw at birds to keep them from stealing your stuff! As for the tools you’ll use, these included the aforementioned axe that can be used to collect logs from trees and bushes, a pickaxe to mine stones from rocks, a spade to dig up seedlings and saplings, and hammer that is useful for picking up the crafting items, beehives and tiles you’ve placed down. You’re definitely going to need one of each, so be sure to collect the resources needed for crafting them right away!

Multiple biomes to explore

APICO is a beekeeping sim, and that means you’re going to need to find a lot of bees to succeed! The game will get you started with one freebie bee, but you’ll have to find the rest of them out in the wild. There are many species of bees to find in each area, so you should always be on high alert so that you can spot the flying bees, in order for you to follow them back to their hive. At first, APICO will require that you find a bee from the forest and a bee from the shores to get the whole beekeeping process rolling. Once you’ve managed to find a hive, you can approach it and open it up with the A button to take a look inside. After that, you can carefully take any of the bees inside with you. As mentioned before, you can even use the hammer to – gently – pick up a hive. And since you can’t have working bees without flowers, you should collect some flowers by approaching them and pressing the A button. After you have some flowers in your inventory, you should place them near hives so that bees can visit them. This will help the flowers visited by bees to start to spread and grow. You’ll later gain access to an extractor, which can be used to obtain flower seeds from hives based on what flowers your bees have visited. Who knows, you might even end up discovering some new hybrid flowers! Hybrid flowers will have an effect on nearby bees, affecting their productivity or even increasing the time they can work, allowing them to stay up at night. Arden’s Wake

APICO is a chill and cozy beekeeping sim on Nintendo’s console. There’s a lot to do in the game, and the good news is that you can take on this at your own pace. As you craft new tools and items, you’ll also work on making honey and other products related with the whole beekeeping side of things, all wrapped in a colorful presentation for the procedurally generated island you’ll visit. Visually, APICO looks similar to Stardew Valley thanks to its 8-bit design. I’ve never been one to gravitate toward 8-bit games – I want everything to look as detailed or stylized as possible – but I’m pleased with how well APICO’s pixel design lends to the overall charm of the game. The character creator only lets you customize hair color and cut as well as skin color, but it’s enough to let you emulate yourself or an imaginary character. The bees of APICO, of which there are 30 different species, have cute sprites which become immensely easier to see and identify when playing on a TV. When viewing them on the Switch screen alone it became a little difficult to discern which bee species was which, especially when the more colorful and unique bees hadn’t been discovered yet. You can buzz through the gameplay “tutorial” or take your time with it depending on how quickly you want to get through the beginning quests. It took me a while to complete because I experienced a bit of a learning curve with APICO

Completed the game but buzzing for more?

Learning the hard way that the best way to play is to multitask in order to yield the most resources for continuous use. It was a little overwhelming at first, but it did become easier to maneuver it all with practice. There’s definitely an order of operations to playing APICO which can be a bit frustrating to learn, especially if you’re someone who’s unfamiliar with the Minecraft mods the game is based on. The way you gather materials is fairly straightforward – cut the trees, collect the honeycomb, transfer or bottle liquids depending on what you need, etc. – but the key to success is consistency. Trying to juggle all of these activities doesn’t make the game as relaxing of an experience as APICO touts, but it’s still a nice way to escape from everyday life to help some digital bees. The biggest annoyance with the materials and items in APICO isn’t the fact that it’s a balancing act to collect them as necessary – it’s that there’s no way to split up material stacks. If you have a stack of 99 logs, you cannot choose a 44/45 split or pick up a single one – you have to move and use the whole lot. If you want to preserve half of it, you have to watch the machine dwindle the numbers down to about half and then pull the item from the machine, which means you spend your time staring at the machine work instead of multitasking on other activities. As you continue to do the different required material gathering, icons pop up above machines to show when the object is currently in use. However, unlike the bee items (hive, swarmer, etc.) that give you an icon to show the bees have concluded their cycle, the material gathering objects don’t give any indication when they’re done, which seems like a bit of an oversight. I forgot more than a few uncapped frames because the game didn’t tell me my machine was done, which in turn slowed down my production rate for other items. One thing APICO does get right is exploration, with a pretty expansive map to unearth and gather materials from. It can take a bit of time before you can access a basic boat, but once you do the world becomes a lot bigger with 4 different biomes teeming with new plants and bees to discover. APICO also accomplishes making Port APICO feel like something that’s existed long before the player visits and will continue to exist after they’re gone. Scattered across the world are NPCs players can interact with by talking, shopping, or selling items. Most NPCs have a fun bee pun name – Beetrix, cousin Barnabee, and Bobbee come to mind – but all NPCs have their pronouns listed. It’s a small gesture, but I loved the inclusivity of she, he, and they pronouns across all characters.

Bees are integral to our gameplay

It would have been nice to get to know the personality of the NPCs rather than most of them just congratulating you on your beekeeping accomplishments, but the lack of relationship building isn’t a detriment to APICO. Now to discuss the most important part of the game – the bees! As I mentioned before, the sprites are very cute but it takes a bit of practice to be able to determine which bee is which based on appearance. The science of breeding the bees plays a big role in the game – obviously – and you can test different bee’s Punnett square genetics with microscopes or predictors to make for the most successful cross-breeding possible. Once you breed and release enough of the “Lost” bee species back with the Rehabeelitator, you’ll successfully change the conservation status to “Thriving.” As a reward for your work and dedication, the local paper will print a story about your beekeeping exploits that you can view and keep. Even though they’re just digital bees, it warmed my heart to know I was making a difference in the landscape and helping bees return to their natural habitat.APICO will be an enjoyable experience if you’re the kind of gamer who likes simulation games that make you feel warm, fuzzy, and buzzy. The one overarching qualm I have with APICO is that it states it’s a relaxing game, but there are too many pertinent moving parts to make it a completely zen experience – even if the soundtrack is all lo-fi beats. If you’re looking for a fun digital beekeeping experience with some of the grind of other simulation games, APICO is the choice for you.Admittedly, when I first started APICO, I was a little underwhelmed. The pixelated art resembles Stardew Valley, with an 8-bit retro-style look. The character creator is basic, but so is Stardew Valley’s. You can change your hairstyle and change the color of your skin, hair, and clothes you’re wearing. Even the story setup is similar to Stardew Valley; instead of inheriting a farm from your grandfather, your grandfather leaves you the beekeeping business. But it wasn’t until I landed on the island that I felt the difference. In Stardew Valley, each NPC is brimming with personality; I didn’t feel that way with the NPCs I initially met in APICO. The island is sparsely populated, and most of the characters had one or two sentences to say to me. It may not be fair to compare the two, but considering how similar they are, it’s hard not to make those initial impressions. It’s not until you get into the beekeeping that things start to get really interesting. The game incorporates a crafting system, and your recipes are found in a book that you receive from your grandmother. In the book, you’ll be given different “quests” to craft, and once you do, you’ll receive a reward and another section of the book will open to you.

At first, this can be rather daunting, as there are a lot of quests (and a lot of text to read). However, the game does a nice job with building upon the previous tasks, and everything is in small bite-size pieces that ensures it’s not overwhelming. Fans of Minecraft and Stardew Valley will appreciate the simplicity of the crafting and building mechanics. Building is straightforward: you clear a plot of land and place your walls and tiles down to make your buildings. I found an old abandoned building and fixed it up to make my home. I eventually cleared some land to construct my workshops, both for woodworking and beekeeping. As you progress, not only will you unlock new recipes in your original book, but you’ll unlock additional books that give you quests around beekeeping and horticulture as well.Eventually, you’ll start learning to breed bees, and this is where the game really shines. You’ll learn the different dominant and recessive traits of bees and cross-breed them to discover extinct species. There are over thirty different species to discover. The discovery of the different types of bees acts like a leveling system too; the more bees you identify, the more the townspeople will interact with you and sell you more valuable wares.  The one criticism I have is that I occasionally spent a lot of time on my daily tasks instead of making progress in the game.
